Wanted to throw this out there as a topic of discussion as I think it's an interesting one.

As I understand it, BB is paid $7.5m annually.

The highest paid coach is Sean Payton @ $8m annually.

Some numbers to chew on...

Since 2000 the value of the Patriots has increased 560% ($571m to $3.2b)

Since 2000, the average franchise value has increased 436% ($435m to $1.9b)

Clearly TV contracts, business partnerships & licencing have a lot to do with overall team value increasing.

If the Patriots' franchise value increased at the league average pace, it would sit current at $2.49b (Note: the average of the top "big" markets is $2.52b)

Does winning equal an additional $700m in franchise valuation (for argument's sake, let say yes)?

I'm not sure there would be a Patriot Place either. Not sure what the revenue stream is for that.

So.....if you are an owner and your franchise sucks and you sign off on robertweathers math, what do you pay BB as your coach?

I'll start @ $10m and offer X % bonus based on revenue and valuation increasing.

Thoughts?

We don't know how much Bill Belichick is paid. That number is only an estimate and it's probably quite low.

If he hit the market as a "free agent" or if the Patriots were somehow able to "trade" him to another team, it would be huge.

Well judging by several owners comments Bill wouldn't get any offers because teams are above getting down in the mud he brings to a franchise with all that cheating he does

I think he would get a 5 yr deal worth 10Mill a year and be named President of Football ops/GM/Head Coach.

And I think all 31 other teams would put word out that the job is available, even with current coach still in that job.

Curious where the $7.5m number is coming from since I'm pretty sure we are all kept in the dark about BB's contract.

This is too painful to think about, I just want to remain in my spoiled little world where the Patriots are SB contenders every year.

The only time it seemed like a possibility that he would leave was during 2007 with all the turmoil the media was churning out. It took a lot of testicular fortitude by Kraft to look at reality and not give in to public outcry to replace him, and instead signed on for multiple years.

At this point, I dont think BB would have it in him to go to a team like Miami and try and turn around an entire culture.

i dont think 20mil is too much, and I imagine many teams would love the opportunity to give that out.

Right up until he becomes a a free agent, and then every single one of them would open the bank vault doors and say 'Load up, Bill.'

If BB was a free agent I would cry because there is no way that more than 1 of the other 31 teams out there would offer him the sun and moon to come coach their team. So even though I am complaining about his OT call in other threads, I don't really mean it BB, honest.

If BB is a free agent, I might probably stop watching the NFL.

The bidding would be astronomical and BB could write his own ticket (I think $10 million per year opens the bidding). The problem for Bill is that the guys for whom money is no object and who would let their ego override any semblance of common sense are the very same guys he would not consider working for under any circumstances (e.g., Jerruh, Dan Synder to name two).

The conversation would be....What Ever You Want Bill.........$20 mill per season....easily.
Billionaires people....Billionaires
In an industry making massive profits
Owners who not only measure their worth in $$$....but in prestige....and trophies = prestige. Why is Bob Kraft the only owner in NE that has "Mr." attached to his name.
Jerry Jones would be doing the Texas Two Step on top of the bar at the next owners meeting if he owned himself some BB.
Imagine if BB acted like Parcells...always grasping for more...more $$...more power.....even ownership. BB would be on his 4th team in 15 years and likely owning 10% of a franchise .....if not even a bigger chunk.
Billionaires!

Interesting topic. Here's a thought--taking his age into account, is he the most valuable individual in the NFL? Meaning, if all players, owners, GMs, etc. are available, do you draft him first?

Feels like a slam dunk yes to me...

I don't have a link since its been awhile since I've seen it, but I know I've read more than one place that he's the highest-paid coach in the NFL. True or not? I don't know.
