Thanks Miguel....any thoughts on these?? Any standout as odd different?? Speaking of what MIGHT be done..given how SO MANY starters are up in 10...might the team do extensions for some of those players this year and next? (Esp with so few next year and a ton the year after..) Thoughts? (Thinking Wilfork, Vrabel, Hobbs, Mankins. Light..)

Don't forget the Pats should add 15-20 rookies over the next two years (I'm not saying they'll all stick, merely that they all have the potential to do so). . . .

Before the Pats start thinking extensions, they also need a

couple of cornerbacks and a couple of linebackers besides

    the draft picks.

If you're saying they need to sign another couple of CB's and another couple of LB's via free agency before the draft, then I disagree. they could sign one more free agent LB, like Victor Hobson, or Clark Haggans, but they don't need to sign two LB's pre-draft. They can draft a very good OLB in the draft, and there are some good 3-4 ILB's in this draft too.

Some potential depth charts they could have at LB post free agency and the draft:
    OLB
    1)Vrabel
    2)AD
    3)Gholston/Groves **
    4)Woods

    ILB
    1)Bruschi
    2)Hobson *
3)AD (hybrid who plays both positions)
    4)Goff **
    5)Alexander
    6)Slaughter
    7)Izzo

    * Potential free agent signing
    ** Potential draft pick

I could see them bringing Chad Scott or Ty Law back, but they don't need to sign both. There is also going to be some very talented CB's who could fit their system in the draft. Antoine Cason and others as first round options, Chevis Jackson, and others as options later in the draft.

I really don't think you're going to see them sign that many more free agents before the draft, maybe 4 max (including a WR on offense)

No kidding...as well as taking care of the situations this year..THOSE are all a given..I was asking more of opinions on extensions this year and next year..given the situation... T
The situation is as it stands now is in 09..only 9 UFAs..the ONLY important ones, Harrison and Sanders...in 10..it jumps to a possible 24 with 11 standout players (Bruschi, Wilfork, Kaczur, Neal, Mankins, Seymour, Hobbs, Light, Vrabel, Warson, Gostkowski)...My thoughts were that later this year and next year the team extended some of THOSE 11 players so that they ALl do not hit FA at the same time.

looks like the pats cap number is dwindling. according to miguel, pats have around 8.8 mil avaible not including webster, gaffney, and aiken. gaffney's deal is reported to be 1year/2million. webster should get at least 1 mil and aiken will probably get a little under 1 mil. leavin around 5 mil for the #7 pick, the othe draft picks, plus any other FA additions

and kuzcur too? suck in the SB and let brady get sacked once every game and youll earn 750k?

How were you able to discovery the certain escalator clauses in players' contracts? I thought that wasn't disclosed in press releases?

I'd like to see Haggans brought in over Hobson.
Call me ridiculous but we had pretty good luck bringing in a backup LB from Pitt before.
Also Manjudas has books of tendencies on certain players.
Being he is outside the division he probably has less insight on the guy.
Plus I think Haggans is a better player.

There is a difference between Haggans and Vrabel. Haggans is already 31 years old, on the decline physically, and already had some productive years in Pitt.

Vrabel was a young bench warmer who just needed more playing time. The Steelers didn't really need him at the time, but they also didn't seem to realize what they had either.

Mangini's book of "tendencies" doesn't worry me at all. Trust me, BB has a giant book on each player and coach in that organization.

I was thinking the very same thing about Kazcur.

In my opinion, he is a backup.

Ok well what are your thoughts on Dan Morgan?
I know he's a question mark health wise but if he could be signed to a deal low on guarantees and high on escalators.
He could be a excellent addition.
Always around the ball, not afraid to mix it up good lateral speed.
I've seen him drop back in coverage on a regular basis.
My question is can he adapt to a 3-4 and how well does he do with a 290 pound guard throwing him back?

If he would sign a Phifer type deal, he could be used as a coverage LB specialist maybe. But who knows if that kind of offer would be enough. The FA market is crazy lately. Thanks in large part to the Raiders and Jets tossing out insane contracts like candy on Halloween.

    No Jersey Selected

Didn't Asante have a very incentive-laden deal? Or was that the year before?

I do not know what the clauses are. I just looked at the players salaries on the NFLPA.org site. On Monday Wilfork's salary was $700,000. Yesterday it was $1,400,000. The logical conclusion is that his salary was increased because he reached some escalators.

Unless someone is cut or redo's a contract we have about enough cap space now for one more mid-level signing.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I hope that I am.
