Rusillo thinks the draft was bad in his opinion. Felger is non commital but just harps on the kicker selection and pats not drafting a linebacker or manny lawson. no talk about the tight ends and offensive lineman and their grades.mcsully said:Are you serious that they are saying that makes the draft bad? Or are you paraphrasing? So if they didn't draft a kicker that would be okay?

The budget for college scouting is approximately $4 million. The scouts, directors, Pioli, Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff spend, literally, THOUSANDS of hours reviewing tape, interviewing not just the players but their coaches, etc., in connection with establishing the final board.
Belichick has spent 30 years, consecutive, coaching in the NFL, and his ability to break down tape is legendary. He has won 3 SBs in the last 5 years, and is the only coach in NFL history to win 3 in 4 years.
Felger and Rusillo don't like the draft.
All in all, I don't find it difficult to give the benefit of the doubt to the first group of guys over Felger and Rusillo...

MoLewisrocks said:Felger's problem is two fold. First, he is a bright guy who was more open to BB than the hack peers he was surrounded with. He got it, and preached it. Like some whining in threads here about WTF happened to my defense wins championships mantra, he feels a tad betrayed by BB today because BB didn't draft to make them look smart. Obviously this means somebody isn't as smart as they thought they were - must be the HOF HC with all the rings.
Second, he is desperately trying to front a sports talk show in a market dominated by WEEI for almost a decade now. He is preaching for the the hearts and minds of the idiot talk show callers demographic. Ordway, an otherwise intelligent guy, created the model philosophy that controversey and contrarianism and screaming insults fuels ratings. A smattering of actual intelligent sports is all well and good, but too much of that and you lose the bulk of the 18-39 know it all male sports demographic who truly enjoy a good pissing contest. Felger is also trying to build his own little media empire (print, radio, TV personality) perhaps to out earn the little news anchor woman who likely out earned him 5 fold when they first wed. In the process he is becomming increasingly disconnected in Foxboro.
And I guess you could add to the dilema ESPN Boston hasn't been able to consistently wrap up much on air talent to guest host, appear or fill in for Michael the Mogul. Rusillo is a basketball bust from the last half-baked attempt to compete with WEEI...
