Based on my slogging through about nine pages of mostly *****ing and moaning about the 3 guys we lost, it looks like we got about 4 of the 10 slots filled. It's 1 am and I'm getting cranky. I NEED a list.
With only 8 guys on the current practice squad after today, my takeaway is that the Pats intend to fill spots 9 and 10 with guys who are currently on the 53. These are guys he thought would be claimed off waivers today, and he thinks will be ignored on waivers tomorrow because most teams consider their rosters "set" at the end of the day today. Belichick has done this in the past before.
So the questions are, which 2 guys would they be, and who will replace them on the 53? My guess on one of the replacements is Keyshawn Martin - reporters say his locker is still intact; Belichick may have had a wink/nudge agreement to bring him back and felt there was no chance he would be claimed off waivers. No idea on the other guy; perhaps a trade is in the works?
As for the guys on the 53 who could be headed to the practice squad, my number one guess is Mongo. 10 O-linemen is a lot, he is still a bit raw, and he would likely have been claimed today. They other guy could be, dare I say, DJ Foster if the additional 53 man replacement is a between the tackles running back.
Eight guys signed.
Sankey, DeBord, Street, Grissom, Barker, Johnson, Hamilton, Lucien. We have two spots open. I'd love to see KGH and Roberts back, but it's far more likely that we've lost them for good. Sad.
Kline can as well.According to BB's press transcript, they kept Karras because he can play all three interior positions. Don't think he's in danger of being released.
Kline can as well.
He sticks for now . Lots of players on the PUP and suspended. We'll see
We didn't want him when we had him
I think Brady and Ninko will replace a TE(Harbor) and OL(Fleming). I'd like another WR too. Not sure where else to cut.
We didn't keep him so why would we claim him if the jets cut him?I disagree, I think BB wanted him just not as much as the 5 he kept. If he goes on the jets PS and we suffer an injury, I think he will get a call pretty damm quick.
They aren't on practice squads. They are on the 53Unless, due to injury or other issue, we sign them to the team from their current practice squads...
As BB said everything is still in flux. Lots of players like Roberts, Foster, JJ, Karras and maybe a couple of others have PS eligibility.
All that said....they need a quality backup swing tackle badly. The fact that Fleming out performed Waddle in preseason is frightening. I've seen a lot of names fly around around the league over the past couple of days and none of them offer any encouragement. If they see Vollmer not making any progress and will be IR'd at some point I think they need to make a deal. I'm one of the few who think Cannon is a decent backup.
There are unpredictable injuries that occur over four weeks.I think Brady and Ninko will replace a TE(Harbor) and OL(Fleming). I'd like another WR too. Not sure where else to cut.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. Fleming was outright dreadful. Waddle was bad, but was better than Fleming overall..
Beyond that, I agree that the Pats need an upgrade over those two at tackle. If Khalif can fit their plans and budget, I'd grab him and see how he does.. He could even be an upgrade over Cannon.

I'll second the where-the-hell-did-you-get-this sentiment? Waddle played pretty well. I see nothing to indicate that Fleming outplayed him - in fact, I was disappointed that Fleming hadn't seemed to improve much.
As for the rest...
Maybe LeBlanc will become the next Butler, but I find Butler to be pretty unique and a guy with his physical limitations being so damned good speaks to things (intangibles) you can't predict.
I've never understood the love of KGH. SS/LB hybrid? Sure. But he's nowhere near Chung, and certainly doesn't hit like a Kam Chancellor. Seemed like a pretty good prospect - certainly no better than either Grissom or Rufus Johnson seemed to be last year.
Sad to see Roberts go, but he's no upgrade over anything we have.
We have one, it's this one!You two... get a forum. LOL

Hernandez just tattooed another tear.I was really surprised that they kept Harbor over some others, particularly LeBlanc and KGH. I wonder if that means that Josh and BB are going to feature the TE in new ways this year, perhaps moving inside and surprisingly moving outside like a big WR more than in the past. After all, the Pats have never had two receiving pure Y-type TE's like Gronk and Bennett. Maybe that is why they are keeping 4 TE's? It will be interesting to watch.
