Goodell Being 'Pushed' By Influential Owners to Keep Brady's Suspension at Four Games

Kraft and his escort are there for comic relief

What's hilarious is that we had a majority group of posters who continuously brought up Kraft's "awesome influence" in a fantasy scenario where he was somehow going to sway everyone else against Goodell.

What a difference a few months make!

Yes, people were stupid to think that the guy who single-handedly got the CBA done, negotiated an insane deal with the networks and runs the most successful franchise in NFL history had enough influence to potentially challenge a Commissioner that's bungled every controversy he's faced.

You used to seem so rational and respectful. What happened to you?

Absolutely correct sir, I never believed that whatever influence he had in financial matters where it is a partnership carried over to matters on the field where everyone is a competitor as many posters her did. Nor did I ever think he was willing or able to do anything to Goodell based on his words and deeds over the past eight years. However I never realized how little respect he commands among his peers and how pathetically subservient he is to the really influential owners like Rooney and Mara and even apparent nothings like Johnson, Bisciotti and Irsay.

I'm not sure what you're implying? At all?

I'm not being anything close to "disrespectful" in any form whatsoever. I'm pointing out the difference that a few months made for posters who went from thinking that Kraft was some sort of magical owner with enough influence to sway the other 31 owners (a complete joke of a thought that's been backed up by all of the owners supporting Goodell), to suddenly now stating that he's there for "comic relief."

If you don't see the irony in that, I'm not sure what to tell you.

EDIT: You're also greatly overestimating Kraft with your comments about him "single handedly" getting the CBA done (which was a clear victory to the owners and the league, for whatever that may be worth to you....). To be honest, you're probably also overestimating your idea that he runs the "most successful franchise in NFL history," although it's certainly up there and should be commended. The 49'ers had 16 years in a row of double digit wins, so there's certainly other comparable franchises. In the case of Bob Kraft, handing the reins over to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady was pretty much his instant victory :)

I think it is incredibly silly to assume anyone outside the NFL knows how that business works. While Im not happy with BK I also know based on my business experience that we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, if its anything like the businesses Ive been in it isn't as cut and dry as people want to make it out to be. I suspect its worse due to the way the NFL is constructed.

Still think Mr. Kraft could have stood by Brady and Im annoyed by the whole thing but wont crucify him for something I bet no one on this forum knows anything about.

Much like you, I didn't realize how pathetic he was in league circles and how little respect he commands.

Also, much like you, I never believed for a second that he was somehow going to sway any other owners--at least no more than maybe 1-2. The talk about having 24 votes to somehow oust Goodell were comical, at least in my opinion. It's been more than obvious that just about every owner is happy with Goodell, and it has nothing to do with freaking....player punishment. It's about money and the awesome concussion settlement that he negotiated. It's about the great CBA that he helped which was obviously beneficial to the owners. It's about increasing the global brand and making football a 24/7/365 event which is always in the limelight.

We keep hearing about the four owners who are pushing for the penalty to remain the same, but a much better question is---does anyone really believe that KRAFT has four owners on his side? I sure as hell don't. At least not at this point in time. Maybe that changes if/when more facts gets exposed in a courtroom, which is what we all hope.

I agree, nope he doesn't. But then again I dont believe any owner is all that powerful, it only takes a few owners to take another one down, I bet this happens all the time behind closed doors. eventually there will be another team the "other" owners go after. Maybe after Brady retires. Jealousy are very powerful.

Agreed. I'm all assuming that the majority of these owners truly believe that the Patriots are repeat offenders as it pertains to cheating. I find it unlikely that there are more than a handful who have actually taken the time to review the facts of what happened.

There may be some who think the story is overblown and that the punishment was too harsh, but it certainly seems as though there's been a vocal majority who have backed Goodell up strongly in this matter.

If all you defenders of Roger want to spew about Mr. Kraft.

You asked me who's side am I on.

I'm on the side of the Kraft family and the NE Patriots. I have chosen my side and stand firmly behind it.

The rest of you chicken$h!t$ have only taken the stance of hating our owner and say nothing disparaging about the most horrible commissioner in any sport of all-time.

At least I know where to plant my flag you bunch of goddamn turncoats.

For a bunch of rich guys, the owners strike me as remarkably uninformed.

And you guys call yourself "Patriot" fans. Ha!

When the going gets tough, JUMP SHIP!!!!

This is far from over turncoats.

Not really all that unusual in big business. I often ask how some folks become CEO's. LOL

What I find most pathetic of Kraft's actions is that remains solidly in Goodell's corner no matter what unfair and unprecedented punishment is inflicted on his team. It boggles my mind how such an allegedly shrewd businessman can be so easily duped by such a biased POS and 31 people who want more than anything to see his team fail and will do anything underhanded to make it happen.

Unless being a Patriots fan means mindlessly supporting everything done by anyone associated with the team, I don't understand your beef.

What forum have you been reading? Roger Goodell is universally despised on Patfans forums. There are a few who actually believe that Goodell is somehow responsible for the NFL's growth, but they are a tiny minority, and even most of them hate him. Heck, most fans of other teams hate him too. He's been booed at the last few drafts, and it is only getting worse.

Some of us are simply pointing out the fact that Goodell's job was never really in jeopardy over this particular issue. It's rather obvious that the owners feel that his strengths (as much as we dislike him) clearly outweigh his weaknesses.

Unfortunately, it's always been about the almighty dollar, and Goodell has actually done a good job of making them quite rich.

As far as disliking Bob Kraft--no one should be taking it to the extremes on either side. It's a very controversial subject and both sides have a solid argument. Personally, I'm grateful for Kraft's accomplishments as our owner, but the way he folded was pathetic just the same. I've been very fair in my comments re: Kraft.

Take off the blinders. Your man Kraft has already said the League is more important than his team and has given up. Unlike him we think the team is more important than the League. Apparently everybody but you can figure out who are the League fans and who are the Pats fans.

4 straight red X disagrees "Quantam Mechanic".

Step up and be heard.

You're blinded by you're hatred. We just won a SB in Feb.

The Patriots win, you hate. Are you a frequent poster on PFT?
