ESPN First Take actually hits the Manning case on the head..

The *NFL off-season has begun. You can bet this is officially approved. Not quite the screaming heard as last year, but it'll keep the headlines churning through spring.

<--- Cynic

Yeah it's a good point...more and more we see these 'scandals' pop up at the tail end of the year that get through the NFL dead period, only to quiet down once the season starts up. Manning always felt like an untouchable asset, I wonder if this is allowed to play out because it ultimately is a small character ding in most peoples minds (if a ding at all, because so many are focusing on either the media source, the fact it was 20 years ago, or the way the media ignored it when it played out in 1997-2005), and has bonus points because it diverts attention from the HGH thing. Let this small ding play through the media cycle for a few weeks, by the time Manning is a full time analyst it's an afterthought and only a tiny sub-section of NFL fans will even think about the HGH allegations. That story NEVER sees the light of day, partly because it's Manning but mostly because it's a can of worms the NFL will fight tooth and nail to keep shut.

The interesting about both Peyton stories is the way they are attacking the reporters. First Al Jazeera, and now Shaun King.

If by interesting you mean predictable. We don't have an actual, mainstream investigative sports media in this country. All of our mainstream sports media outlets are in bed with the leagues they cover and will only report on something that might damage those relationships when their hand is forced enough that the league in question can't blame them. But to expect ESPN to uncover and report something about a given league on their own volition? lmao

So we're left with the fringe types who are then easily attacked as being biased, nutcases or whatever.

Amazing how they claim to have had no knowledge of this, yet it's common knowledge on this forum for nearly all members?

Plus, one of the defenses has been "This is old news. We heard about this 20 years ago." Somehow, these media members, with their inside access, missed this story.

Except in these two cases the reporters aren't fringe. The reporters at Al-Jazeera are top class, and have won a lot of awards. The reporter at the Daily News works for a rag, but it's not fringe. It's a suspect big daily. He himself has been attacked for his claims that he's of mixed parentage, but after looking into it, it was a tawdry hit piece by Breitbart.com that ripped a guy with dubious facts.

True, but al Jazeera has scurry words in it so people like Ditka dismiss it out of hand.

I can bet that Manning has employed Ray Donovan or someone like him before to do with bidding for him.
It all sound too feasible for people like MCI not to dig. If you dig, you will find the bodies man. They always come out. His mode is like Lance Armstrong. Deny attack attack deny. For loop to infinity.

You are assuming that MCI has a shred of motivation and journalistic instinct to pursue this story.

just as with kraft, there's no purpose to bashing the dude........he grew up a hick and did a hick thing at UT

all i hear are a bunch of overpaid fellas saying "why didn't anyone bring this up" despite the fact that we have been bringing it up for years.

Ironically, isn't bringing stories such as this up exactly what their job is - allegedly?

Sexually assaulting a woman and then defaming her in print is a hick thing? I feel like Jeff Foxworthy would have brought that up at some point.

well, that's the thing.........to a hick, that sort of thing has little to do with sexuality....he probably thought it was humor

I'm not excusing it......I hope he gets torn down......

Stephen A is going after Manning because he is white.

Any chance of a summary so I don't have to have my ears raped?

Allow me to help. Two overpaid men sat on each side of a Kardashianish woman and took 20 minutes to say something that could have been said in less than 5. One of them took a racist point of view and the other didn't.

Interesting how they tied his newly tainted image and untrustworthiness with whether there is more to the HGH story. That could get interesting.

On top of that I've seen a few twitter feeds bringing up his multiple infidelities during road trips and parties.

Peyton is such a dumbass. If he and his dad had left her out of the book those 74 pages of court documents would never had existed.

Archie can't help himself. I remember hearing him on radio the morning of the SB in 2007-2008 and he was taking shots at Fran Tarkenton being selected into the HOF. He came across as a loose cannon and a real dirtbag. My guess is that PEDton takes after pops and Eli takes after mom.

You could argue that Tarkenton is a HoF QB. I think he is but that is my opinion.

It is fact that Archie is not.

Yea..something about Archie has always rubbed me the wrong way

It's almost like the NFL said "hey guys he's retiring, feel free to do your thing it won't hurt us anymore", and just like that the switch was flipped and the flood gates opened.

I thought so too but I think it has more to do with the timing of the lawsuit at UT.

What does Kraft have to do with this story? He grew up in Brookline (far from Hicksville) and didn't sexually assault any woman.

My wife doesn't agree with my take on these type of things, but if PEDton did that to my wife or sister his arm would have been smashed with a baseball bat and his career would have been over right then and there.
