Mike Mayock Early Positional Rankings

No way in hell the Cards give up Adrian Wilson. He's the best modern day safety in the NFL.

Ed Reed must be turning in his grave.

Ed Reed must be turning in his grave.

Obviously Reed is #1. Nobody even has to discuss that. However, Wilson is probably the better all around safety in the NFL. Reed doesn't bring much on running plays but obviously he's the #1 safety in coverage and it's not even close.

A free agent or McCourty may be our best bet at free safety.

It doesn't appear to be a strong year for safeties, which means I wouldn't be opposed to trying to get Barron with a 1st rounder if we can't get a veteran starter in free agency. I think safety is a bigger issue than corner right now.

Part of the reason I like guys like Alfonzo Dennard and Trumaine Johnson. Guys who can rotate to safety in this new hybrid style of defense we like to play.

This new hybrid style of defense was forced upon us by the lack of talent at safety. CBs don't project to safety just because they're tall and have a little extra meat on them. They need to be physical and know how to lay the wood.

My favorite CB is Leonard Johnson from Iowa State. Mayock has him at #5. I don't know anything about him, but I remember watching the Iowa State upset vs. undefeated Oklahoma State, and he played pretty well vs. Blackmon. Good player on terrible team. Yep, don't know anything else. :D

I don't want a CB, but if we drafted him with our 2nd, I wouldn't be mad.

Is pretty well 10 catches for 99 yards and a TD while being doubled the whole game? The other WR Cooper had 13 catches for 128 yards and a TD. I watched that game too and all I saw was the entire Iowa State team in coverage. If he had single coverage on Blackmon I'd guess 15+ for 200+ wouldn't of been out of the question.

Mayocks positional ratings have been updated and can be seen here. Two surprises:

Have to think that 3-5 would fall into our wheelhouse and would useful as trade bait or picking for ourselves.

I'd love it if Still falls like this. Starting to think he's the best fit for a Patriots 3-4 DE, particularly if Brockers goes high.

IMO do not like still. do like fletcher cox and his ability to play 3-4 and 4-3.
