Looks like Commish cut him a break..............

B. Discipline for Violations of the Law.
A player wil normally be subject to discipline up to and including suspension without
pay for four regular and/or post-season games for a first violation of the law related to
substances of abuse other than alcohol and for six regular and/or post-season games for a
second violation of the law related to substances of abuse other than alcohoL. A player's
treatment history may be considered by the Commissioner in determining the appropriate
degree of discipline. The suspension period may be extended if medically necessary, and,
if extended, may involve mandatory treatment if required by the Medical Director.

my question, why dont they announce this earlier? why now just before the start of the season ? to get more media coverage. i will bet this will be among the headlines in almost all the sports sites

Re: Kevin Faulk suspended, fined

you said "the Commissioner needs to go" - which implies that you thought there should be less punishment, if any. So which was it?

Actually, "This Ommissioner really needs to go" implies that I think the Ommissioner is doing a poor enough job that he needs to be removed from office. I've been pretty consistent on this from day 1, Patriots players or not. In fact, I got crap for defending Pacman about this.

As for what punishment, let's have me take away 1/8th of your annual salary over a misdemeanor possession offense, and then we'll talk. Perhaps you can explain just why that second game check had to be taken away.

While I agree with you in many way regarding the commissioner and this harsh penalty for the crime (IMHO)....read my amened post above and the Commish actually cut Faulk a break as per the agreed upon drug policy from the NFLPA.

Go ahead, normally it would cost me MY JOB, no questions asked. Football players do have it good, don't they?

You should get a different job, then, sounds like you work for a jerk-off if you would lose your job over a misdemeanor. Do they fire you for jaywalking too?

I know what you're trying to say, but you're wording it incorrectly IMHO. He could have given him either more OR less punishment.

Let me be clear about something here. I don't blame the Ommissioner for handing down a punishment, merely the needless second game check portion. The Players Union was stupid enough to allow the league to test and punish for non performance enhancing drugs, so the blame for the basic notion of the punishment resides there.

Actually my job is quite good and my company is a great to work for b/c it doesn't tolerate people who get busted for possession. If you ran a company would you feel good about an employee you knew smoked pot and may/may not be influenced on the job?

Why would the NFL want this to get more media coverage?

I'm with you on this one, Zeke. I'm a business owner, and there's no way in hell I'd fire an employee over a misdemeanor offense if I didn't see a negative effect on the job.

I own and run my own company. Now, kindly tell me how the circumstances of Faulk's misdemeanor arrest demonstrate any problem on the job.

I am allowed unescorted access into nuclear power facilities - do you really think the NRC takes kindly to known possession-offenders roaming our nation's nuke plants? Would you feel good about it?

Re: Kevin Faulk suspended, fined

Yeah it's not like we can stand up and defend Kevin's actions. Some think everything is relative and if player A does this then player B should be able to do that. The commish makes the rulings and he's also the guy that hands out that nice shiny Lombardi at the end of the year so unless people want to boycott the league we will have to accept his decisions.
You are confusing the word "accept" with "approve."

no your company sucks. If someone comes to work high, and it affects job performance, obviously that's an issue, but firing people for smoking pot in their personal time is draconian at best.

1.) I really don't give a damn what the NRC takes kindly to. Its record of incompetence makes it a terrible example to use.

2.) I have no problem with what an employee does while not on the job. Possession and partaking is no different than drinking, popping prescription medication, or any other habit. As long as the employee's habit does not impact job performance, it's none of my business. Using your logic, it's time to start firing anyone who drinks alcohol, too.

This is heading towards another inevitable marijuana argument, but ruling out all "possession-offenders" and including marijauna smokers in this group is just as arbitrary as ruling out people who drink on the weekends.

In any case you just undermined your own argument by listing a very distinctive reason as to why your workplace is very different from Kevin Faulk's.

Irelevant. That is like saying Walt Coleman should have given the ball to teh Raiders because the tuck rule is dumb.

Debating the value or correctness of a rule/law is not the same as deciding whether or not a person broke that rule/law.

The key if football, as in life, is knowing the rules and adjusting your behavior accordingly.

My company does it, sometimes. But my company is the US Air Force, so it was a pretty well established rule before I signed up. :D
