Chad Jackson as returner

In the 2nd half Welker returned punts IIRC.

that was 1 of those inside the 10 punts that we always use faulk/brown or now...welker for

those are basically the guys u know will catch it and its usually a fair catch situation . Welker was back there for 1, Jackson 2.

I think it is interesting and a good idea that the Pats seem to have a cycle of returners, Hobbs-Welker-Jackson. Are they trying to switch it up so that other teams won't know which returner to prepare for?

i dont think it matters. i think blocking is great for us as we've seen Maroney, Hobbs, Jackson, Welker, Andrews, Brown, Faulk all have success

That he was used on punts was the most interesting thing, as it suggests they want him on the gameday 45, and are looking for ways to make that possible. Having a 6th receiver active (or even 7th with Troy) becomes more palatable when he is also filling other roles.

I could be wrong, but I think that was simply a function of Welker getting those inside-the-10 (or even 20) punts returns (Remix references above). The "high leverage" returns, you might say.

no way would BB put a guy who just started returning inside 10 to call a fair catch if needed. you put your trusted/reliable veterans and feel more confident they wont make a mistake. Even if we had Hester..i think the situation would be similar knowing your really not gonna get return yards with a high kick inside 20

Putting CJ out there was a real head-scratcher for me. Sure I'm glad to see us getting some production out of CJ, but why as a returner, and why in against a good team like the Steelers?

Where's the upside? It's not like we were getting bad production out of our other returners--Welker and Hobbs have been great, IMO. It's not CJ to improve on those guys any. And there is a serious downside--case in point the booted punt. After we went up by 2 scores a turnover was the only thing that could have made the game close again.

I really don't know what BB was thinking here.

My guess is that BB wants Welker and Hobbs to focus on their main jobs, and that CJ has too much potential as a return specialist to waste. CJ is fast but like Moss, he's a long-strider and it takes him a bit to work up a head of steam. Returning a kickoff is where he got his knee injury last year, let's hope he can stay healthy.

I think it's obvious that BB hopes Jackson can save some hits on Hobbs and Welker.

How many tries Jackson gets before BB reverts to the others remains to be seen.

What I don't understand is why Andrews isn't tried more at KR. Coming out of college he was supposed to be an excellent KR, and he's more expendable than most in the rest of the game. Is there something he just keeps doing wrong in practice/preseason when he is tried out there?

CJ returning KOs/Ps is a good thing. The kid is big/fast/hasn't fumbled ("yet").
Better him getting dinged on a run back than Wess or Ellis.

The Andrews question continues to puzzle me, too.

The question that really puzzles me, though, is ...
how come both coverage and return s/ts are
so much better this year
than any season i remember?
