McDonough with a huge shot at the nfl last night

wow. I totally agree with him the flags make the game so much less watchable. I hate how "And there is no flag on the field!" after like some huge play is part of the deal, like you are always expecting the most exicting parts of football to be ruined by a flag. Imagine if in game 7, bottom of 8th or something after a long at bat, someone hits a three run homer.. The crowd goes wild.. and everyone is praying to god there is no nullifying flag. The game would suck.

There should be a version of football where you can mug each other, hold, a constant fight, the QB has to run around... All passes would be like back yard football where the receive has to get open then you gun it at him. That is what the XFL should have done.
It used to be that way

Of the penalties called, I agreed with most of them. The fault lies more with the crappy play on the field than the refs or the rule book.
There were a lot of ticky tacky calls in the first half last night, but that is probably due more to the fact the league has become a ticky tacky league

I honestly think the product has suffered a lot due to the watered down practices. I also think it may have something to do with so many injuries. But i mean if you aren't allowed to practice technique tackling how are they to be expected to perform it on Sunday's?

Ratings are down because the games are bad. The majority of fans won't stop watching because of deflategate, only the really, really hardcore types care about that and only a fraction of them might care enough to stop watching.

Bad games equal watching something else. Last night's game was a great example of that and I don't know what the NFL can do to fix that. It looked like a good matchup on paper if you forget the LOL Jets factor.
Perhaps George Soros funded deflategate to ruin the league?

Well, he's off Goodell's Christmas Card list...and onto his sh!t list!

Last night's game was brutal. The penalties ruined that game other than the pure enjoyment of watching the Jets implode.

Too much parity means all teams equally suck. The league needs to realize that we watch sports to see people at the top level of their skills, not a game where you can do a best of five and still not be able to decide which team is better.

Once Brady retires, viewership will drop even more because there will be no star power to pull in viewers.

Watching the Jets' DB's and HC with repeated WTF facial expressions was the best part of the game.

Yeah, todays NFL is really watered down and this is why when TB12 and Bill are done, so will I be.

The NFL* will finally be worth watching once BB is done coaching and the owners give him the position of Commissioner with full authority to.make the changes he feels fit to make.

Imagine if the NFL put its efforts into improving its on-the-field product and left the media stuff to the media?

To amplify this, today's NFL.COM article Bill Belichick will probably be a solid grandfather says:

The first instinct is to assume that Belichick would be one of those gruff grandfathers who don't say much and just start to blend into the living room after awhile. I had two grandfathers and neither were overly emotive men. One called me a meatball pretty much every time he saw me. But I'm going to say Belichick goes in the other direction. I can see the ol' tactician as a sweet and warm figure. Think Vito Corleone in the garden.

And in true grandfather form, Tuesday's presser also included Belichick offering a nearly six-minute rant against modern technology.

Can't wait to be a cranky old man.

I personally think if the NFL focused on the on-field content more, it'd be a lot more interesting. Keep in mind this stuff is being produced by the NFL itself so it is deciding to focus on this social media kind of nonsense rather than finding something interesting about the games themselves. I guess that makes me a cranky old man too? :)

Yet when it really matters i.e. end of ATL-SEA game where Richard Sherman blatently interferes with Julio Jones, we don't see a flag...

What I can't understand is, why is the NFL cracking down so hard on fights? It used to be where you'd have to go all out and brawl to get penalized, even then there wouldn't always be flags. Even littlest things like celebrating in front of the other team gets a heavy taunting penalty.

Is it the ultra PC environment we live in today? Or is it a player safety issue? I don't remember too many guys getting concussions from fights. So why try and crack down on people this hard? A coach can't even swear at the refs anymore...

I get all the Der Kommissioner* stuff and how corrupt he is, but I can't figure out what benefit he gets from doing this.

SM will be given his walking papers tomorrow. How dare he defy the edicts of Der Kommissar Goodell*!

I'm no fan of his but he probably realizes what a mistake it was to sign up for the gig and is trying to get out of town with a separation package if **** wants him out. I'll give him credit as he has the biggest balls on any announcer I have ever heard wrt NFL games. Kudos ro him. Was it me or did anyone else notice that the dolt next to SM was somewhat quiet and wanted to back away from any fallout?

After this season's kickoff game nobody really believes the league is the least bit interested in player safety.

Pink hats, mostly on the male audience.

Sean is the best. He's never been afraid to speak his mind. I can't wait to hear what he says on air if ESPN tries to pin the rating decline on him.

Sean is the ultimate in competency, but man, is he dry. Does he smile? Does he raise his voice? After awhile, it's just a drone.
