Josh Norman is now a free agent - Panthers removed franchise tag

Why the hell would Carolina do that? I would love to see him on the Pats but I think a move to the Jags or Raiders is more likely.

Who has salary cap space of $15m at this point?
The Jets will somehow sign him by circumventing the space/time continuum and the salary cap (and Goodell).

I think the Panthers made the right choice here. The guy's an overconfident zone corner. He has one very good career year and acts like he's the best thing smoking. They can get my dead grandma to play zone with that sick pass rush of theirs. Heck I'd play for 100k/yr and keep quiet. I'm not as talented as Norman, however, clearly.

11 teams apparently: NFL 2016 Cap Tracker

But only 4 when you account for "adjustments"

I don't think those figures tell the whole story though. There's a lot more to take into consideration.

The "adjustments" are generally cap carryover from teams that were too cheap to spend to the cap in previous years. Could fit Norman on a one-year Revis-eque type of deal and then move on next ear. The Colts could wind up making this type of move. Would also be curious if Chip Kelly demands a "set it and forget it" defense situation and tries to talk his GM into signing him.

This late in free agency it might make sense for Norman to sign a 1 year below market deal with the pats. The pats will be superbowl contenders and Norman could cash in next year. If all he cares about is money and not winning, than he will probably end up on the Jags or Raiders.

At his age this is his last shot for a huge payday, taking a 1 year deal would be dumb.

This isn't a 'I tore my ACL and then had a crappy year so I need to prove it' Revis type situation.

Odd for the Panthers to do that. It would make a lot more sense to let him walk at the beginning of FA when there were a few guys worth spending money on. Now they will not be able to find the talent to replace that loss.

Both teams in the SB lost big time FAs this year.

Revis's cap hit on his 2014 deal was just 7 million right? With a 5 million dead cap hit the following year.

Not willing to say 0% on this one.

EDIT: He essentially declined a 1 year guaranteed deal. Nevermind. :D

That would be the biggest FU ever to Goodell. Take away our number 1 pick? That's cool we'll sign a guy just as good as a first rounder :D

Do it Bill.

We're already the Evil Empire.

Lure him to the Dark Side with cash and the promise of gold rings.

Never will happen

I wouldn't say never. After all, as illustrated the team *could* free up the room and structure the deal accordingly if they wanted to.

Personally, I think it's unlikely though. Sounds like he wants his one-time long-term big money deal, and I'm not sure BB would want to do that with an outside player who has played 16 games once in his career, who doesn't fully fit the current scheme, and has the appearances of a me-first attitude. But stranger things have happened, and Norman certainly played great last year.

It was 7 you are correct. That was because of the funny second year. I don't see it happening because it would be around a minimum 12 mil cap hit.

0.0 Mr. Blutarsky.

Norman to the pats? 29 y/o, $15 mil+ per season, 1 good season as a zone corner, threatening a holdout because he wants a rich multi-year deal...

Anyone around here still thinking, "I wish we had shelled out the cash to sign Asante Samuel to a long term deal"?

If we didn't have butler, then sure. But I would rather pay butler next year because

1. Butler won't be looking for 17 mill a year.
2. I think Butler is just as good as Norman AND younger.

On the contrary we could still pay both butler and Norman probably but then we would lose Hightower and Collins, which I would not be willing to do.... Although we could snag jaylon smith in the 2nd round and redshirt him haha.
