Yeah he wants in big time

One WR who i would actually like here and think could do well
So probably some mix of the Pats still evaluating their options and Washington also wanting more than just a million bucks, considering the market. I would be happy with him or Boldin, as both have their positives and negatives. Boldin would probably cost more even though he's several years older, but would bring a certain level of toughness and veteran leadership to group. Not to say that you want to have a bunch old guys, but this team is decidedly young - I think a couple more veteran leaders like Boldin would help a lot. At the same time, Washington has been in the league a while and has worked his tail off to keep his career going this long from being a UDFA way back in like 2004, so he's been around the block himself, just don't know how much leadership he brings to the table.

It's also worth noting that I believe Washington is more of a pure X receiver which is what the team needs, whereas Boldin has generally been an outside receiver but has done more in the slot too as he's gotten older.

Right. Because the one thing BB is known for is throwing stupid money at the WR position. Where do you GET this stuff anyway?

Not the WR position specifically, although Amendola's contract was an obvious over-payment, as some
thought at the time. I was actually still having Marcus Cannonfodder flashbacks as I was typing that post.

I think Amendola's contract was okay, I just think his injuries have cost him a lot physically and he isn't what he once was. I remember him from back when he was still a Ram, he used to be damn fast. He's still quick now, but I don't think top speed or overall quickness is at all what it used to be...

One could argue that the team could have foreseen that he is injury prone and that this could be a future issue and thus not pay top dollar due to that, but it is what it is.

There is a difference between quality depth and overpaying mediocre players like Jones or Sanu.. Or are they not good enough for you?

Usually there is a significant drop off from your 1 and 2, and The rest of your WRS

If me saying our two star pass catchers are good enough to where we don't need to overpay for sexy names in free agency makes me a troll, I guess I am

In reality, it makes me smarter than you and more in tune to what BB and co. Actually do down there. This isn't madden 2016 bro. The cap isn't crap.
Marvin Jones is not mediocre, at all. And yes, he was plenty good enough for me. He was my #1 free
agent target at WR.
You implied not that we don't need to overpay for sexy names in free agency; rather, that we don't need
to even persue young talented WRs in free agency.
Not only is there a significant drop-off from the #s 1 & 2 to the rest of our WRs, there is a significant drop-off from the #1 TO the #2.
And our 2 star pass-catchers are always injured, every year. We need more. Brady deserves more.

They've had an elite offense just about every single season since Brady was 2 or 3 years in the league, lol

BRADY NEEDS MORE

Give me a break. How many teams don't have a significant drop off from their top two to the rest?

How many teams can survive their top two options getting hurt?

And please, stop downplaying how important and how good Edelman is. Stop. Overpaying for Marvin Jones would be such a stupid signing. Wow. Yeah let's sign a Bengal and lose out on signing either Hightower, Collins, or Butler

SOLID PLAN

Seems like once they get the Pats offer he'll give Houston a chance but they're probably gonna have to beat it by a decent amount.

Guy has to be sitting there salivating at the thought of playing with Brady after the JAG QBs he has had the last 7 years.

Now you're just being obtuse.

And I'm not down-playing Edelman. He's our #1 WR. The drop-off between him and our #2 WR is significant. You're lumping Gronkowski with the WRs, but that doesn't change the fact that our talent base & depth at WR sucked last season.

Gronk being a TE is irrelevant bro.

He's a pass catcher, and one of the best in football. Teams are so envious of our 1-2 punch.

Not to mention Pats have 2 pretty solid pass catching backs in Lewis and White.. Say what you will about White as a running back but he stepped up as a pass catcher

Combined for 76 rec 800 yards 6 TD

Absolutely.

Getting let go by the Texans is like getting rejected by Berklee College of Music. You have to be insanely bad for that to happen. This has Joey Galloway written on it like white on rice.

Camp fodder... Jag... Typical Pats free agent signing... Zzzzzzzzzz....

Guess Tony Simmons or Tony Gaiter werent available...

Yes, yes. Nate Washington has been in the league ten years, so not a good start. But, then again, those are names of former bad Patriots wide receivers that you can remember, so.....excellent comparison. Excellent comparison.

They've had an elite offense since 2007, minus 2008. Nothing elite offensively about those 2001-2006 Patriots teams besides Tom.

do you need me to list the 5,000 washed up Jag/scrap heap/WAY past their prime receivers that have been signed in April and cut in August? Or who just sucked? The list is exhaustive...if ur not wise to this, or didn't comprende the sarcasm in my post, i don't know what to tell ya....

Brady or Brock..should be easy but $$ always talks. But by his agent it went really well and sounds like Pats are in the lead from that little bit

Always liked Washington, he's been a solid WR for a number of years. He's not a #1 or 2 type guy, but he doesn't need to be here. He'd be welcome competition for this group.

Teams cut almost 40% of their camp roster so no, no it would be pointless for you to list the players who were brought in to compete for a job and not get one

Can easily see Nate coming in and earning a spot. Guy has produced with quarterbacks that aren't in TB'S class plus he can sure get vertical even at 32. I think this may work well for both sides.
