Bill Belichick Press Conference Transcript

Q: How close was Rob Gronkowski to playing yesterday?

BB: I don’t know. He was inactive.

Q: Did he have a shot to play?

BB: He was inactive.

Q: Going into the day, was there a chance he’d play?

BB: He was inactive for the game.

Q: What about Danny Amendola?

BB: He was inactive too.

Q: I know they were inactive.

BB: They were inactive so they didn’t play.

Q: I think you have an idea how close they were.

BB: Well, they weren’t able to play. What do you want, percentage points? They couldn’t play.

Q: Going into the day, did you know they couldn’t play?

BB: They were inactive.

Q: That doesn’t answer my question.

BB: They were inactive, it’s as simple as that.
Dont know who this was but I can guess fairly certainly. Its no longer about getting info for this guy its just about showing up BB as a bad media person and being able to write about it later.

This teleconference and the coach's interview today on WEEI are some of the worst interview segments I've heard in a long time. You would think these longtime reporters would know by now how to properly interview BB and appeal to his preference to discuss x's and o's. Instead they choose to go the route of asking useless questions about what percentage an injured player's availability is or whether he doesn't prepare as hard for inferior opponents. I can't believe this is the best these established reporters can do. Makes me think they're being directed by their bosses to ask specific questions and stay on the topic to elicit some type of a controversial retort.

It was Albert Breer...

Yup. He made a stink on Twitter, defending it as important because BB's answer would help us to know how close these guys are to returning. Cuz, you know, Breer has that expertise. This is the same guy who drilled BB a few years ago about whether Haynesworth was "a good guy." Kind of a drag.

Albert Breer is a turd monkey.

Albert has a perpetual look on his as if someone just broke wind right under his nose.

It is at the point reporters know the question is not going to be answered. But the reporters are doing it IMHO to get twittter follows and be mentioned by other reporters.

Yes, it is at that point IMO.

Yes, it is at that point IMO. Breer also did it in camp, when Gronk first appeared working out on the field, or at least Uncle Albert thought it was his first appearance.

Ask a stupid question, get a blunt answer.

Not surprised to hear it was Breer.

I do find it telling that on the Pats/Jets Thurs night game, the NFL network didn't use Boston based Breer on the pre-game or post game. They flew in Rapaport and Willie.

I love his press conferences. Nobody can talk longer and say less than Bill. I'm sick of football being a soap opera and everyone looking for something where there's nothing.

I'm listening to BB's weei interview from today ... wow, what a disaster ..

I love the way BB plays head **** games with the mediots

Yo Breer, you're a complete tool!

BB attitude is a little ridiculous and actually carried over to the WEEI interview.. I can understand he doesn't like the questions but be a little professional to people..

Getting real old..

Sorry he didn't help your son do his job, Mrs. Breer.

I don't mind this in the slightest. It's BB's prerogative to answer the questions like he does, but it's similarly their prerogative to keep asking them.

I don't keep track on who the media guys are, so don't know Breer from a beer, but the only nit I have to pick with those questions -- all of which I'd really like to know the answer to, by the way -- is that when Belichick asked if he wanted percentage points, I would have pressed even further by saying, "yes please."

The way that Belichick answers questions, there's virtually never any reason to ask questions, unless all you want to ask is, "hey, please tell us one of those great stories when you were a whippersnapper and you were in Ted Marchibroda's closet looking at film." The NFL makes him do it. The press is entitled to do their part. I think Belichick asking, "what do you want percentage points" indicates it got under his skin a bit -- he actually broke from robot mode. That keeps the game afoot.

But, for the record, I would really like to know the answers to the questions. I am curious about when Gronk will be back. I am curious whether there was any thought of playing. I understand that our coach thinks it hurts the team to reveal information like that. He's the boss, so I live with it. But I sure don't mind him having to play the game.

Sorry he didn't help your son do his job, Mrs. Breer.

Sorry you don't like my opinion and I'm fairly confident if someone treated you like this in a meeting you probably wouldn't put up with it..Just my opinion..

for me, his attitude is getting old.. Be a refresher if he treated the local media like when he talks to Pat Kirwan on SIRIUS.. Much different attitude, very responsive and polite..Thats the BB I enjoy..
