romo lmao get a grip.

What a convincing counter argument!

Ohh you've edited it.

It seems as if your definition of elite has more to do with overall team performance than QBs. QBs don't just take their teams to the playoffs every year by themselves.

im sorry I hurt your feelings. romo lmao get a grip. elite QB's go to the playoffs on a regular basis and win some games. how many playoff games has Romo won? your definition of elite is a lot different than mine. some of the following aren't elite but they are better than Romo. Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers drew Breese Peyton manning Philip rivers matt Ryan ben rapelessburger cam newton Russel Wilson. even luck is better. Romo is a interception machine. and he throws them at the worst possible times. he's a choker. how many times has he ripped your heart out? be honest. when things get tight and its nut crunching time. Romo's balls shrink and he pees himself.

Not sure if serious.

False

Romo only threw 9 INTS last season and completed 70% of his throws. Brady threw 9 INTS. Brees threw 17. Romos controversial pass to Bryant vs GB was clutch. You can say that Romo had Bryant and Murray. OK, Brady has Belichick and Kraft.

This season was going to put Romo on the map. He really has grown as a QB.

Historically speaking, Romo has averaged a QB rating somewhere right around 96, (last time I checked) which is almost identical to Brady.

Is he "elite?" No. Not at all. Is he a top 10 NFL quarterback? Absolutely. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the postseason wins that often come from a more complete team, but talent-wise, I'd take him over someone like Joe Flacco any day of the week.

I disagree with the poster's idea that Romo is elite, but I also think he's better than you're suggesting.

Putting guys such as Cam Newton and Matt Ryan on your list really waters down your argument.

I also think that you have an incorrect idea of who Romo is currently, because I haven't seen these choke-jobs that you're referencing. He's got one of the highest QB ratings in the month of December in the history of football, and we've seen him lead his team to some very dramatic comebacks, most recently in the week prior to his injury.

There was a point where he made some erratic decisions way too often, but I think he's grown pretty nicely--if we're being completely fair.

I'd have him in my top 10, but that's where it ends. Frankly though, being in the top 25% or so of NFL quarterbacks isn't too shabby.

He is, but as you can see, it isn't necessarily a majority opinion around here.

The conversation could benefit from a shared definition of "elite." Around here, the word is generally used in a historical context...Unitas, Montana, Staubach, etc...so there aren't many that get the label in any given year.

The mediots drum up internet clicks with a broad list like "the 2015 ten elite QB's" which means that the top 1/3 are elite. That'll never fly on Pats.com.

Sorry, we can't let you guys win. We're in a toe-to-toe race with the Broncos (4-0) for the #1 seed. We do not, I repeat, do not want to be in Denver for the playoffs
U afraid of Denver in Denver, where Ravens and Vikings almost upset them?

Bingo. All trash talking aside, the bristling at "elite" is just a matter of definition. Everybody in this thread acknowledges a current tier 1A of Brady and Rodgers. For most of us, that's where the TeamElite2015 ends.

But moving to the group of "other top QBs," Romo absolutely belongs in the discussion. My group would probably be Romo, Wilson, Roethlisberger and the broken shells of Manning and Brees, with the order up for argument. If I were a Cowboys fan I'd argue that Romo has been playing as well as any of them for the past year. If I were a fan of any of the other teams I'd point out that he's the only QB on the list without a ring.

Romo is a very good quarterback.

He is not elite. The word elite is bandied about far too frequently. Every flash in the pan player who strings a few good games together is being hyped as elite now. There are two or three elite players in every position per generation. Players who are one of the top two or three at their position over a prolonged period of time, 5+ years, and are a cut above the next level. It's very hard to be that much better that consistently, that's why it's called elite. The only elite QB's over the past 10-15 years are Brady, Manning and Rogers. Favre, Romo, Rivers, Roethlisburger etc aren't on that level.

Bingo

Brady has had better teams around him thanks to Brady himself for not being greedy like Drew Brees sucking up all the cap space and thanks to BB and to an owner like Bob Kraft who doesn't think that he is an NFL GM.

Howdy Blueberry,

Welcome and thank you for a good opening post. Always great to see opposing football fans on here with a little insight into the upcoming festivities.

Tell your fans to leave the "cheater" signs at home. It's not wise to piss off Brady more than he already is.
Best wishes for no injuries this week to all.

I Concur!

97/108 for 219 yards and a score would be epic. Had a good laugh at that. Welcome to the board and thanks for the rabies caution.

Yeah, he's serious. We do a lot of statistical comparisons around here, usually focused on post-season performance. Our favorite parlor game is Manning - Brady comparisons which is where the stark reality is most obvious.

Romo doesn't even figure in the post-season discussion at 2-4 (tied with Jack Kemp, Chad Pennington, Jake Plummer and Jeff Garcia.) Contemporaries Flacco and Roethlisberger are both 10-5 in the playoffs. Eli Manning is 8-3. (Peyton Manning is a choker at 11-13 in the playoffs. At least Romo is tied with Manning in the playoffs at two games under .500.)

Romo is right there (#4) with the career leaders in TD/INT ratio at 253/114 including his six playoff games. Aaron Rogers is other worldly as the leader in that stat: http://www.footballdb.com/leaders/career-passing-tdintratio

Romo's good. But he's got to go deep in the playoffs consistently to be considered elite.

Vent (not at you - to the Patriots fan over there)
Reading the first few posts, I've got to say, I really hate when people go to other boards and say crap like (paraphrasing here) "the fanbase is arrogant but I'm not like that...". I hate it when people badmouth the country, badmouth a sitting president to foreigners, and yes, teams that they associate with as if whatever problems that occur in their little world aren't happening everywhere.

I hear crap like this all of the time and I'm not a "if you don't like it, leave" type of person but I really find it distasteful and insulting to the group you belong. Whether that be a team, country, political party, family, whatever.

I love watching Dallas games....I love watching JESTs games.
I guess I just love watching train wrecks.
When the camera pans to GM Jerry the Groper in his sky box....or when Back-Slappin Jerry has forced his way onto the sidelines....I thank our lucky stars every second that Kraft had the good sense to give full control to Belichick from day one. I could not stomach what you Dallas fans have been forced to endure....a rich guy dabbling in his hobby.. Jerry Jones breaks every rule as we, the NE fan, have been taught by our hoodie leader. Rule #1.....SHUT UP. Giving daily pressers on the greatness of his players........my god what a fool. But he can't help himself. Sure ...Jerry is passionate and he cares....and that's better than 75% of the owners....but the rest of his act is counter productive to winning. I do think Jerry has made baby steps in the right direction which has to be encouraging for the faithful...but even still.....Romo will never be elite despite those gaudy numbers last year and the coaching/scheme, though fundamentally sound, is still "basic" when compared to advanced operations like NE. Over the years, there have been games where Brady will whisper to certain mediots "where going to kill 'em"....and Brady is not being ****y, he just knows that NE destroys "basic" scheming. Some teams do what they do and nothing else...and NE feasts on these guys...because Belichick creates teams that can adapt. NE thrives in the regular season because of their ability to transform week in week out.........few teams can say that....and certainly not Jason Garet's team.
PS....because Jerry mouthed off about Deflategate / League-Sting Failure, expect Brady/BB/Kraft to make a national example of these Cowgirls. Time to take the medicine. Jerry better tighten up his face because crying wrinkles never look good on camera. :)

There aren't many other teams I find myself rooting for outside of the Patriots, but I have a bit of a soft spot for the Cowboys and the Saints. Don't know why.
