Was just looking at Miguels 2015 page.

We are projected to have about appx $90,000,000 of total Cap Spend

http://patscap.com/2015patscap.html

This does not take into account these guys being cut.

Mankins $7m cap hit
Arrington at $1.5m
A. Wilson $1.5m

With the cap projected to be above $140m next year. That leaves a TON {$50m} of flexibility for Bill to work on an extension with Revis.

What does Loui mean by dead money ? .

You can extend the contract at any time. Let's say he has a great year. Like Moss did in 07. The Pats can say when he's due the 12m dollar bonus. You'll still get that. Maybe more. Let's extend this out a little. We can afford him at 12m per year.

+$50m in cap space but who needs extending? McCourty & Gostkowski and Solder's 5th year option needs picking up?

Apparently Revis cap hit this year is only $7m !!!!!

That's ****** awesome!

simple....the 2nd year in Revis deal (25M cap hit) was a gentlemanly way of assuring Revis will not be tagged, AND allowing him to only be a 7M cap hit this year

someone will gripe about this being cap circumvention, but they'll just be jealous they never thought of it

and I'd bet both sides agreed to make the 2015 number so ridiculously high that both sides understand it will never happen and that either a renegotiation or a parting of ways will be a friendly one

I expect that we signed Revis for at least 3 years.

It does not help your case to assume that we are cutting Mankins and Arrington, and will not sign a player to replace Wilson at the same cap cost.

We should be able to extend Gost DMAC Solder no problem with that amount of cap space.

I would also expect that to increase with a Revis extension following this season

I really hope this isn't a one year tease and he's elsewhere the following year.

It is NOT AWESOME unless one believes that this is Brady's last year. It would have been much better for Revis to have signed for $12M with team able to franchise him for two more years.

Now, we simply have a one-year rental, show-me year.

Yeah total cap figure around 105 so around 35M to spend next year as it stands. But that will change.

No faith in an extension getting done?

ok so with this years rookies and next years rookies. that's manageable.
Say we say goodbye to Mankins and Arrington (just saying) that is very manageable.

might even get a few dollars back on the prisoner.

The part where BB has some leverage is that April 1 date.

IF the league year starts in early March like this year.. there won't be much of a market for Revis and his contract demands.

Report was that cap could be $145m next year and $160m in '2016.

Yeah, I'm sure that if Revis had a very good season in 2014 he'd just gladly sign the franchise tag. You're aware that he could hold the Pats hostage in a huge way if that were the case, right? He's done it before.

The only way the Patriots were going to keep Revis after 2014 was through signing him to an extension. This has always been the case. No way he would accept being franchised twice if he had a remotely good season. The only difference is now we have an extra 5 million in cap space to spend.

With a one year deal, we had rights for three years. With a 2-year deal, we do not.

What is the incentive for Revis to sign an extension anytime soon? I'm not even sure the patriots would sign an extension since an extension would likely increase the 2014 cap (the current contract has its bonus that would not go away with a new contract).

Sure, the team will try to sign an extension, just as the will with McCourty, Gostkowski and some others whose contract is up at the end of the 2014 season. These are possibilities.

No faith in an extension getting done?

According to ESPN there is a $10mm signing bonus and an enormous $25mm charge for next year.
That means either cut, with $5mm dead money in 2015, or restructure.
If cut, FYI, no third-round compensatory pick.

Fascinating contract. This guy is re-writing NFL contract standards.

So let me get this right. He's only costing 7 million against this years cap?
