Ray Rice wins appeal; free agent can now sign with any NFL team

Really? I know plenty of people who were physically disciplined growing up and they turned out just fine.

And I spent years working with kids who were abused and many went on to have significant problems as the years went on. Anyone who thinks that beating kids is a good way to keep them from beating others is significantly misguided. Teaching a child that smacking someone is the way to keep them in line is a recipe for that child eventually smacking their women or children, and the fact that Peterson was abused the same way supports that.

Down vote my posts all you want, I'll be the one laughing when you don't discipline your kids and they grow up to be knocking their fiances out in elevators.

Great thing to "laugh" at.

Right ... and how many of those kids were abused because their parents were actually child abusers and not parents who once in the blue moon took a switch to their kid for discipline reasons?

The talk about Peterson being a "child abuser" is really overblown.

The fact that people actually consider that worse than blowing up your fiance in an elevator is beyond me.

Let me get this straight: Beating a child is equal to beating a female adult? Followed up with your defense that you know plenty of people who turned out ok from beatings.
Oh and by the way, Peterson lost a son (death) only a few years ago to physical abuse.

I don't think you have to forgive Peterson's behavior to say Rice is scum. Unfortunately, corporal punishment is accepted in much of the world and it's more the severity we're talking about.

No excuse for throwing a left hook at a woman in an elevator period, especially when you are a physical professional athlete.

Was spanked as a child, have never abused a woman or anyone else for that matter.

Speaking in absolutes for how some people choose to discipline their children and the consequences thereof is a foolish endeavor.

A lot of people act as if Peterson does this on the daily, he disciplined his kid and went overboard a bit, I even said he shouldn't of hit him that hard. But to label him a "child abuser" is a bit dramatic if you ask me.

What Rice did is far worse imo because Peterson could have the belief that what he was doing was a constructive benefit to his son in the long run. His thinking however flawed in your opinion may have not originated from a place of malice, whereas Rice isn't knocking his wife out for her benefit or tutelage.

Goodell had nothing to do with this; the judge/arbitrator essentially ruled that the "new evidence" did not, in fact, constitute any sort of evidence of new wrongdoing for which the NFL could impose harsher discipline.

Ok, but the point you are making about 'new' evidence implies that therefore the judge found that she doesn't believe go-to-hell that it was in fact new, ipso facto she thinks he lied.... Oh waitress, Can I please get a perjury charge here with grounds to dismiss without compensation on the side?

Actually I couldn't care less about Ray Rice. If he was a normal citizen he would be in jail, this guy got off because of who he is.

I hope and pray a team doesn't sign him this year.

I don't care about what the NFL did or didnt do because this is all on Ray Rice and the lack of morality by the DA. The big thing the NFL screwed up here was not giving out an appropriate punishment from the start. While I don't like this Rice character he shouldn't have been punished twice. Public perception is pretty powerful though.

I dont think anyone believes that no one should discipline a child. Any time you have to use a weapon on someone helpless, that NOT discipline..thats abuse.

Whipping a kid so hard it leaves welts and likely scars is abuse, and it is in no way comparable to spanking a kid on the ass. And no, I don't think every person who was ever spanked becomes abusive.

A rare sighting of an actual idiot. Everyone, get your cameras ready this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

He took a switch to his kid because he was acting out and cursing at his siblings (and probably a lot more too). You act as if this has never been done before. Should he have been a little lighter on the hits? Sure, but it's not like there were waterfalls of blood flowing.

Ray Rice knocked his fiance out in a public elevator and then dragged her out like she was an animal.

Who do you think is the changed man here?

Neither. When I first heard about Rice I assumed it was a really big mistake on his part and more of a momentary lapse, however when I saw just how indifferent he was while she was out cold I realized it was more likely a common occurrence because I cannot imagine anyone responding that way if it wasn't. She could have been dead for all he knew but he acted like her unconsciousness was inconveniencing him. What a POS.

Peterson doesn't think he did anything wrong, he is just saying what he has to.

Dude, "went overboard a bit"? Imagine that you are Adrian Peterson, your son DIED as a result of being disciplined. Are you telling me that your going to discipline another son by hitting him? Me, I'm sending the kid to his room.

I wouldn't hit my kids to begin with, I never once said I would, I would use other ways of discipline. My parents have been hit before with a switch, I have been hit before with a switch, my GF has been hit before with a switch, and I know many people who have been hit before with a switch, however a parent wants to discipline then that's up to them. Yes, he went overboard, but it's not a rare occurrence for a kid to be beaten with a switch.

How do you know he died by discipline? The guy has a track record of ABUSE and even received a kidnapping and assault charge for attacking the mother after the death of Peterson's son, just do a quick google search of him. The child also had severe HEAD injuries .... that's not "discipline". When you look at his past and how the child passed away, it's safe to say the guy is a real piece of **** and it goes far beyond "discipline".

Children are pretty resilient, as are women. This may be the most violent free generation of humans of all time. Violence is merely something most westerners read about or see on TV, not a part of life like it has been for much of history.

It's not clear that this lack of violence has created superior humans, that we are "better" or able to deal with life easier than our parents, and their parents.

Women, it's said are especially susceptible to some emotional toll. At least I assume because people aren't concerned about the much more prevalent violence against men. But again, I'm not convinced, sans data that women are especially lacking in the emotional ability to deal with violence.

AP has 7 kids from 7 different women. It is reported that he sees each kid roughly once a month if that. In some cases, it was reported that he sees them once every 6 months. In such a situation, physical discipline has little impact.

Ray Rice is a punk. If anybody thinks that video was the first time or the lasts time he hits a women, you are a fool...

Rice won, as he should have. Goodell got smacked down, as he should have.

From ESPN's pull of the decision:

"In this arbitration, the NFL argues that Commissioner Goodell was misled when he disciplined Rice the first time. Because, after careful consideration of all of the evidence, I am not persuaded that Rice lied to, or misled, the NFL at his June interview, I find that the indefinite suspension was an abuse of discretion and must be vacated," Jones' decision stated.

"I find that the NFLPA carried its burden of showing that Rice did not mislead the Commissioner at the June 16th meeting, and therefore, that the imposition of a second suspension based on the same incident and the same known facts about the incident, was arbitrary," Jones also wrote.

"The Commissioner needed to be fair and consistent in his imposition of discipline.

"Moreover, any failure on the part of the League to understand the level of violence was not due to Rice's description of the event but to the inadequacy of words to convey the seriousness of domestic violence. That the League did not realize the severity of the conduct without a visual record also speaks to their admitted failure in the past to sanction this type of conduct more severely."

Y'all can get back to arguing insensibly about both cases, now.

So Goodell is required by law to be fair and consistent now? Is that retroactive?

Seriously, he shouldn't be involved in cases like this anyway. Rice should have had a jury trial in NJ with his peers watching him sucker punch his wife into unconsciousness when he thought he was not being viewed.
