Im willing to bet that early in the season the offence will be much more conservative then it has been over the past two seasons. My main reasoning is I think the Pats are going to want to limit injury risk to Brady early on. As the season goes on I expect things to open up; in the mean time, being conservative early on should work well as Maroney shouldn't be hurt yet.

SO it's okay if Brady gets hurt in week 8, but not in week 2?

Even if that made sense, you can't play football calling plays so your QB doesn't get hurt. Even Herm knows the resason why you play.

Look, you take one game at a time. In the NFL, it's any given sunday. On any sunday, any team can beat any team. You don't just "take it easy" one week in the hope of babying someone back. All it takes is a couple of plays to completely change a game. And in a sixteen game season, every game counts!

I thought they were going to be conservative last season and I was shocked to see Brady with 4 and 5 wide to start the game against KC.

i think its 100% accurate to think our offense will be more conservative early on in the season. brady is coming off major knee surgery. if we limit his exposure to risk on his knee early on in the season, the strength will build up week by week, as will his confidence in stepping into his throws. to think we will open up run and gun, well, it might happen. however, i think we will try to make sure our franchise player is safe and comfortable before we go crazy.

to call the original poster an idiot, well, just shows that you are an idiot. he gave good insight, which i believe to be accurate. only an imbecile would ridicule this post the way some of you have

More than once I have disagreed with billdog's opinions, but I think he may be correct here. History has shown that an injury such as Brady's can take more than twelve months for full recovery. It stands to reason that the Pats would rely a bit more on the run early; besides giving Brady more time to gain strength in his knee, they have also added Fred Taylor.

Perhaps this is a bad analogy, but the Pats were more conservative early last year too, when Cassel got his legs under him (figuratively); the offense could do the same while Brady literally gets his legs strengthened under him.

Assuming he has a pre-season under his belt, I see absolutely no reason to take it easy.

First off, we don't have a cake schedule anymore. We will be playing just as much to our strenghts as the opponents weakness. If the opponents weakness is pass defense, I honestly don't see BB babying Brady in.

Obviously, they won't be calling any QB scrambles. But I honestly just don't think this "Babying" in thing happens in the NFL. You play to win the game. And while they might take it easy on brady's first few series, I don't see them easing Brady into the offense for more than that unless our run game proves extremely fruitful.

Not to pull a Herm here, but you play to win the game. If winning the game means Brady in a shotgun with 4 WR, then I doubt BB would do anything else.

    #11 Jersey

I would think that either Brady will be ready to play or he won't. It wouldn't be worth limiting the whole offense because of him. IMO if Brady needs to be babied back, he should just sit and give O'Connell time to explore the offense. If Brady plays, there's no way he's going to hold anything back. HE of all people knows that you play the game to win.

I agree with what your saying, dont rush brady, i was just thinking if i were calling the plays i would run more then usual so brady could baby his knee back into game play

i would expect Brady to get more playing time in preseason. should be ready to go opening game. might depend on how the off line is doing...but prob they will be tryiing to mix it up more.

BB strives for balance on O unless the gameplan calls for somthing differet (06vs the Vikings). I don't think BB would ever let an injury shape his playcalling.

1st game 1st play, 3 wide, out of the shotgun. Brady to Welker for 7 yards.

Maybe the bonehead comment has to do with the the OP spelling offense as offence twice in one post........not to mention saying it will be more conservative then, instead of than.....I know this is a messageboard and not school, but offense and defense are pretty much the basic terms in football.

I thought of that after I posted, and apologize if that is case. However, I think Mike the Brit is the only chap on that side of pond, who follows the more violent version. I may be a little cranky with the time change....although one less hour until the draft/season starts.....wooohoooooooooooooooooo
