The Pats ARE lacking depth at QB, RB and LB. And to a lesser extent CB.
Hmm.. though I don't know of another team that has depth at QB. But, definitely concerns at RB and LB. Especially with Morris already gone for the year. And at LB, the Pats are short already with Alexander on the bench and Lua on the IR. Granted, they'd need 2 injuries to a group of Seau, Bruschi, Vrabel, Colvin, and Thomas.
Anyways.. as you've mentioned, Emmitt is a blowhard, but there is some truth to his spewings.

the jackson response on the humble pie thing shows his clear hatred for the team.
In 2003, the New England Patriots released popular safety Lawyer Milloy, who signed with the Buffalo Bills and helped his new team shutout New England on opening weekend, 31-0. On an episode of NFL Countdown, Jackson claimed that the Patriots were not behind head coach Bill Belichick: "Let me say this clearly: they hate their coach." His provocative claim drew fervent denials from the Patriots locker room. The Patriots recovered from the Buffalo blowout in stunning fashion, finishing the regular season at a league-best 14-2, and going on to defeat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. When Jackson went to congratulate Belichick after the game, the Patriot coach barked, "F--- you."
The anecdote about Tom Jackson.
Jackson had the "they hate their coach" line. When BB called him on it, Jackson admitted he hadn't talked to anyone on the team and had no basis for it. BB asked him to retract it. Jackson refused to do so.
After the Super Bowl, Jackson went up and offered his congratulations to BB and held his hand out to shake hands. BB just said "f*ck you, Tom" and walked away.
Then Emmit Smith said that the Pats were great and one of the best teams he has ever 'seen', but unlike his '92-'93 Cowboys, the Pats just do not have the depth.
