Very nice. Who do people prefer, Potroast or Fairley?

Good question. Honestly don't know. I think Fairley would have done well here. This, though, takes more pressure off of Branch. Even with Fairley, they wouldn't have been overly stout when Branch was out.

I think Potroast might give them more flexibility with Easley - kick him outside more - and gives them a 2 and 2 rotation inside,

On the other hand, I've always thought Fairley could be a monster player if he just found proper motivation.

So there's my totally wishy-washy answer. I'm glad they got one of them!!!!

I don't believe there is another sports forum that is anywhere near as obsessed with money as this one is. Its ******ed, the idea is to win, not to save as much money as possible. They know what they are doing and manage their roster and cap better than any team in sports. Get over it folks, it isn't about money It's about winning.

Where's the beef, on the Patriots D-line apparently-
Although, I did hear it's a leaner pot roast than we are used to, dropped 30-40 lbs

maybe a quicker, more agile beast? Could be scary for the competition

Did Wendell miss his assignment on that play? Hard to tell but it doesn't look like Mankins was the only one at fault on that one.

talk to me when he actually signs.

As someone said earlier, the Patriots roster right now (on paper) seems vastly superior than what we had on the field in Denver in January

I agree that $4.5 mill seems s little steep for Mr Roast, but I love our rebuilt defense.

If these moves were a reaction to goodell and the NYJFL stealing our draft pick, then I won't mind if the scum-suckers take them every year

That is true, and it also just underscores how much of a war of attrition every NFL season is. The biggest difference between winning the SB in 2014 and losing in the AFCCG in '12, '13 and '15 is that the 2014 team stayed pretty healthy. There were some injuries--Mayo and Ridley being the big ones--but nothing like the devastation of the other three years.

If the Pats can stay relatively healthy this year, we'll be playing in the Super Bowl. Huge if, this being the NFL and all, but it's the big if that applies to every team no matter how stacked.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

America's role models, the NYFL*, Goodell and the corrupt 32 have taught me by example you can do the crime and get away with it.

I dont like merged threads in a case like this, the thread had already 20+ pages, I think a proper thread to comment this signing would be appropriate

Knighton is a better player, but if I had a choice between them I would lean toward Fairley. Mostly because I have more faith in Brown and Branch to stay healthy than Easley, so I'd want the fourth guy in the rotation to have as much interior pass rushing ability as possible.

Although with Knighton's recent weight loss, he may be a more well-rounded, less specialized player. If that's the case I reserve the right to change my mind about everytihng I just said.

And we'll be adding Hogan to that list real soon.

The reason why most "Patriot killers" don't do well when we get them is because a lot of the time they're way past their prime by the time they get to New England. Age is the main (borderline only) reason why a few guys like Shaun Ellis and Torry Holt didn't work out here. Obviously that's not a factor with Knighton or Hogan.

Terrific acquisition. Great upgrade over Siliga. Pot Roast, Branch, Brown and Easley flanked by Ninkovich, Sheard and Long. I love this defensive front.

Last season looked good but we didn't know what we had in Brown and Easley with Wilfork gone.

Completely intact, solid secondary as well. It's been a while since the defense looks so solid everywhere before the draft.

The only question is at LB and Freeny and McClellin should be just fine.

I merged the threads. In my opinion, it's more sensible to have one thread about the topic as it evolves, versus spreading out conversation across multiple threads, as half the posters will stay in the original thread continuing conversation and half will move to the new thread when they see it, and it becomes overly complicated.

The board has become conditioned to believe you can get top of the market talent at bottom of the market prices because of Tom Brady. People need to understand he's playing for a legacy that by the time he is finished, will likely never be matched. What Brady is doing is not usual nor should people expect it to become normal.

When you've got Branch, Brown, and Knighton on the roster, I want those guys clogging space allowing Easley, Sheard, Ninko, Hightower, and Collins if called for, to pin back the ears and cause disruption.

I'm expecting big things from Easley this season. He's a few years removed from major surgeries now and with his first step, if he stays fit, he should terrorize opposing linemen.

If he can just stay healthy, he has the ability to be a moderately lesser version of Aaron Donald, which is a huge compliment considering that Donald was probably the most disruptive d-lineman in the NFL last year after JJ Watt. Donald and Easley both have an insane, borderline inhuman burst off the line for guys of their size.

The only thing that keeps me from sharing your expectation is that injuries remain a concern for me. I need to see him go 8 games without an injury before I'll be comfortable relying on him in any capacity.
