Appearantly the Browns are looking to keep Gordon and are excited about his future and what he can do In Jacksons system.
Is this posturing for comensation I really want Gordon on the pats.

They have him back at a low price. They should want to keep him. Sucks, but I never thought it was realistic he would end up here.

Lets hope is just posturing.

It's a fantastic deal for them at the moment. Top 5 WR talent for that cheap?? You have to take that.

Especially with them not appearing as likely to hold on to Travis Benjamin now, it's important they keep him on board for now.

Why?

Poor guy can't even go on a bender and get kicked off the team to greener pastures

But I agree I don't see any real reason for them to move him unless they were trying to totally flush the system, he's making just over $1M to play for his football life this year. Look out.

The real reason is that a team that has been in the doldrums as long as the Browns has to consider the idea that he's one joint away from being done in the NFL. If they could pry a 2nd or 3rd away from a team it might be better for a rebuilding team. Manziel's shenanigans didn't help in this regard.

I guess I just don't think of the Browns as a team in a position to assume risk the way some other teams could. That ownership has everyone on a short leash constantly.

Was there really a great chance he would end up here anyway? He tweeted that Brady is the GOAT...does that really mean you think he's going to get cut and sign with the Patriots or get traded to the Patriots?

We hear this every year about how some troubled player with immense talent is going to end up here on a prove-it deal with little guaranteed money. It happened with Randy Moss and Aqib Talib, but neither of those guys were free agents either. There are 30 other teams also aware of said player's talent with optimism that they can also change said player's attitude. Typically the Patriots are conservative in going after these guys and get outbid by teams who are a little more desperate. That, or they'll find a guy like Haynesworth where there is a reason that his stock is so low.

Just saying..I'm sure there are 30 other fanbases with message board threads about Josh Gordon and why their team should take a shot at him. Let's stop pretending that acquiring him was anything but a fantasy to begin with.

I get that angle, but I also think you could argue that they are in the best position to assume risk (with the obvious 'godfather offer' caveat that they're not getting for Gordon). They have the least to lose. They already suck, they're already a joke, they should be at least a little more aware of how to handle/identify problems given the Manziel situations, and if they believe the guy will make it to the field then the likelihood of the 2nd or 3rd rounder offering a higher return is pretty low. He ran roughshod over the league with a combo of Campbell/Weeden/Hoyer throwing to him and zero other offensive threats to draw attention away.

With DePodesta being there now (which is, if nothing else, the most intersting NFL hire in some time) I'm sure they have some sort of abstract calculus for risk/reward metrics with regard to Gordon. I wouldn't be surprised either way, but in general I see more upside for them keeping him around.

Yeah I'm not saying it's obviously the right move to trade him, I'm just saying that there is a possible reason why they would want to move him in answer to someone saying there's no real reason to get rid of him.

Damn. Poor Gordon.

If it makes Travis Benjamin an afterthought for them, I'm all for it. I know many people here think of him as a "short (5'10"), deep threat," but the guy is fast (4.36), can get open, and racks up YAC.

You could argue that his hands suck.... but rec/target would probably rise going from Manziel to Brady.

Yeah, I don't like to piss on other's Hopes, generally, but now that this seems to be about to be put to rest, I gotta say that the Idea of the Browns coughing up Gordon for pennies on the dollar always seemed preposterous to me: Gordon's Punishments have exceeded his alleged Crimes far more egregiously and disgustingly than in any place outside New EngLand, and I, for one, have been reading nothing but encouraging indications about his Attitude and behavior for quite some time, now.

My Money's on Gordon erupting into SuperStardom immediately, and on sustaining that level of Excellence for the next several Years ~ without any Disaster ever befalling'm. I think that the Dawgs would be insane to surrender his Services for anything less than a King's Ransom. I wouldn't.

On a side and serious note would anyone here move Chandler Jones for a receiver whether its via a draft pick we have our eyes on.
Or a current player Gordon for Jones
Im really close to hoping that happens.
I like the depth on the d line but not at receiver.
Its simple as that for me

I wouldn't trade Jones for a receiver unless it's a really good one (not happening and not going to agree for a straight-up Gordon-for-Jones with the obvious risks associated with Gordon). Our depth at DE is deceptive. Ninkovich is getting up there in age and Flowers/Grissom have yet to prove anything. If we trade Jones we need to go after another potential starter at DE.

While true on some level, Jabaal Sheard looked pretty decent playing DE last season, and they may consider re-upping him not just for the future due to strong play, but also to reduce his current 7m dollar cap hit. I can't imagine that it sits well with Belichick having to dedicate 20+ million dollars worth of cap hits to our three main DEs this season.

No one is going to feel comfortable about Flowers/Grissom until they contribute on the field, but Belichick did choose to spend 2 top 100 draft selections on addressing the situation last spring, so it's fairly obvious that he's preparing for the future without Jones, Ninkovich, Sheard--or any/all of the combinations at some point in the near future.

I definitely agree with you that I wouldn't entertain the idea of trading Jones straight up for a WR unless he's a proven, top 10 player at his position--and we all know that isn't happening. One thing to keep in mind is that they'll simply make another selection if they don't believe that Flowers/Grissom have shown enough in year one to make them feel optimistic. They aren't afraid of using more draft resources, and are generally in a position of luxury as it pertains to the draft in the first place.

Depends on which poster you're asking, as some tend to take these ridiculous scenarios very seriously. ;)

Of course it was a fantasy. None of it made sense. The Browns have no reason to want to get rid of a promising young player who is on a cheap, rookie contract, particularly after they spent a high round supplemental draft selection on him. The Patriots have no reason to offer up what it would take (likely something in the 2nd-3rd round range) since there's no guarantee that he'd:

1) pick up our system
2) stay out of trouble

Doesn't matter the coach. That franchise's a joke. If i am gordon i would want a trade
