Sign Terrance Newman for one side and Charles Tillman on the other.

George Allen would love that duo.

Love how someone 'disliked' this. How is it not true?
Seriously, you're that worried about what someone thinks ?

I DISLIKED it. I didn't DISAGREE.

We all know the second round CB has been a problem. I agree. However that can't stop us from trying again. I hope there's a CB worthy of our first round pick. If not, if there's a good one in round two I would take him and try to do better. Not be scared away based on past failures. We need an influx of talent, whatever round it's in.

what was the name of that corner we had on the roster at the beginning of the year but we just had too many good players so we had to cut him?

i think he was a 2nd year player last year so should be going into 3rd year rght now, and he showed promise in preseason last year...

bring that kid back
The New England Patriots currently have 7 cornerbacks under contract:

Arrington
Dennard
Ryan
Chekwa
Butler
Green
Swanson

I think he'd have preferred the opposite, since it doesn't negatively count against his rating.

Disgarees are fine--everyone disagrees. The big red "X" that comes with the dislikes pisses people off. I've never even used it myself, and most of us don't. It's just an unwritten rule that we've seemed to agree upon.

I'm just pointing out the differences, since you may not know, that's all.

The simple fact of the matter is that $16 million a year over the next three years is out of line with the top of the CB market, which had been firmly set at $14 million a year. The Jets average cap number for their new CB is $16 million a year for 2015, 2016, 2017. That's stupid. They were bidding against themselves. Nobody else was going there.

LOL, he can dislike mine, I don't care about such things. I just dislike the idea of never drafting a 2nd round CB based on past failures.

I'm just pointing out the differences, and explaining why he likely questioned the negative mark, that's all. Just like anything else, some care--and some don't.

Unfortunately, this silly ratings system doesn't take into account that someone may "dislike" the idea, which causes some confusion. Sorry to have interrupted you. I just wanted to explain the difference.

While I agree with you that the extra two million for the first two years is out of line with current pacts, it evens out in the middle, and benefits/protects the Jets in the final two years.

I'm not sure that we've seen another example of a 30 year old high priced CB lately who warranted being paid at the top of the market, so this is what it was likely going to take to get that "14 million AAV" and 40 guaranteed that he wanted---and we all know why he wanted that due to Sherman's numbers.

It was a bit of a "different" deal, understanding that they'd likely want to protect themselves when he's 34 and 35 (if he ever reaches that). As you've said though, it could be a 3 year deal. Then again, they may see great benefits by only having to pay 11m dollar cap hits when the cap is up around 175+ million dollars in four and five years down the road. We just don't know.

The league's best CB is getting paid as the league's best CB. One would expect such a player to make more than the players below him, if the deals were signed at the same time. In this case, it's a deal signed a year later, with a cap that had jumped $10 million dollars in that time. Most expected Revis' deal would come in above the $14m, many expected it would be about $16m, and even the guaranteed money was in line with what was being discussed prior to his signing.

Bashing the Revis deal is just sour grapes.

The problem is, this year, every team needs good CBs. That is the single reason for keeping Revis + Browner. Their price tags were reasonable, and not outrageous. They had the cap and $$. We would not have gotten to the "deperate-level" and looking at the bottom of the barrel candidates..

IMO

What Revis signed for with the Jets isn't what he would have cost us, most likely. He may have preferred them, all else equal, and the Jets could have sweetened their offer.

The only way the Pats could have ensured keeping Revis was by exercising their option.

We don't know the truth for certain, but reports say otherwise.

Or, as the multiple reports suggested, he may have preferred staying here with the chance to win another SB--as long as the money was similar.

Unfortunately for us, we'll never really know, but it doesn't seem as though the money the Jets were offering was similar to what N.England was offering. If it had, it may have been a different story.

Sorry, didn't mean to repeat your thoughts. This is a case of typing at the same time.

terrence newman is 40 years old.
lol come on belichick.

Again....I don't pretend to know more than I know...which is not a lot....but BB has his method and he has ALWAYS shown an ability to make poop smell like roses. There has to be something...something he see and the staff sees to even want to have any free agent (good or bad) to visit. As the old saying goes....in BB I trust!

I don't want any of these terrible corners. Terrance Newman was benched for Dre Kirkpatrick who hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire. Fletcher is terrible and was often burned last season along with Robert McClain. Tarell Brown flashed potential at one point with the 49ers, but that ship has sailed.

The only place the Patriots might find a starting caliber corner with NFL experience is through a trade. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a team in the league who will part with one. And even if that were to change I'm sure the price would be fairly high both in terms of draft picks and salary.

I think these guys would be for depth and veteran leadership. Dennard and Ryan will be our starting corners, with Butler getting plenty of playing time as well. There are no FA corners worth signing as starters. It is what it is. The Revis and Browner ships have sailed, and the more we realize we are going with what we have, the better.

What about someone like Charles Tillman. He's been injured the last two years but was an all pro his last full year, I'd rather buy low on someone like that, downside is he's getting up there in age.

Why the **** are so many of you enamored by a player's age? If it's a short term deal and the player is still playing to a reasonable level, who cares if they're 62?

Look at the player and their production not their age.
