Rodney Holds the Pats Accountable

I don't think anyone is saying that Harrison wasn't a great player for the patriots, simply that he has no business pointing fingers when he could have sealed the deal for them.

No ones perfect Ivan, but considering how many times he did seal the deal for us, he's just as qualified as anybody to point fingers.

I just think its unfair that a player who had a major part in us getting to 3 SB's (Winning 2) is only remembered for the one play he didn't come up with, as opposed to the many he did come up with.

Am I the only who's starting to get the feeling we're going 19-0 this year?

How many teams win Superbowls with their biggest stars on IR? The Patriots at least get there like that. Nobody is going to say Rodney is absolutely wrong here, but a little context needs to be added to the conversation.

If Gronk isn't obviously debilitated in the 2011 season Superbowl, we win that championship.
He was injured again in 2012 before the AFC Championship.

Last year was an injury nightmare.

2008 Brady missed the season.

We know what happened in 2006 and 2007.

That leaves 2009 and 2010, which really aren't seasons I would consider missed opportunities.

I just hear him saying that players should strive to be the best. I'm pretty sure he would not exclude himself as being accountable. He never did when he was playing.

I can show you one from last year:

Dez Bryant
Looks like he caught it with 2 hands to me.

Again, Harrison is (or at least was) one of my favorite Patriots of all time.
That said, I've soured on him a lot since he started his broadcasting career. I wonder if he has resentment towards Brady and the quarterback position for getting such praise for Superbowl championships.

The dude has gone out of his way to attack Brady on national television ("Take off the skirt, Tom" or "Eli is the best QB in football" - Rodney, 2012)

He's the only ex-Patriot to be anti-Patriot and anti-Tom on National Television. Everyone else is still wearing their jersey beneath their suit jacket.

Your post really puts things into perspective.

I disagree with you on one thing though. The best team always ends up winning it all. They won it all didn't they? That makes them the best team that season.;)

Technically, yes ;) But you'll never get me to say those Giants were the best team that year. I'm not even sure they were one of the top 5 teams. Then again, I don't think we were the best team in 2001 either. Works both ways I suppose.

But that's the nature of the one-and-done play-off system. Some team gets hot at the right time and that's that.

I remember him as a fantastic player i just don't think he should be calling them out for not sealing the deal when he could have done so himself. I think Rodney is a HOF caliber player and have a really high opinion of him, I just think he was wrong in this instance.

Hey Rodney we would have another SB if you hadn't let a never caught another pass JAG out physical you for a ball.

Or if Samuel had tried for the INT.
Or if Hobbs covered Burress.
Or if Marooney didn't suck - 14 carries for 36 yds = 2.6 yac

Rodney is dead on.

The Pats have turned into puxxies.

It's funny isn't it? The Patriots had the opportunity to sack Manning at least 3 times during that play, Samuel loafs on the play, Tyree gets open and Harrison pick ups the slack, closes Tyree down and he makes a Cirque du Soleil catch that is likely never to be repeated in a Super Bowl again. Outside all of this, people still blame Harrison for "not closing the deal" when the Helmet Catch didn't win the Giants the Super Bowl (leaving Hobbs on an island against Burress was the defining play).

Harrison couldn't have done much more than he did. If people want to blame anyone, they should be looking at Asante Samuel (again) and a questionable blitz call.

Next time read a little further down.

It wasn't THE reason, but it was one of the reasons. Fact is he breaks up that pass the Pats win.

Brady got the lead and the defense failed to hold up their end of the bargain.

The Burress TD is not on Hobbs. You can't expect a smurf DB with a groin injury to cover a 6'5" receiver with a SB on the line. That blitz was absolutely asinine.

Harrison talks to much. He never won anything before he came to New England. He acts like he is the Bill Russell of the NFL.

What are you talking about? I responding to Triumph.
Apologies. I have Triumph on ignore and saw your response under mine. Assumption and all that jazz.

Rodney Harrison = 2 rings

Nope. It really doesn't.

This gif cuts off before it shows him juggling with two hands after landing.

But let's call it the shoulder pad catch.

So that's two freaky one-hand catches between 2007 and 2013 that involved the helmet and/or shoulder pads.

Get what I'm trying to get at?
