OT: Eagles release Chip Kelly

BB has emotional intelligence and Chip does not. Has nothing to do with the "PC agenda" or whatever. You say players should be treated like men--that's true. Chip treated them like numbers.
So true. Players run through walls for Bill not because he only pays them and they win....he legitimately cares.

BB going over to Kembrell is an example of this.

Yes, as the article points out, it looks good because it doesn't have a QB on it (other than Mark Sanchez...). And he traded away the 2nd rounder so the new guy's going to have to fill that void somehow.

Sure, but then he goes out and signs DeMarco Murray for lots of money, who proceeds to have a crap year AND stabs him in the back too.

Demarco couldn't adjust to running from something other than 7 yards behind the line. Instead of keeping his mouth shut and working on it until it clicked in his brain, he went up the back stairs. It's Pete Carroll and Bobby Grier all over again, only this time it was the owner instead of the GM.

Naturally, instead of telling the player that he's out of line, the owner went full ******.

I love Chip. But Chip should have listen to Bill, like BOB did. From 2013..

A potential sticking point for O'Brien regarding the Eagles job could be their new general manager Howie Roseman. The club's 37-year-old salary cap guru is known to be held in low regard by O'Brien's mentor, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and by another strong O'Brien contact, former Broncos head coach and Patriots assistant Josh McDaniels.

And yet Howie still stands.

Howie was a Tannenbaum hire with the Jets.

Anyone mentored by Tannenbaum is already tainted .

Lurie sucks. The Eagles suck. The situation there wasn't great this year, but I certainly wouldn't have freakin' fired the guy. It was his first year running the whole show for gods sake.

They remind me of the Jets

Shocking even for a giant ego, entitled, NFL owner to disregard organizational structure. The moment a player(individual contributor) is validated for disregarding the proverbial chain of command(management structure), the organization's chances of succeeding are lessened (whistle blowing items as noted exceptions). That is business 101 and something I would expect a billionaire wouldn't need explained to him from a Patsfan poster. Apparently he does....how crazy is that? :)

Not going to lie. As a Ducks fan and a Chip fan, I don't think Chip is cut out for the NFL. But seeing that weasel Roseman survive, who leaked a lot of sh!t to undermined chip(The racist stuff to Steven A was from howie, no doubt, allegedly). Ugh, I am a bit pissed off.

Now the Philly owner is publicly stating between the lines and not so between the lines criticisms of Kelly?
Lurie sounds like a perfect member of the Roger Brigade.
Right: We didn't have the success me, the team and the fans expect, we made the decision to change the HC position, the new coach we hire will have the same high expectation of success that we believe he will achieve.
Wrong: Kelly was a unlikable jerk and we want someone who is affable and swell. (yea this sounds like a good path Philly will be on).

Didn't listen to Lurie's press conference but from what I've read, doesn't seem like he gave Chip a glowing recommendation.

Lurie: "if you call me for a reference on Chip Kelly, I'll just tell you the dude has no people skills."

Nice and classy of Lurie.

Lots are assuming TEN due to the ties with Mariota, but I wouldn't be surprised if CLE ended up back in the mix. After all, they practically had him locked up the first time and somehow allowed him to get away.

If I'm Kelly, I'd have to think long and hard about taking either one of those jobs, especially after getting fired from the Eagles. He needs to put himself in a position where he can succeed and I don't see either one of the Titans or Browns giving him that opportunity within the next couple of years.

I'll tell you what, Kelly's offense with Manziel, if he can keep his act together might work.

I don't think that offense can win championships in the NFL ( it didn't in college) but it can definitely win games. Cleveland needs hope. I feel bad for that city.

Just reading the SalPal, Glazer and La Canfora takes and they all have a different spin but say the same thing.

1. Chip lost the locker room...Whatever. That happens when you lose.
2. Chip was hated by Iggles execs. He didn't like to collaborate. Whatever.
3. Chips philosophy was culture over talent and jersey sales dropped off.

Lurie did not offer Chip the option of keeping his job. He canned him without a discussion. Luries mind was made up. Chip had no chance. Im convinced Roseman prewired Lurie.

One thing is clear. Josh is not going there as Roseman and Donohoe will stay in power in 2016.

I agree. Lurie doesn't look too smart in all this. He may have heard some "lost the locker room" stories that made his mind up. Press conf was all about types of Leadership needed in the NFL. Otherwise, on the face of it, he would have given Kelly another year.

I am amazed that anyone seriously thinks Kelly is coming to NEP. I would put that at 5% max. BB has a culture of promote from within. If Josh leaves, I expect its next man up...

Thats just me

Daboll seems to be next in line as OC

I dont know enough about him.

Daboll was on the Pats staff as an assistant (mostly wide receiver coach) during the early* Super Bowl years. When Charlie Weis left, he was passed up for the OC role in favor of McDaniels. He wasn't completely happy about that, and was the only Patriots staff member who followed Mangini to the Jets, which put him out of BB's graces. Eventually was offensive coordinator with Mangini in Cleveland and subsequently spent a year each in that role in Miami and Kansas City. Then he and BB made up and he's been back since 2013. It's generally an open secret that he'll be McDaniels' replacement when the time comes.

Of course, the issue is that Daboll's offenses weren't really that good in his 4 years as coordinator. On the other hand, neither was McDaniels' in St. Louis. Daboll's QBs were Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, Jake Delhomme, Senaca Wallace, Colt McCoy, Chad Henne, and Matt Cassel. So it's kind of hard to judge his performance based on numbers alone given that QB crew (although we do know McDaniels had great success with Cassel, but the Chiefs didn't have Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Matt Light, Logan Mankins, et al either).

* nice that we get to qualify it as "early" Super Bowl seasons now! :D

The Eagles will never win because of their fans and the city. I live in Philadelphia and these are the people that rode Andy Reid out of town. Kelly's first year was good because of all the players left behind from Andy Reid. Eagles fans will turn on a dime and will demand changes like they actually know what they are talking about. Laurie felt this and did what the fans wanted.

As soon as the owner used words such as "emotional intelligence" I knew they were screwed.

2015/2016 : feelings count so so much. Hey Lurie : just get a winner. Screw emotional intelligence. That is just baby speak for "I can't take being treated like an adult". Stupid. Maybe Kelly isn't the answer - but finding some touchy feely coach isn't going to help either.

BB listens. To men. To adults. Treats them as such. He doesn't need to coddle the players. And they love him for it. Even those he shipped elsewhere (eventually).
You misconstrue the meaning of emotional intelligence. It is a valuable skill that, as a society, we neglect to teach our children. Emotional intelligence is about being aware of emotions, and consistently experiencing the appropriate emotion within a reasonable range in all kinds of situations. Our society teaches that we should avoid and/or bury our "negative" emotions and strive to constantly be "happy" whether genuine or chemically induced.
