Better Defense...Pats or Chargers?

is this a joke post?

I would give pats edge on DL and SD the edge on CBs

Safeties and LBs pats have edge of veteran-knowledgeable guys - SD has edge of younger more athletic guys.

So it is a bit of a toss-up. For consistency over the 16 game season you have to give it to the Pats. If you just look trend-wise at Nov-Jan you could make an argument for SD.

Trouble is all that they didnt face quality opposition argument starts to get into chicken or egg (were they bad teams or did they get help to look bad when they got beat by SD)

I think they are both quality D; Edge goes to Pats in the end cause we have BB and they dont. He makes average guys play within a system and be superior to better athletes.

Pats D ranked #4 in PA.....nuff said

The Patriots D is very good, but I think with the team having such an overwhelmingly good offense, they get overlooked.

I am a Charger fan so I could say that two of our rejects are actually starting for you guys, but that would not be entirely fair. I was upset when Rodney Harrison left. He had a lot left in the tank and is good locker room guy. The only thing I don't miss is the high number of dumb late hit penatlies he would get. I was glad to see Seau go. He was a liabilty against the run. He would make one or two highlight hits every game, but his tackles were way down and he was always shooting a gap and overrunning plays and chasing running backs from behind. I like Wilhelm and Cooper (16 tackles last week) over Seau.

I would say NE has better players, but most of them are past their primes, while many of the Charger players are still entering theirs.

Slight edge to SD.

I suppose when teams have players past their primes, that's when they go 17-0, yea I forgot that little tidbit:rolleyes:

list, plz.

and if your d is so great why couldn't you hold anyone down this year?
pats were among the league leaders in pts allowed and yds allowed.
chargers....not so much.

Let's see
Seymour
Wilfork
Warren
Adalius
Asante
Ellis Hobbs
Sanders

are all past their prime 7 of our 11 starters on D. Because Vrabel 32, Harrison 34, Bruschi 34, Seau 38 are older, we are way over our prime and only finished with a #4 ranked D in PA

We're dooomed against the vaunted Chargers

Maybe you should fact check first?
Points allowed Patriots: 274, there were three teams with lower numbers and not by much. San Diego wasn't one of them.

Thomas is 30. That makes 5 of the 11 starters 30 or older.

I was not saying the Patriot defense was bad. They are one of the top 5 in the league. Statistically, the Chargers are not. Both teams played a tough schedule. The Chargers gave up a lot of yards in the first half of the year and kind of jelled as the year went on. Counting last weeks win at Indy, they have 51 take aways. That is the one area where they dominate the NFL. They have playmakers.

McRee is 30. Hart is 30. They are the weak links on defense. One or both will be gone next year and Weddle will be starting.

Jamal Williams is 31.

The four linebackers, Olshansky and Castillo, Cromartie and Jammer are all getting better each year.

I'll stick with what is quantitative. NE has the better stats, across the board. They are the better defense.

They jelled having played crappy teams in the second half. just look at your schedule.

Pats have had lowest TO in the NFL this year. Brady threw 50 TD's and 8 ints all year in a pass oriented offense. So, what's your point ?

Last I checked age has nothing with winning football games.

Finally, we destroyed your team 38-14, and don't bring the excuse it was "early" in the season. Your QB is a nutjob and prone to throwing INT's as he did against Pats.

In a championship game I would take Brady over Rivers every time.

Who cares if we jelled against bad teams or not. We have dominated really since the Vikings game. The D wasnt bad against Jax.

Pats have lowest TO in the NFL, chargers have created the most TOs. we did intercept Brady once in this game and I believe 3 times in the playoff game last year.

Age doesnt have anything to do with right now, you are correct.

You did destroy our team. We were a struggling team then, 2 weeks later we lost to KC at home to hit rock bottom. We are 12-2 since.

Ummm, yeah who wouldnt take brady over Rivers in any game?

the chargers were right behind the patriots in points allowed, they were 5th in the league with 284 points. thats 17.8 points per game to the patriots 17.1.

i think the defenses were pretty close judging by how they did in the regular season. the chargers give up a lot of yards but that evens out with the help of a great special teams.

one thing is for sure, we know who has had the better offense, the defense is pretty close IMO.

In part because the Pats O doesn't give up the ball with 3 and outs.

another ******ed post. How good was that Rams D on those greastest show on earth teams ? Their hig octane O surely did not help their D. Your 80's super SD charger or the Miami Dolphin D were both ****ty despite high octane O.

Clueless posting, typical of a Dolt

Schemes - Pats
Talent - Chargers
Intelligence - Pats
Linebackers - Chargers
Secondary - slight edge to Chargers
Line - even
experience - Pats
facial hair - Pats
turnovers - Chargers

winner - slight edge to the Chargers, which against the Pats offense is rendered moot. In other words:

Pats defense v. Chargers offense is better that Chargers defense v. Pats offense.
