Tom Brady
Rob Gronkowsi
Steve Grogan
Tedy Bruschi
Tom Yewcic (His wife was an Elementary School Teacher of mine in the 60's)

This is difficult. Unfortunately I have negative memories of some of these guys. Mike Haynes left for the Raiders, probably correctly, but I haven't forgiven him for leaving. Sam Bam, still can't let go of his running out of bounds in the 76 Raider's playoff game. Adam, abandoned us for a dome in Indy.

I Hear Ya, Good points.
I became a Pats Fan in '76 mainly because of Grogan. That era of late 70s early to mid 80s Russ, Mike, Tim, Haynes, Sam etc were my favs. I hear where your comin from. That '76 team was special what they accomplished that year, Grogan breaking TDs Rushing by a QB(12), Mike Haynes DROY.

If I had to look back at what irked me it would definitely be Phantom Roughing Passer on Stabler flagged on Sugar 'Bear'Hamilton.
That was a potential Pats vs Vikes SB ( My other Fave Tark & '76 Vikes)

But We'll always have 'Tuck Rule' Game, Karma Baby!

Obviously talent level isn't there to compare Randy, Russ, or Ben to Gronk. A tradition of production at the TE position.

PS, it's a shame because I like saying "Randy Vataha." For similar reasons, this year I am really pulling for Barkevious Mingo. I am not sure whether that name is meant to make me think that he was the only Druid Roman emperor or whether it's a made up adjective but I love to say it, especially in combination with that last name.

Barkeevious Mingoooooo.

Wow try typing THAT on the iPhone and watch autocorrect go nuts.

1. Tom Brady - he's the GOAT, been a joy to watch
2. Steve Grogan - he was the attitude of the Patriots of my youth
3. Mosi Tatupu - just loved to play the game
4. Troy Brown - the poster boy for the Patriot Way
5. Rob Gronkowski - see Mosi, and I suspect he'll go down as the GOAT before he's done

Woodhead ;)
TFB
WW :p
JE :)
Gronkenstein

Out of curiosity, why do people consistently select players in these lists? Surely Belichick needs to be considered? I love the guy especially given his contempt for the media. Watching a Patriots press conference with the stone cold look in his eyes, the dismissive grunts, the death stares... I can't help but PMSL.
My thinking is that it already was really a list of four Patriots since Brady would be on every list (see the OP's first post). If you add the obvious choice of BB as HC then it becomes a list of three.

1. Tom Brady
2. Randy Moss
3. Curtis Martin
4. Terry Glenn
5. Ty Law

He who shall not be named used to be my number 1 until we found out who he really was. Man I loved his talent.

I appreciate all players but I love the elite talents the best. Guys who could do special things when you put the ball in their hands.

I also loved Vincent Brown and Chris Slade. Brown was one of the toughest and strongest players of all time

...

Honorable Mention: Malcolm Butler for the greatest clutch play in NFL history!!

Admittedly another great subject for another thread and another day but I'd have Vinatieri's kick to tie the Snow Bowl (45 yards into the teeth of a blizzard) in a dead heat with Butler's INT for the greatest clutch play. Photo finish. And, we really can't mention Butler's "pick" without mentioning Browner's busting Kearse's "pick." And if we really want to get "picky," we have to mention Hightower's tackle of Lynch on the prior play.

Honestly I loved that 96 team. A big reason we were so good was because of Curtis Martin and Terry Glenn. Two amazingly talented players.

Martin is arguably the most talented patriots RB of all time. I would say easily. Watch highlights of his playoff performance vs Pittsburgh in 96, I have never seen a patriot running back that good in my entire life. Just unbelievable. Just incredible incredible vision. Maybe one day I could see talent like that again in a pats uniform at RB

Terry Glenn: in case you forgot, watch some of his patriots highlights from 96. He made some of the most amazing catches I have ever seen in traffic. He got incredible height in his vertical jump, got great separation, had great hands, and no one was better at making the impossible sideline catch than him. He caught this one 50 yard bomb in 96 it looked like he jumped 10 feet into the air. I forget who it was against. Unfortunately Brady and Glenn only played a few games together but they made it count. Glenn put up a dominant performance vs San Diego in 01. Even far past his prime, Glenn put up quite a few 1000 yard seasons with bad QBs in Dallas. Watch his highlight tape sometime in his prime, he looked like Brandon Lloyd on steroids. A rare talent.

``From a talent standpoint, Terry Glenn is as good as any receiver I've ever been around,'' - Bill Belichick 2000

A couple of thoughts:

1) The list is almost impossible to do without leaving someone great off, especially if we include guys like HOF'ers Hannah and Tippett from "the old days."

2) I don't think I saw Gostkowski on any list (my apologies if I missed him), but plenty of mentions of Vinatieri. Is this because he's having a shaky start to this season in the eyes of many or is there another reason?

3) I imagined trying to do this for the Jets and it's a pretty steep drop off after Namath, Martin, Klecko and Revis with another two or three tied for number five, but not the dozen or so that keep getting mentioned in this thread after you get past the obvious choices. How lucky we are.

I know it was really only one season and don't get me wrong I loved Martin and was PISSED he went to the jets but Dillon 2004? Clock killin was unbelievable that year, like every game in the 4th quarter the other team KNEW he was getting the ball and he would get 5-8 yards every time. He was the greatest closer I have ever seen that year. Different RB with a different style but I loved the physicality he brought to the offense. Give me the big back that people just refuse to tackle anymore at the end of the game.
