Bill Belichick Is Done With Microsoft Tablets

Although I continue to use windows 7 on a desktop, and didn't enjoy the user experience of windows 8, I still find bashing windows to be a little too fashionable among the hipsters, which prevents me from getting onboard with it.

It must have been that constant "Update to Windows 10, Free!" pop up!
AAARRGGHH!
I tried to avoid that damn update for weeks, but the idiots at Microsoft finally just took over my computer one night and forced the damn "upgrade" on me...nothing's worked since.

If only the league wasn't so impoverished maybe they could have state-of-the-art tech with lots of redundancy to avoid these kind of issues. When's the next bake sale?

Per PFT, Microsoft paid $400 million to NFL to use surface tablets. I am glad BB is sticking it to the league. He is THE most recognized coach in the NFL. This is bad for NFL and Microsoft.
I wonder how much of that $400 million found its way into the pockets of the fools at 345 Park?

I wonder if there will be NFL sanctions. Microsoft can't be happy. But given Belichick's description of the chain of custody, it's not surprising the system's unreliable.

Linux is already running the corporate world behind the scenes. You may not notice it, because they don't really need it to be running on their employees' systems, but their servers are likely running on Linux. There was a study not too long ago that revealed that about 90% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Linux in some way.

A lot of big trading firms, including the one where I work, that push an obscene amount of money, use Linux for their trading systems.

i'm aware of that, the issue is that's what It people are doing. Are you really expecting jackie in accounting to know linux? what about bob in customer service.

Also most niche software isn't linux ready,
Linux, plus Thunderbird with the Exchange add-on, plus Open or Libre Office configured to always save as MS Office - works for a very large percentage of the average office worker. Where it falls is web apps that rely on .Net. However, terminal servers can fill that role (rather that trying to get IE to run under WINE).

and all those custom apps that companies need. but yeah sure, the only thing corporations use is office and email.

I'm not a hipster, but Windows 8 was atrocious. I stayed with 7 as long as I could. However, I've recently been forced into Windows 10, which I like. Not quite as good as 7, but nowhere near the disaster 8 was.

Windows 8 and Windows Me were my only bad experiences.

Most large companies are running virtual machines on top of Unix, so yeah, everything is running on Unix at the lowest level.

Windows has sucked for most of its history, and bashing it has sure as hell not been limited to hipsters.

Now I understand why he threw a tablet during that Bills game.
I knew that was the problem. He doesn't usually lose it over the play on the field that often.

I'm still an OS/2 warp kinda guy. Long live IBM ;-)

FWIW. All of my Win10 boxes work great and are rock solid stable, including my wife's SP tab. They all network together beautifully. The only issues I ever have are connectivity issues and that was largely due to wireless woes. Wired, no problems.

This is a big FU to the league. I would be surprised if it goes unnoticed. Could be a league memo coming out any day now.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. It was very out of character. I should have put it together but I was busy mourning the loss of three quarterbacks I guess.

Computers suck. I'm glad I'm a lowly electrician. I just need my computer to get on Patfans. But they are a pain in the @55. I now, only buy the cheapest POS I can find, and replace it every year. That would drive crazy, dealing with that on a daily basis

If you watched less porn you wouldn't need to replace it every year...;)

Should have done manual updates. Microsoft installs the telemetry software on Win 7 and 8 even if you refuse upgrade.

Wow, so much conjecture here. Blaming the device when you do not even know the root problem. The problem is most likely NOT the hardware. The interface and communication between devices is the problem and likely there may be network and possible software issues as well. Heck if the headsets cannot work, why would you expect tablets to work better?

Belichick wants the information at his finger tips and instantaneous. The interface is probably similar to EMR's in that there is a wealth of information, but it is not organized well, and not easy to access. No different than a senior doctor preferring paper charts.

From Mike Reiss -

Microsoft has released the following statement after Bill Belichick's remarks Tuesday on giving up on usage sideline tablet: "We respect Coach Belichick's decision, but stand behind the reliability of Surface. We continue to receive positive feedback on having Surface devices on the sidelines from coaches, players and team personnel across the league. In the instances where sideline issues are reported in NFL games, we work closely with the NFL to quickly address and resolve."
