Is Danny Amendola the next domino to fall?

Read the thread again and list the people saying he needs his contract cut.. not everyone granted, but damn well nearly everyone, but anyway.. you can just think I am in the minority if you wish.

As did Lafell, but this discussion is really about the hear and now and what have you done for me lately. Not 18 months ago. There is zero room for sentiment IMO.

Agree, apart from the bolded, no not a new WR.. Gordon I don't think would cost that much. I would though like to hand Edelman a new 3 year deal though as a reward.

I didn't say you were in the minority.

Amendola has been far more productive than LaFell.

What has Edelman done for me lately? In the last 3 years he's played in less games than Amendola.

"Talk of Amendola being released first started in spring 2014, when the receiver had been outproduced by Julian Edelman as quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite target. Nothing happened that offseason, and Amendola went on to catch just 27 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown that season."

"And as the Patriots’ slot receiver, Amendola could see his production drop back down to 2014 levels as long as everyone stays healthy in front of him. If that’s the case, it’s hard to justify his $6.8 million cap hit."

Amendola restructured his contract in 2015, right after he helped the Pats earn their 4th LomBrady trophy. Here we are a year later and people are complaining about his contract. Like I said earlier, it's no wonder that some FA's don't want to come here.

What you did for me lately was lead the team WRs in receptions while playing half the season on an injured knee.

And one might note that there's a vast gulf between everyone and a majority. A majority probably do want his contract cut. Of course, a majority wanted JE cut multiple times.

So are you going to return to what I was saying regarding returners or are you going to continue to ignore that completely and continue down the route of something I don't necessarily disagree with you on. lol

perxy harvin is avaialble still not saying were interested.
Surprised he is still out there big boom or bust signings notmally dont last this long.

You say that but with the way the contract was structured both sides kinda knew back then that they would be redoing the deal this spring. If Amendola's agent did not he should be fired.

The Patriots are not the only NFL team that as they get older asks players to take pay cuts .

Like I said earlier, it's no wonder that some FA's don't want to come here.

Thats fanboyish talk. You are better than that.

That, of course, is absolutely wrong. Because BB wishes DA to stay -- but only with a restructured contract -- he has done what he typically does. Brings in someone that could step in DA's shoes (Chris Hogan) to create pressure/ leverage, pushes for another WR to put additional pressure on DA (indirectly), such as Washington, and then sees if he can get DA to redo his deal, while BB retains all the leverage: free agency is passing, most teams are filling their receiver needs now, and so DA is, over time, facing a dwindling and ever-reducing marketplace for his wares. All of which increases the likelihood of him redoing his deal.

In light of Hogan and the WR-kicking-tires that BB is doing, there is virtually zero chance that DA stays at his current deal. He absolutely will be cut if he doesn't restructure -- can't believe anyone studying Belichick's history and comparing it to the present situation would think differently...
Agree that the Hogan signing could indirectly assist in providing pressure DA to restructure. It's a little funny that the main reason DA is considered overpaid is that he was paid as if he was expected to step in Welkers shoes, which we all know didn't totally work out that way, but now everyone on the Cut Danny train is sounding completely sold that BB is right about Hogan and DA is therefore expendable even though the only other proven Brady-friendly WR is on the roster is Jules, who has played exactly 2 games with a screw in his foot.

The notion that Amendola would somehow be hard up for work is funny, but in reality he'd have 10 phone calls before you were finished typing your self-congratulatory told-ya-so post on this forum. Acting like he'll somehow be unemployed if he waits too long to restructure...come on. And the Patriots would be worse as a team for having lost him, which you would think would be your primary concern as a fan.

If he saves $4m by cutting DA only to sign Nate Washington for - what $3m? - then he's an idiot. The only thing Washington has on DA is that he's 2 inches taller. I absolutely wouldn't be surprised that BB seeks to lower/alter DA's contract to redirect the money somewhere else it's needed - with the way FA has gone so far I don't see what they "need" that money for and cutting his pay in a vaccuum, essentially for the sake of cutting it, doesn't seem logical.

I like your post but I cannot believe your questioning Edelman over Amendola lol

Especially when, in less games apparently Edelman has more yards, receptions, and TD's..

And im a Amendola guy 2..

They want to play GM?

I'd like to ask what is wrong with that. 90% of the forum is wrapped around that notion.

I don't play Madden but sure would love a game based on the GM side of it.

I like Amendola for the right price. However with Hogan and Edelman you don't really need him if he wants to be paid more than 2.5M.

IDK what we would do for WR if he goes but with Bennett I worry about it a little less.

If we can be certain that Edelman, Hogan, Gronk and Bennett will all stay healthy, we don't have much need for Amendola.

However, I lack faith in that assumption.

The bigger names still unsigned are generally looking for more than teams want to give them. Fitzpatrick, Upshaw, Harvin etc..... All want more than they can get at this point. Fitzpatrickn is their most surprising to me because Osweiler got ridiculous money and Fitzpatrick is the better QB.

It generally leads to idiotic takes because they are trying to play GM with a fraction of the knowledge necessary to actually be one, and in this forum we have had many who actually think they can do a better job than Belichick and some who actually claim they can.

The more time passes by, the less money they will get. Most NFL GMs are thinking, "We'll just wait for the draft now and get back to you later.".

Fitzpatrickn is their most surprising to me because Osweiler got ridiculous money and Fitzpatrick is the better QB.

Ossy has much more upside which is why he was paid what he was. If HOU thought Fitzy was the better Qb they would have brought him back. I really don't have a feel for the Fitzy market. Bradford got insane money and they are about even IMO. Sanchez received essentially a 1 year/$3.75m deal who is not as good as Fitzy. Maybe Fitzy is $9-10aav?

Amendola had the most receptions for a WR on the team last year and they were about 50 yards apart.

Though not unfounded.
