STRAHAN SAYS HE’S RETIRING
Posted by Josh Alper on June 9, 2008, 11:43 a.m. EDT
Michael Strahan has told Jay Glazer of Fox that he’s retiring according to a report on their website this morning.
“It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title,” the team’s all-time sack leader said from California. “It’s time. I’m done.”
Strahan told Glazer that he made up his mind last week but wanted to take a few extra days to guarantee that he didn’t change his mind. Strahan retires with 141.5 career sacks, the single-season record of 22.5 and a sure ticket to Canton. The Giants will fill his spot in the lineup with Renaldo Wynn and Justin Tuck.
The question now becomes if Strahan will join Glazer as a member of the Fox football crew or if he’s snapped up by one of the other networks. He’s almost certainly going to move in that direction. He’s been an affable, intelligent contributor to shows in past offseasons or when the Giants had been eliminated from the playoffs and is sure to attract a lot of interest.
