If he pans out like JPP, that wouldn't be too bad

Ick on the general report. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. Hopefully just a bad day.

It means nothing, zero

Much like the preaseaon games most people here will freak out over

Yeah, it really does mean absolutely nothing from our perspective. After the first 2 preseason games we were screaming "top 5 defense" as the first team looked absolutely insane. No QB spent much time on his feet against the vanilla 43 we played.

Come regular season Miami lit them up.

Actually it may mean that we won't have to read any more over the top hysteria here about how totally "unstoppable" the 2012 Pats offense is.

lulz...on the saints forum it's pics of 2009 game and *****ing about Rams walkthrough tapes and no suspensions.

Must be the Paperbag-Aints complex

and a note on all the negatives. If you can't take too much out of the first preaseason game what should that tell you about the first joint practice?

I think many were silenced before that by the Lions preseason game in which they delay blitzed us the entire game with great success. Thus their fans claiming themselves the next 85 Bears defense.

Must be the Paperbag-Aints complex

Pre 2006 I could walk around town with all my Pats gear on and no one said boo. Since 2006, but especially since 2009, it's amazing the number of stupid comments I get from people that can barely name the Saints starting receivers. There are at least 5 people in my office that have pictures of Brady on the bench from that Monday Night Game, you'd think that was the Superbowl. For some reason they can't grasp that I don't consider them a rival team either, its strange. Also, you'll never meet a more self congratulatory fan base and their band-wagoners make ours seem like Rhodes Scholars.

BostonHerald.com - Blogs: The Blitz» Blog Archive » Patriots, Saints wrap up first joint practice

Hmm. The Herald had a pretty different take on it; some excerpts....

Offense:
Quarterback Tom Brady was perfect in positional drills when he threw to Patriots receivers as they ran routes against Saints defensive backs. He was then 10 of 13 with an interception in 7-on-7s. Then Brady really struggled in 11-on-11s against the Saints’ defense. He was 7 of 16 with two touchdowns and one interception. He also drew a defensive pass-interference penalty on a ball thrown to Rob Gronkowski. Brady missed four throws that he’d normally make, which was the concern. He slammed his helmet to the ground in frustration after one set of reps.

Defense:
Cornerback Sterling Moore did a nice job to break up a pass in the end zone for Joe Morgan. Moore stripped it out of Morgan’s hands in the air. However, as Morgan landed on his back, the ball wound up in his lap for the score. While Moore didn’t finish the job, the midair ball skills were good.

Well I've heard enough. Now since it's obvious 2012 is a
lost cause, what move do you think we should make for 2013?

BB presser for those die-hards who just have to hear it all. (not a lot there)

energy level is high / competition was good / good to practice against the best, jada jada jada.

gotta love the BB classic 'i'm just trying to coach this team' in response to the shawn payton isn't here (subtitled 'don't you want to talk about bountygate') question.

I think that's exactly what it means, actually. I think that we got swept up in all the talk about the weapons and maybe forgot there are professionals on other teams that get paid too. There will not be a repeat of 2007.

1. I don't care much how the Pats do in the preseason. I hope they get creamed by a few teams in practices and games. Some "humble pie" would not be a bad thing to keep things in perspective. There's no need to panic - BB knows how to go about building a team for the long haul of a 16 game season for the playoffs, and it's not about peaking in the preseason.

2. With that in mind, Field Yates had a few nice observations about some of the defensive players:

Hightower the re-router. Continue to be impressed with the re-route ability of rookie linebacker Dont’a Hightower. It doesn’t take a massive strike from the 22-year old to move a receiver off of his spot, rather his strength looks so forceful that if he’s able to get his hands on a receiver, he usually disrupts his timing.

Jones raises up. Rookie defensive end Chandler Jones continues to show solid signs in both individual and team work. During an early 11-on-11 rep, he wasn’t able to generate enough of an upward push towards the quarterback, but raised his arms in the air so as to disrupt the throw of Drew Brees. Though he didn’t deflect the pass on the first go-around, a second rep employing the same maneuver paid off, as he swatted a Brees throw at the line of scrimmage.

Wilson blitzes. Second-round safety Tavon Wilson has shown a knack for a unique skill throughout training camp: blitzing. He has impressive timing, a skill that usually derives from strong instincts. He’s also shown himself to be a forceful player, which could translate into sacks this season.

Moore’s ball skills stand out. Hard not to take notice of Sterling Moore’s consistent ball skills. He gets his hands on a number of passes, including an end zone deflection today that somehow ended to drop into the hands of Saints receiver Joshua Morgan’s hands (Morgan had actually dropped to the ground). Tough break for Moore, but he continues to dislodge balls and force incompletions. From this vantage point, he’s shown tremendous timing on his break-ups, and finishes every play. Defensive backs know that no ball is secure until the play is over, and Moore is persistent in his defense.

Arrington’s tough day. Cornerback Kyle Arrington has been built off of his 2011 campaign and looked sharp so far in training camp, but he was twice beat during live drills, once on a deep throw to Saints wide receiver Joseph Morgan.

Camp Observations: Day 13 - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Tavon Wilson continues to impress, and Chung-Gregory-Wilson looks solid. And the Sterling Moore observations are consistent with what others have already said.

I think I saw Ebner on the field with the 1st team defense for a bit

Brady looked terrible in 11 v 11's .... his picks were absolutely awful throws that were forced.
