Patriots sign TE Fred Davis

Classic low-risk high-reward move by the Pats.

Conversion to slot corner...

So many... TEs...

Funny how a couple years ago there was such mass hysteria to draft/sign all available TEs. Now they're loaded at TE. Too bad this year there's mass hysteria to draft/sign all available CBs. They do need CB help, just sayin'.

IMO, let Wright slim back down 10-15lbs and transition BACK to WR, as he was at Rutgers, and use any gained agility and speed to compete for WR 4/5 spot. Roll with Gronk, Chandler, and Davis at TE with Devlin as the FB/TE role.

Hooman is the oddman out as he is a subpar receiver and blocker, or atleast he was last season, he seemed to regress rather than improve.

I believe that Wright can produce more as a 4th/5th target whether he is called a WR or TE than the likes of Gibson or anyone else in the logjam for that position. Dobson is the biggest wildcard due to his talent but he also has the most to prove right now.

Can he play corner too? :D

All kidding aside, the guy has some skills, so nothing wrong with taking a flyer. Worst case he's camp fodder and gets released. The 2 TE sets should be something though. Power packages with 3 TE's will leave defenses with a lot to worry about.

His contract also doesn't help him. $1,4m freed up in cap space if he is cut.

No need for Hooman anymore ...
he could only catch passes for when designated as an eligible receiver ...
no more trick plays
Competition Committee and all that!

Chandler
Davis
Wright

All receiving tight ends who are poor blockers. Davis is the best of the bunch, but OHOH and Gronk are still the only TEs on the roster who can block.

We have not one starting-caliber LG on the roster, our CB situation is a steaming pile of poo,
The opportunity to add quality options at WR & RB via the draft was not addressed, we are
less athletic now than we were at season's end, but hey great signing Bill; whenever someone
asked me what else we needed to add during the off-season, the first thought that always came
to mind was Fred Davis.

Not totally serious with my earlier post.

The more competition the better. In all honesty, Davis is probably on the outside looking in until he shows enough in Training Camp. For whatever deficiencies the public sees in Hooman, he has shown he knows the system and can contribute enough to have survived a couple of seasons in New England. It remains to be seen if that streak continues.

I guess he's worth a look.

Pats seemingly going more towards "move" TEs. I wonder whether Shaq Mason, along with bigger bodies in the slot, will be taking over some of Hooman's role in the run game while allowing greater versatility in the passing game. I think Hooman may be next on the chopping block....

He seems like kind of a POS if he's got multiple incidents of domestic violence and a DUI...smoking weed is one thing, but he's a little more advanced than that in the mischief department I think. Hasn't even produced that much in the league. His best season was just shy of 800 yards, and his second best season was 509. I think he'll be cut at some point in the preseason unless he looks great.

If Dennard is any indication, hard work and dedication > talent (at least to a point).

This is a no risk signing with nothing but upside if he can still play while keeping his nose clean and staying awake in meetings. If not then he's gone.

I like Wright and hope he sticks this season. The only possible place for Derby is the practice squad; he's only played TE for one season.
