Patriots "Actively" looking to trade for Big Bodied WR

Not open for further replies.
4 receivers is way too light for the first 5 weeks.
All we need is some punk to head hunt Julian.
Plus do we really trust that Danny A and Dobson can hold up for 5 straight weeks?
Not to mention a 180 poound rookie?
We need to add one or two oversized receivers one to active roster the other to the practice squad.

How does this happen or be practical?
1. There's very little time to get ROI on someone before the receiving corps is at full strength (5 games).
2. It'll take any player a few games to get close to getting on the same page with the offense and Brady, so this doesn't really help win the first couple of games
3. There's no money, so it'll have to be a player who is playing very well and has a very cheap contract (and why would a team trade a player like that?), or...
4. One of the Pats' current players with a large contract goes in the trade. Who might that be? Solder, at $7M this year and then a FA?

Would love it if they sign Tre McBride but he probably doesn't give any immediate relief. My second choice would be Marquess Wilson from the Bears - he might not be available owing to the Kevin White injury but I was a fan of his coming out of college.

One final very wishful thinking thought. Trade Dobson and a 4th to the Bengals for Marvin Jones (still one of my favourite draft prospects ever).

I love Welker, but his time has passed. I wished he'd retire for whatever health he may have left.

Welker in 6 inch lifts wearing a concussion helmet? The helmet alone adds 4 inches...
but the helmet made me think of this.

A couple of names:

Bills cut 7th pick Dezmin Lewis (#234 2015) 6-4 214 C. Arkansas
Jets cut Shaquelle Evans (#115 2014) 6-1 204 UCLA
Browns cut Vince Mayle (#123 2015) 6-3 220 Washington St.

Randy Moss did say in an interview at the joint practices in west va that "he'd like to say he's retired for good.... but actually " and walked away. :)

Didn't he outrun some WR's there?

There is no one the Patriots can sign who will be of help this season. The player has to learn the most complex O of any in the game and get on the same page with Brady. Not happening in season.

2 possibilities for immediate help

Kimberly, familiar with system and Brady
Moss familiar with system and Brady

I don' see either happening.

I would inquire about Brian Quick in St. Louis. He's almost fully back from his injury and he looked very good at times last year. He is the #2 receiver behind Kenny Britt there, though, but that team has some other holes that perhaps Bill could assist with via trade.

Anquan Boldin probably has a couple good years left, but he's probably Kaepernick's top target. Michael Floyd could be a possibility considering John Brown has been on fire there of late. I wonder what the price would be on Marques Colston in NO... This might turn some people off but I wonder if Chip would trade Riley Cooper.

ESPN would bring back Rob Parker just to call Patriots racists.

Rob Parker finally had his dream job, doing local sports in Detroit. If he's fortunate he may be able to parlay it into the sports anchor position in Provo down the road. His career trajectory is truly something to behold.... Trashing Brady has really paid off for him.

Anquan Boldin probably has a couple good years left,

2015 Base: $5,500,000
2015 Game-day roster bonuses: $500,000 (total)
2015 Cap figure: $8,727,500

What's your proposal for how to make this work? In other words, what would you offer the 49ers that they couldn't refuse, and that would provide the Pats with the necessary cap relief?

I also just noticed James Jones is a free agent along with Hakeem Nicks... Both of them seem like they don't have much tread left but wouldn't hurt to kick the tires.

I also agree with @manxman2601 that I sincerely hope Bill put in a waiver claim on Tre McBride.

Holy smokes, I didn't realize Boldin made that much dough. I would say that's a non-starter then.

I think rookie Rj Harris from UNH is still hanging around out there. He had a terrific Sr. season with 100 catches, 1551 yards and 15 TD's +2 scores on the ground. 6-0 203. Great kid from all accounts. Saints cut him at the 75. Some guys have McBride as their binkie, This kid was mine. Saw him 3 times last year at Cowell Stadium in Durham. Kinda had a David Givens kind of feel and toughness, but faster.

Love to see him get a shot here even on the PS, unless he's been picked up and I missed it.
I remember Givens frequently running the wrong routes. I was at the Pats -Skins game in DC when we lost our last game before going on the record unbeaten streak. Two Brady interceptions were to spots where Givens was supposed to be. I agree Givens was tough, but I have a negative association with him that you might not have. Of course the Titans have millions of reasons to have negative associations with Givens.

hmmmm... anyone heard of Marquess Wilson?

One name I may see is Bears WR Marquess Wilson. 7th round pick, second to last year on his deal, 6'4", 22 years old, no real NFL production.

Adam Bogdan ‏@PatriotsInform 54m54 minutes ago
The Bears were high on him but he's been injured and has fallen out of favor it would seem. I think a reasonable 5/6th round pick may do it.

Adam Bogdan ‏@PatriotsInform 50m50 minutes ago
Well this is interesting: Wilson had one of the top 3 cone drills of his combine WR class at 6.65s, ran a 4.51 40, and a 34.5" vertical.

Adam Bogdan ‏@PatriotsInform 49m49 minutes ago
Belichick values the 3 cone drill above all else at the combine. So maybe this would be a good match. They do need DL help. Traded w/them b4

If we had serious interest in Mcbride then we would of made a low level trade vs letting him be released and subject to waivers.

We may Justill bring KenBrell back but if it's a trade it's going to be for a legitimate deep threat.
Who can pick up a playbook so it will be a established vet with a injury concern and or contract looming.
You have to think like BB also little to no off field concerns.
One last go with Randy makes sense he is a freak still and may be in better shape with a few years of not getting hit.
If we wanted him I'm sure Tom would lobby for him if Randy comes back its here and only here.
Would love to see him get that Lombardi how magical would it be?

Would be happy taking fliers on Wilson and or Lewis, Brandon Coleman would be nice.
See BB this is why you draft a receiver instead of a undersized unathletic safety.

Yep @manxman2601 mentioned him a few posts up. I would be on board with that one.
