David Price Red Sox Era Begins

Having seen him for only a few months as a jays fan, there is a lot to like, and a lot to question. I think he truly doesn't care what people think of him which will help him in boston, but he has also been pretty open about his lack of focus on fitness/diet. Those guys always terrify me when you talk about heavy innings and age mixing.

By seasons end, he was being usurped as our top starter by a 24yr old coming off ACL surgery in spring training.

It was inevitable he would get an offer like this, and even with the jays swimming in money, the playoff performances solidified his fate with Toronto.

Didn't really understand the Sandoval and Ramirez signings at the time, and they ended up being pretty stupid. Hopefully this one has better results. If you could only move one, who would you choose: Sandoval or Ramirez?

Baseball players laugh at the contracts football players get lol.

There's no, "um... we made a mistake giving you that 7 year deal so after 2 years so we're either forcing you to take a massive pay cut or we cut you from the roster" in MLB

It's all guaranteed

So wrong. Go check a Cubs forum.

I don't need to check a Cubs forum. I have eyes and a brain. For example:

Lester got off to a terrible start, yet still finished in the top 15 in ERA. If you take away just his 4 April starts as an adjustment period, he ends up in the top 10.

Worst.ROI.Ever.

I'd move Ramirez for a bag of balls. He is a total do-nothing.

As long as Sandoval loses 30lbs and stops surfing Instagram for large breasted women while taking the kids to the pool (allegedly) he actually might be a .280 15 75 guy who plays a solid defensive 3b.

Dombrowski's guy from Detroit

Think I would have to agree with you there, although I don't think I can really fault Panda for looking at large-breasted women on Instagram. Have you been on Instagram? That's like 90% of the content.

I'm not down on the Castillo deal yet. If he can be .280 25 80 for the next 3 years thats fine.

If not the deal sucks.
Yeah, Castillo remains to be seen. I like him as a player.

Ramirez. No brainer.

Now over-pay for another good pitcher, and let your young talent surface to full blossom.

6-1, 1.95 era at Fenway in 11 starts.

Whatever, it isn't my money so I don't really care how much they paid. They did need a top tier pitcher and they seemed to of got one so we'll see how it goes.

I'd love to see Kung Fu Panda get the fook out of town. I wouldn't even mind if they paid every cent of what he is owed as long as we don't have to see him disgrace the big B anymore. That Porkins comment I'm still laughing about. That was over the top out there, but damn funny.

I've always believed that a lot of the Red Sox apparent reluctance about signing Jon Lester long-term was related to possible concerns about his long-term health. While that's an awful way to view the situation, it's always been a hunch of mine. To reiterate, it's just a hunch and I've neither read not heard anything to support that hunch.

Lester was never signing in Boston. The Cubs had the inside track and the money to get it done.

That's not entirely true. IIRC They made him an offer in the beginning of the 2014 season of 4 years 70 million which of course was complete BS. They could have probably had him at 5 yrs 110 million.

But after that you're right in that Boston was never going to match the Cubs.

I'm going to disagree with all of you and say Sandoval. Pablo's body type has historically not held up well once the player ages. And his defense was never that great to begin with, and will only get worse as he stays out of shape.

Yes, Ramirez' defense is horrible. But he could always hit (his entire career pre-Boston was spent in two of the three most pitcher-friendly parks). He hit last year, too, until he got a wrist injury - which is the worst short-term injury a hitter can get as it saps their power until they get fully healthy (think Nomar 2001 and Griffey Jr in 1995). He has the athlete's body type that tends to age better. The team will have an opening at DH in 2017, and he's a reasonable option there. See if he can play 1st base this year where his issues can be minimized.

I would be happiest getting rid of both of them like the 2012 mega salary dump, but if only one can be done, that's my choice and explanation.

You CAN'T hate it. Its impossible. It's a 3 year deal for all intents and purposes. 3/90 ish.

Yes please. And I'll take another too.

I think there's some confusion about the opt out

If he's great - he opts out to demand more money from the Sox or elsewhere and it's a 3 year contract

If he sucks - then it's 7 years $217 million

That being said, I don't particularly care if the Red Sox ownership group takes a bath in years 5-7 if they get the same production out of him that he's consistently given throughout his career

Forget about the money for a second (as unlike football we can in baseball) and just consider that the Sox got THE best starter on the market - and one who has consistently averaged a 3.0 ERA in playing against the same competition he'll face in the AL East for the Sox against DH hitters no less

Paying less for any of the others out there who all have big question marks would be a higher potential waste of money in my opinion

But you didn't address the large-breasted women factor, your argument is incomplete.

Does this end the Price Ortiz feud?
