Out of all the FA Aquisitions this year,at this time only two players appear to have been worthy of a look and are the 2 best pickups this year - Carter and Waters.

Which of these two do you think has been a better addition to the team?...only ONE please.

Ocho and Haynesworth have been jokes for the most part so left are Carter and Waters ....Anderson and Ellis have not done quite enough IMO so are not worthy of a choice slot.

IMO You go with the player that helps the most important member of the team...that most important guy is Brady ...so my answer is Waters.

Waters has been more consistent and is arguably one of the best RGs in the game this year, but Carter plays a position where it is so hard to find an impact guy and he has been disruptive quite a bit in the backfield in recent weeks.

I would still go with Waters for now. Carter has the potential though to be the best free agent pick up in the league if Sunday was a preview of the rest of the season. I don't expect 4.5 sacks a game, but constant pressuring the QB.

I think Anderson has been a very good pick up too. He was a veteran minimum addition. He is effective in the pass rush. That is what you want out of a veteran minimum guy and anything more is a bonus.

If Carter hits double digit sacks he is heading to Hawaii as well

Against a porous KC line,he may hit 11 or 12 monday night

    Andre Carter.

We needed pass rush, and we got it.

    I voted Waters

you should have phrased the Q better than what it shows.

oh and where is the Tie button? They both are excellent in their own respects.

    Mark Anderson.

That's not a knock against Carter or Waters. Both are looking Pro Bowl worthy.

But it really isn't a coincidence, IMO, that Carter has his best game upon Anderson making his first start. Anderson was consistently bursting off the line quicker than anyone. As a result, the Jets consistently kept a TE and a RB on Anderson's side. Anderson's initial pressure resulted in, I believe, two of Carter's sacks.

Having a legit pass rush tandem is so important. The Patriots might just have it. If so, look for Carter to continue to make an impact.

I voted Carter, but the discrepancy is really nil. He gets the edge only because he is relied on more heavily to influence the defensive performance (his game vs. NY was amazing and he had a FG-forcing sack vs. Dallas...just to name some examples) while Waters benefits from being part of a very talented unit which ultimately relies on Brady's execution more than anything.

Ask me this same question tomorrow and I could answer the opposite. They are that close.

    Regards,
    Chris

Who cares? They've both been great, and they're not competing for anything.

Sorry, how can anyone claim a guy who didn't get a start until week 10 because there was a big hole in his game (still is at stopping the run), over two guys who started from day 1 and had big impacts all season.

Anderson has been a very good pickup, but not even close to the other two.

Carter leads the AFC in sacks (Woodley has 9 too but played in 1 more game), draws holding calls, constantly is pressuring, and never gives up. He made probowl overrated Dbrick look like a turnstile.

I say him, he's playing like an elite pass rusher, and he looks like a physical freak.

    Let's see now.

If Waters weren't here, Wendell would get his reps.

If Carter weren't here, Cunningham would get his reps.

My choice is that the acquisition of Carter was more important.

waters.....because where would this team be with wendell in that spot?

the offense would be worse off and the offense needs to be as good as possible

Oops, still doesn't undermine Carter so far. Woodley plays with James Harrison as well.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but I feel like there is an increasing amount of 'revisionist history' regarding Carter because of the Sunday Night game. As if everyone is hopping on the bandwagon -- and acting as if they were there all along -- without giving any real credit to Anderson, whose placement in the line up is as important as anything in regards to the pass rush.

Over the first 8 games (w/o Anderson as a starter) -- Carter posted 4.5 sacks. Not bad by any means. But Anderson, with only one quarter of the reps, managed to do the same thing. So is that a good thing? Sadly, no. Because when separated, our pass rush was flat out bad. That's not a criticism of either player; it simply takes more than one. So let's call a spade a spade; the pass rush has been lacking. Big time. Same way it was in 2010. Or 2009 (when TBC posted double-digit sack numbers). That's why this D was ranked so low -- even prior to all the injuries.

Yet, what happened when you put both of them together? Even with the worst backfield we've fielded all year, suddenly the D starts making plays. Both players are more effective as a result. I don't think it's a coincidence or a one game thing. Even Wilfork was getting better penetration. So, I don't think you can really separate one from another. It's a pass rushing tandem. If they keep it up that type of pressure, there is simply no way the Patriots will have the NFL's worst pass D. No way. If separated? Yeah, it'll suck; as it did for the first 8 weeks.

Carter is the obvious sexy pick because of sacks, but knowledgable football fans would pick Waters. Waters has been the most conistent player on a very good offensive line, even though he wasn't signed until after the season started. Sure, Carter had a great game, and has had a pretty good year, but at this point in the season the answer is obvious. Waters.

Why rank them if there's no damn reason to. Praise them both to the hilt and let this who's best crap ride. Let's emphasize their worth not their superiority. That's the way, I'm sure, both would prefer it.

    I have a feeling it's going to go like this;

First half of the season - Brian Waters
Second half of the season - Andre Carter

Waters has been very very good this season.
