Cap Implications of Keeping Brady AND Garoppolo

If Jimmy is as good as people think he is then he has no reason to sign anything long term and stay in New England and backup Tom Brady for any length of time.

One of them has to and will be gone by the end of the 2018 season.

New England isn't the only place where you can start and win games in the NFL.

My prediction would be one of these men are a niner next season

If Jimmy is as good as people think he is

If he were as good as folks here think, then SOME team would have given a 1st rounder and signed him to a long-term contract.

JAG isn't anywhere near as good a prospect as folks here think. He might be solid starter; he might even be a future all-pro. Or he might be a mediocre starter, or perennial backup.

Right. But what if he just WANTS to play here?
and replace Brady after 1-3 seasons

If this were the case, he'd sign a 5 year deal

Maybe. But maybe he can make more being franchised. Maybe Brady's retirement date is enough of an unknown that JG would rather take it year by year. Maybe he'd be good wth waiting 3 years to start in NE over somewhere else, but not be ok with waiting 5 years.

The point is... We fans have quite literally NO idea what those guys - Brady, Garoppolo, Belichick, Kraft - are thinking about this. And yet some folks are speaking in such absolutes as if they had any inside knowledge.

At the end of the day, because practically every possible opinion has been shared here, someone is going to turn out to be right and a lot of people are going to turn out to be wrong. But it's not because the guy who was right had any real knowledge of the situation.

As you have said, plenty of opinions have been voiced (again, and again, and again) and some will be right and others will be wrong. Many of these opinions have been stated like they are facts, but IMHO we have only one ironclad fact on the subject: contrary to the predictions of many, JG is still a Patriot.

That may not be totally accurate. According to many reports, at least one team did offer a 1st-round pick (and potentially more) for him.

But it takes two to tango, and BB didn't bite.

I don't think Jimmy's value is decided by what other teams would offer, and it doesn't mean anything that a team was willing to give up a high draft pick or two for him. But it's inaccurate to suggest that his value isn't that high because nobody made a high offer, when reports indicate it did happen.
