Fantasy Baseball

Hey all... Last year I ran a fantasy baseball league at ESPN consisting mostly of posters here at PatsFans and would like to run one again this year. Last year I had to scramble a bit towards the draft date to fill in Owners so I am starting this process much earlier this year. I am looking for Owners that take care to check their teams on a regular basis, atleast every few days or so, throughout the whole season. Last year about 4 of the 10 owners stopped checking and managing their team a month or two into the season and it was very disappointing. I have a solid start of active owners from last year that want to play again. Time to fill out the ranks with others who take it just as seriously.. or atleast.. will be active participants. I was in your league last year. My team was Waaay Back. I'm interested in doing it again. Hopefully there aren't as many people that quit.

Hey man .. yeah I actually tried sending you an email through that league this morning.. guess it didnt work haha.. but you were the first person I tried to contact because you were always on top of things.. With you I have the top 5 teams from that league back for another year.. all of whom were "active" owners.. myself (Maniacs), you (Waaaay Back), Home Run Divas, A.Cartwright, and Red Sox Nation... so we are 5 great owners strong.. hopefully we can pick up another 5 like that.. drop me an email sometime I am going to keep a folder of email addresses for this league for easy contact..

You only play with 10 teams????

What settings do you use (Positions & Stats)?

I love the deeper leagues 20 teams, but a 12 team league is not bad if you use NFBC positions.

2 Catchers
1 First Baseman
1 Second Baseman
1 Shortstop
1 Third Baseman
1 Middle Infielder (2B/SS)
1 Corner Infielder (1B/3B)
1 Utility Player (any offensive position)
5 Outfielders
9 Pitchers

If you go with the traditional settings with only 10 teams, most teams are
filled with stars.

I am just curious.... I am not trying to step on anyones toes.
If it is a deep league, I would like to play.

Last year it was a struggle to get to 10 teams so that is what we went with.. it will probably be a more shallow 10 or 12 team league though unless we get more that want to play.. if so I have no problem opening it up to more teams.. we shall see how turnout goes thanks for the interest

Are you doing H2H again? I was in the league last year, and admittedly fell off checking a great deal because of work. If you were considering switching to roto, I might be interested in playing again (if you'd have me), but I've never been a fan of the H2H format for baseball (borne out by my laziness with the team last year).

Looking at head to head again this year but if it changes based on a majority of owners wanting roto I will let you know..

I think they start around the time Pitchers and Catchers report or maybe when positional players report for Spring training

Feb 15 is the date I have for when ESPN opens up there leagues... I am counting down the days lol Posted this message in the political forum and sent you a PM Wildo.. Real World you were in the league last year right? There was a team with the name Real World which is what tipped me off haha.. or its just some freaky crazy coincidence

So running tally is that I have 9 solid count me in owners... may be able to get to a 12 team league this year.. we shall see...

ESPN opened up early ! Very excited for that haha.. anyway I have sent out invites to the people here that sent me their email addresses already.. if you havent emailed me yet at [email protected] and you want to be in the league do so now.. I created a 10 team league but can always scrap it and bump to 12 if we genuinely, truly, have the active owner interest. There are 7 invites sent out.. and two other spots that are pretty much set - 1 I have to call my friend and get his email tomorrow but he was a great owner last year.. and 2 - my friends roommate said he wanted in but again I need an email addy..

I added the setting of possibly having keepers for next year because I have all season to change that to no keepers if it isnt something that interests people.. I had some interest from a couple of the owners (the people I know in the league from "real life".. but havent bounced it off the board members that wanted in).. like I said if we dont want it I can change the settings at any time between now and the end of the year.. or not.. and just open a new league next year haha.. 6 categories on both offense and defense.. head to head scoring.. 8 of 10 teams make playoffs 3 rounds.. one week each round.. 1 each of Catcher, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, Utility and 3 OFs.. 3 Starting Pitcher slots, 3 relief pitcher slots.. 9 bench (split however you want between pitcher and position players) and one DL spot... ummm not sure what else to say right now..

OH! Draft Date haha.. tentatively, and I do mean tentatively, scheduled for Thursday March 12 at 8pm eastern time.. LIVE DRAFT.. well Live online anyway haha.. and whatever date we pick if you cant make it set your rankings and the computer can autopick for you but I hope to have most if not all the owners at the draft... I have a few suggestions if you are taking them.

8 teams making the playoffs seems like too much. In a normal 12 man league only 6 teams make the playoffs with the top 2 seeds getting a first round bye. I've always felt like that works best because it makes the regular season mean a lot more.

Also, could you add a couple P slots? I noticed last year I wasn't able to start all my pitchers on the same day because there weren't enough slots.

I like the idea of a keeper league but you have to have dedicated managers year and year out to make it work.

Yeah playoff format is what I changed more than anything else.. I went from 4 teams like last year to all 10 .. to 6 .. to 8... couldnt decide haha.. I prefer the less teams but also prwefer the one week per round.. last year all I got was grumbling that the two weeks per round was too much and the participants prefered 1 week like in the regular season.. I will change the playoffs back down to less teams though and still work on the one week per round thing.. Pitcher slots... Yeah I can throw in another slot pretty easy I also had that "problem" last year .. works for me.. thanks for the input man!
