Are there any bruising backs out there to trade for?

Chris Ivory is a beast he is staying healthy and is making New Orleans look like morons for trading this beast. Best roster move the Jets had made in years.

The Jets are 1-6. Apparently a big bruising back is not the end all and be all...

The Pats wouldn't have given Jim Brown enough touches last night. It was obvious that their game plan was to attack one of the league's worst secondaries, not beat their head against the wall trying to run against one of the league's better d-lines.

Gray looked solid in limited carries last night. The Patriots pretty clearly didn't want to run the ball at all on this game--which kinda makes sense against this particular Jets D, although it's what leads to stuff like 20 minute TOP--but I think we'll see more of what he's capable of against Chicago (suspect run D) and Denver (need to win TOP in that game).

I think Gray will be just fine. Wouldve been nice to still have Ridley, but Gray is more than capable of fulfilling the straight-ahead-runner role well. And once we have Stork and Connolly back and can get Wendell back over to Guard, the run game should be pretty good, especially if Develin is used more frequently to lead the way or even given a few carries himself.

It's not quite Earth Wind & Fire, but Gray, Vereen & White/Bolden can be a very effective run corps IMO. No need to cough up any assets to bring in anyone else.

I'd like to see what we have in Gray also, if a trade is being made, make it a MLB thumper who can also cover the occasional crossing or flat route.

Agreed. If the Pats decide that it's worth trading some draft capital to get a player that they need, I think/hope that they'd target MLB rather than RB. LB is just a much greater need at this point - last night was kind of a perfect storm that made the run defense look worse than it is, but it did expose that we're vulnerable to interior runs. Getting Siliga back (hopefully) in a few weeks will help there, and I wouldn't mind seeing Beauharnais brought back once the Pats are able to re-sign him off of Washington's PS, but maybe a trade is in the cards as well.

Did anyone catch how many snaps (if any) Gray was in on passing downs last night? I think that's going to be a strong indicator of how he can be used in this offense. If the Pats don't trust him in pass protection--and it's common not to trust rookies there--then they may not be willing to have him in on passing downs. That would limit his utility quite a bit, since his presence on the field would basically be declaring that they're running. If they get comfortable with him on passing downs, though, then I'm intrigued. Granted he only carried the ball a couple of times last night, but he looked strong and decisive when he did. He's probably no world-beater, and he will be a significant step down from Ridley, but he runs the way we need.

Running back Jonas Gray only was on for 12 snaps and totaled just three carries, but that doesn’t mean he was not a factor. Maybe the most encouraging play for him came on Julian Edelman ’s 16-yard catch on the right sideline (7:52). It’s the type of play that tells me has a chance to succeed here because he picked up the correct defender after play-action, making a nice block on blitzing linebacker David Harris. That is critical for any running back in this system.

Rather than a RB, I want a trade (before deadline) for a ILB or DT. We need better Run D.
