These injuries are bad

At what point do you admit amendola is injury prone and a bad signing?

So your telling me, Brady wouldn't have been knocked out after that hit. That injury, along with having another player injure you, are ones you can't stop. It's part of the game. Unfortunately, some are unlucky and some are.

I said once Amendola gets back on the field it would only be a matter of time before he has a completely diffent injury. I was right. Amendola has been useless for all but one game. I expect him to be out until after the bye week.

You can't stop that injury, or injuries where your injured from other players. Players today TRY to injure others. It amazes me how people can be so ignorant. Some injuries are unavoidable, especially DA's.

I know it's early for this, and I loved what Amendola did vs Buffalo and I believe he can be a big player for us but, what would the cost of cutting him be for us at the end of the season if they decided they'd rather pay Edelman? If it came down to a one or the other. Looks like he only got 10 mil in guarenteed money.

At this point we have no idea as to whether he'll even miss next Sunday's game or not.

I agree with you that anyone would've been knocked out over that hit. There's nothing you can do about something like that, and even those who despise Amendola should agree and not hold it against him.

Let's all wait and see what his status is first before revisiting the "made of glass" talk.

Edelman's on pace for 109 receptions and 1,096 yards. The WR trio of Edelman, KT, and Dobson continues to improve each week. Amendola is a luxury that really isn't needed.

What is needed is obvious: Gronk to return. We're 32nd in the league in TE production. I'd imagine we aren't doing too bad WR wise.

Amendola's dissapointing, glass season has been negated by Edelman's great play.

In every case of an injury guys stepped up this year so far (except Gronk's absence).

That's how it's gotta be. Whether is thrown at you, you gotta have the mental toughness to overcome it. Injuries are no excuse. Next man up.

That's not the question I asked. Amendola is not in control of another player headhunting.

If Edelman is past his injury days, this really isn't that crazy of an idea. I'm curious as well.

I don't believe DA is a guy capable of sustaining punishment like his predecessor, and I do agree with the group on the board that says he's injury prone. That being said, this team still has 10 games of football left to play, at least. I agree with you, we shouldn't jump the gun quite yet and make final judgments on the signing. We'll hopefully get some info on how bad the injury is, hopefully.

and we barley gave him any $$...we gave a lot to Mr. Glass

Hasn't Edelman been injury prone also and had trouble staying on the field? I think these guys that play with reckless abandon have to learn to tone it down a notch and save their bodies, maybe Edelman has learned that.
There was nothing DA could do today on that hit, why the eff was that not a penalty? A fine is sure to come this week though.

Yes, the loss of Welker's durability is what hurt the most--possibly aside from, or at least on par with the thought of improving an important AFC contender.

That said, all we can go is trust that Belichick had some reasons for making the move, and I think it's somewhat difficult to try and predict just how much a certain player will get hurt in the future.

Just recently we've seen a guy like Wilfork go out and miss the entire year. Does that now make him more injury prone for the future do to his age? Was that part of the thinking with Welker? Is it possible that we just haven't experienced enough of a sample yet with Welker as it's only 1/3 through his first season in DEN?

In the meantime, we've also seen a guy like Talib who has had the same 2 nagging injuries of hip/hamstring deal with these issues in many of the games he's played since coming here last winter. At least Amendola didn't have any of the typical "nagging" types of injuries that Talib has, and yet there were many suitors in free agency willing to go after BOTH Talib and Amendola despite these injury concerns...

Speaking from personal feelings and whatnot, I think a contingent of this site is disappointed with DA because his play in the last two games hasn't been great (no TD's), IE: 2/3 of his games have been kinda pedestrian. Personally, I'd like to see him do what he did against Buffalo again. That was kickass.

Yes, I agree. It seemed at least for me that the bar was a lot higher after a good week one performance.

Despite the situation not being as good as we'd have hoped, I still think that Amendola will produce more, and is actually closer to week one that what we've been seeing lately. I'm definitely not ready to give up on him yet, not even close.

The injuries have certainly been disappointing. That, along with Welker's 8 TD's make it a lousy situation so far through the first six games. I think we see a bit of a turnaround here in the next few weeks. Hopefully the injury today isn't too severe. He got his bell rung hard--absolutely lit up.

I don't understand why it wasn't called, I assumed that I misunderstood the rule, but it is now illegal to spear a RB in the head (he was effectively acting as a RB at the time)? So that means the hit on Ridley in the AFC game last year would now be penalized? (stupid football question #322)

Let's see. We just beat part of the class of the NFC, and held one of the hottest QBs in the league to a respectable (but not horrible) outing... and TFB -- possibly b/c he's now mortal again, now that he's got just rookies, the semi-convalescent Amendola, and Edelman, not Moss, Welker, et al. -- seems to have just remembered that he's supposed to win games in dramatic comebacks with no time on the clock.

Yes "these injuries are bad." But this team is 5-1, not 1-5. I cannot say that often enough.

This has a very early-2000s feeling to it. They just gutted out a big win, from my POV, complete with a vintage TD-as-time-runs-out comeback.

Where was that "Brady Magic" in either of the last 2 SB appearances? Granted it's not the SB, but fighting for your life every week, as a TEAM, may be the ingredient we've been missing. After all, we don't really believe in magic, do we?

This team may be one and done in the playoffs, I dunno. But I really like watching this Patriots team fight to win.

By the way, we were all saying "hmmm, 3-3, maybe 4-2 by game six." Okay, except for the usual dum-dums saying "This year's the year we go 19-0!!!!" as a sort of reflex reaction to the Patriots taking the field on opening day.

What's it take to get into the playoffs? 10? 11? (I don't know who else ever won 11 and missed the playoffs like the 2008 Pats... but expecting that to happen twice is like the chances of getting mauled by a regular bear and a polar bear on the same day.)

I'm thinking we're halfway there, folks. That's a good thing. We may see Vince back. We'll certainly be adding Gronk back into the mix. Amendola's got his detractors, but I'm pretty sure he's better when he's on the field than when he's not. The rooks are getting open and sometimes even catching the ball. 10 more weeks to get in synch with TFB.

Anybody want to talk about the pleasant surprises? Vellano and Jones aren't a washout. Scheme is once again front and center for the Pats, not "Yay lots of talent/Boo not as much talent." Um, turns out BB is good at scheme. Obviously you need good talent... and who knew, AquaTaliban turns out to be a beast, screw "Revis Island." I'll take Sleek And Powerful Monarch of the Islamic Oceans, if we're talking 2013. Er obviously I hope we've still got him starting next week... but it's a reach to just assume before the MRI's that he's "down" for the year or somesuch.

We just beat a super bowl contender last night. There's very little here on just celebrating that, at least in the top few threads. That's weird to me.

Part of the question re: Welker may be "where's the cliff for this guy?" I don't think Welk wanted a one-year deal, right? So watching him having a great year w/Denver... W/Satan Manning, at that... might hurt. But I assume the calculus has been that by the end of a 3 or 4 year deal, at the money he wanted, he was a liability.

We may have already begun seeing the build of the team morphing toward balance -- Over 5 years, are your assets TB and his receivers, or the core of the running game and the defense? Sadly for all of us who've fallen in love w/TFB.... probably the latter. Maybe it's not time to think that way yet. I'm not in the tunnels of Foxborough making these calls. Who knows.

He's going to lack some explosion and ability because of his groin. Can't hurt it more, but he is missing something there.

Good post. Just one correction - we won't see Vince back - he is on IR.
