Brady v. Brees: Two games to pass Marino

I sometimes think if this is why our run game has been unproductive, and the reason why Brady continues to ignore the dumpoff to RB's or short completions in favor of homeruns that invariably turn into quick 3 and outs.

I hope that is not true

Were I BOB or BB and noticed such a bias, I'd have words with my QB

However, I do not believe this to be so. Sadly for some inexplicable reason like most of the things happening this season, the offense eschews the screen pass. Bledsoe could not throw it. Brady won championships throwing it...Redmond, Antowain Smythe (sic), Faulk... but now has foresworn the pass. At a loss for a rational explanation, I blame Gisele.

Nope. It's a record for the ages that's stood for decades and that's held by one of the greatest QB's of all time, so it's important, but not as important as the SB, as Rob said above.

Like our magnificent 16-0 banner at gillette that trumped the Fins 12-0. No thanks.
Wasn't a Marino stats freak then and certainly am not now.
This has become the colts fan base.

Agreed, I think Brady would love to have the record (and Gronk too), and I think that Belichick and everyone else with a sense of history for the game would like to see it happen as well. I don't think they'll do anything to the detriment of the team to make it happen, ut I doubt they're ignoring it either. These are the same guys who went for 16-0, 50 TD, and 23 rec TD.

History, yes were the record close. It isn't.

And I believe that despite the opponents ineptitude we're better off working on aspects of the offense that haven't been functioning at a championship caliber such as throwing to the RB and WRs and most of all working and working at the running game.

I thought everything you said was fine and I even agreed with you until the final zinger. Not called for. Can't we discuss something and even disagree without being equated with low lifes?

Say that was my idea too.

Thats a pretty big reach of a criticism of Brady.
CONTINUES TO IGNORE
INVARIABLY TURN INTO QUICK 3 AND OUTS?
This is a guy completing 66.2% of his passes, on an offense that is 2nd in yards, 3rd in points and 2nd in first downs, less than 1 a game behind #1.
Brady has also thrown only 13 passes all season more than 30 yards downfield, 'going for the homerun less than once a game.
Last year he threw 19 balls over 30 yards, in 2009 30 and 2007 30
I think you need to rethink your criticism.

I'm curious Andy (as it seems you've investigated the matter) how many of those home run throws were with Randy Moss on the roster in 2010?

Brady himself is his staunchest critic.
It's why he's a contender for the GOAT and won't rest on his laurels.
There's ALWAYS room for self analysis and improvement.
It's BB's and the Patriots theme.
Private industry managers take note.

I have no idea either. It gets frustrating at times, especially in a goal line situation where we can easily run the ball in rather than throwing into a very compressed playing field.

Andy, it wasn't meant to be taken literally- more of an expression of frustration, that's all.

Brady has had 3 TDs taken away by refs so far this year.

The one to Branch on that really long pass play a couple weeks ago, he got in and was ruled down.

Welker two weeks ago scored and was ruled down.

And Aaron Hernandez caught that ball in the 2nd qtr in the end zone against Denver.

Belichick didn't throw his flag on all 3 occasions. Twice New England scored TDs on running plays, a FG this weekend.

Gronk was in against the steelers.

Also looks like Brady's 50 td record is safe. When you watch Aaron Rodgers this year that makes it even more amazing what Brady did in 2007. And I don't think rodgers has played a game in inclimate conditions yet while Brady had the game in Bmore where winds clearly played a role and the Jets game in rainy conditions. Plus he faced a way tougher schedule.

you know whats funny? peyton lovers saying he is better than brady because stastics when he plays 10 games at least a year at dome and in the worst division defensively in the last decade
Lets not be short sighted here. The Titans were one of the better defensive teams this decade and the Jags are no slouch either

It's a well known fact that AFC East is the weakest division of the decade.

Anyways, Brady will hang 500 again.

According to who? Based on what? Regular season or playoff success?

that would be awesome if brady breaks the record tomorrow and Brees has to wait until Monday night....:D

There's a big "Brees has more career yards than Brady" thread on one of the Saints boards right now that ignores this entirely.

I'd say the core stats the nation ignores is interception efficiency and TD to interception %. The two most important basically.

Brady:
296/114 = 2.6
5240/114 = 46 (2.2%)

Joe Montana:
273/139 = 2.0
5391/139 = 38.8 (2.6%)

Manning:
399/198 = 2.0
7210/198= 36.4 (2.7%)

Brees:
272/143 = 1.1
5405/143=37.8 (2.9%)

Dan Marino:
420/252 = 1.67
8358/252 = 33.2 (3%)

One day the rest of the NFL QB's and general public will catch on and stop putting so much weight on yards. Until then I expect Brady and the Patriots to keep kicking ass. Same goes for Patriots D who is currently #2 in efficiency in the NFL. I also think that 10 years after Tom Brady retires people will look back and realize Brees or Peyton were never really even that close to Tom Brady.

Not to take anything from Brees this year. He's having a great year. But I wouldn't be surprised if he follows in the footsteps of Marino either where he gets the record while Brady gets the ring this year.

Here's to the thing with the ring.

On your stats: Not only does TFB best all those guys — they all played home games in warm weather stadiums or domes, and many of their opponents were the same. (Marino does get credit for playing in a division with northeast teams; meanwhile ... how the heck is Indy in the South?)
