Patriots trade for TE Martellus Bennett!

Sometimes I feel like BB reads this message board. He just traded Jones to the Cardinals and then traded for Bennett. WTF? If he cuts Cannon tomorrow I'll probably s*** a brick.
Sort through 98% of the noise and the BS and there are some good ideas that come out of this board.

Trying to cover us in the RZ just got a wholeeee lot harder

Gronk Bennett Jules..Lewis out of backfield

Good luck winning in jersey Forte, you ****.

BB is feeling it, the afc east better preemptively apply the lube this year, Brady is coming in hot.

Reports of being unhappy with his contract and so not giving maximum effort on the field, also unhappy that he's playing second fiddle to Zach Miller who managed to stay healthy and produce. Basically character issues.

Ya but he's out of Chicago now and with a team that has been in the AFCC the last 5 years and playing 2nd fiddle to Gronk in this offense is much more rewarding.

In all seriousness I wonder what this means for a guy like AJ Derby. Is it another year of developing? I know he waa put on IR last year...

He'll be the TE3. If he can play at a serviceable level it's onLy more gravy. And I think he can play.

It means his chances of making the team are as good as mine.

Wow... big time move. The Pats finally have a good #2 TE. This off season has kicked into over drive.

I love this move especailly cause no good TEs were really in the draft. Bring back Hooman on the cheap too. Why not? He knows the system and can catcha ball or block someone on occasion and with Bennett/Gronk that is all you need.

On paper, I see a team with the #1 offense and a top 10 defense that could be top 5. The 2016 Pats are going to be a handful.

So curious to see what we do in the draft with limited needs. IMO, Brady has enough weapons now and I'd love to play it safe and trade up for a legit OT prospect. We'll see what BB decides soon.

No chance that Bennett will take a paycut when he quit on the Bears last season because of his contract.

To me this is just an one-year rental. We take his $5 million cap hit and let him walk next offseason. I'm pretty sure we still have enough cap space to extend Hightower this offseason even with the Bennett addition, unless you are suggesting that the Pats should do more in addition to Bennett then yes, we don't have enough cap space, but remember we still have Cannon and Amendola's contract that could be restructured or even dumped.

if he walks we get a comp pick

Hooman resigned with the Saints I believe

What's his salary for next year?

And for the first time since early 2012, Brady has a lethal TE combo to work with. Love the trade. Bring in a WR to hit the intermediate to deep routes and add a piece or two more to the OL and this offense is deadly.

I don't think there is any question that they will be restructured but there is really no rush to do it if the money is going to be used for extensions.

Folks on here genuinely do have the Pats best interest at heart and don't just pluck ideas out of thin air because it sounds good. When i kept saying that i wanted a tall fast receiver to stretch the field it wasn't because i wanted more fantasy points, it was because i believe it would compliment and thrust the other parts of this offense to greater heights. As weird as this sounds i still think we are only scratching the surface of Jules and Gronk's potential.

Last 2 days basically work out like this

Chandler Jones (7.9 mil) and a 4th

for

Bennett (5 mil)
