I would give pats edge on DL and SD the edge on CBs
Safeties and LBs pats have edge of veteran-knowledgeable guys - SD has edge of younger more athletic guys.
So it is a bit of a toss-up. For consistency over the 16 game season you have to give it to the Pats. If you just look trend-wise at Nov-Jan you could make an argument for SD.
Trouble is all that they didnt face quality opposition argument starts to get into chicken or egg (were they bad teams or did they get help to look bad when they got beat by SD)
I think they are both quality D; Edge goes to Pats in the end cause we have BB and they dont. He makes average guys play within a system and be superior to better athletes.
I would say NE has better players, but most of them are past their primes, while many of the Charger players are still entering theirs.

list, plz.
and if your d is so great why couldn't you hold anyone down this year?
pats were among the league leaders in pts allowed and yds allowed.
chargers....not so much.

Maybe you should fact check first?
Points allowed Patriots: 274, there were three teams with lower numbers and not by much. San Diego wasn't one of them.
no ******* kidding.
maybe you should read post first.
Let's see
Seymour
Wilfork
Warren
Adalius
Asante
Ellis Hobbs
Sanders
are all past their prime 7 of our 11 starters on D. Because Vrabel 32, Harrison 34, Bruschi 34, Seau 38 are older, we are way over our prime and only finished with a #4 ranked D in PA
We're dooomed against the vaunted Chargers
Thomas is 30. That makes 5 of the 11 starters 30 or older.
I was not saying the Patriot defense was bad. They are one of the top 5 in the league. Statistically, the Chargers are not. Both teams played a tough schedule. The Chargers gave up a lot of yards in the first half of the year and kind of jelled as the year went on. Counting last weeks win at Indy, they have 51 take aways. That is the one area where they dominate the NFL. They have playmakers.
McRee is 30. Hart is 30. They are the weak links on defense. One or both will be gone next year and Weddle will be starting.
Jamal Williams is 31.
The four linebackers, Olshansky and Castillo, Cromartie and Jammer are all getting better each year.
They jelled having played crappy teams in the second half. just look at your schedule.
Pats have had lowest TO in the NFL this year. Brady threw 50 TD's and 8 ints all year in a pass oriented offense. So, what's your point ?
Last I checked age has nothing with winning football games.
Finally, we destroyed your team 38-14, and don't bring the excuse it was "early" in the season. Your QB is a nutjob and prone to throwing INT's as he did against Pats.
In a championship game I would take Brady over Rivers every time.
Pats D ranked #4 in PA.....nuff said
In part because the Pats O doesn't give up the ball with 3 and outs.
