NY Times says Mangini's job on the line - might not work again

The real irony here is that through this "desparation" move of considering Favre, MangIdiot has exacerbated the psuedo-quarterback controversy he already has on his hands.

Pennington and Clemens aren't just looking over their shoulders at each other - they both know now that the organization doesn't have confidence in either of them.

Neither strike me as the types of players who respond positively to that - the fact that they'd publically come out and voice such a lack of confidence on all the QBs on their roster without having a real chance of getting Favre in the first place is just downright stupid IMO.

========================================================

Mangini had unique knowledge, pffft, give me a break.

So Herm Edwards waving to the camera and all, but the Jets had no idea this was happening till Mangini came on board.

Maybe not everyone knew what the Pats were doing, but the league did and so did the Jets prior to Mangini.

I admit I am a homer and sometimes can't see the forest for the trees, but I still don't buy that Mangini had to rat anyone out, I would say stopping the Pats from taping from an illegal location falls more under the duties of the GM Tannenbaum.

My only point is that Mangini knew about it because....he had done it!

Neither strike me as the type to respond positively to anything, they both suck. I dont care who's feathers you may be ruffling. You have to show interest in Favre if your the Jets. These are grown men, they can deal with it, especially these two scrubs.

Letting it be known to the public that you have no confidence in your current QBs and are interested in Favre - knowing that you have little chance of getting him at best, and at worst, are simply helping the Packers to drive up his asking price via trade, is just stupid and serves no purpose

Actually I take that back - it does serve a purpose in terms of PR to let Jets fans think there's a chance of getting him, even if the hope is fleeting.

But in terms of helping your team, chasing that windmill serves little positive purpose - if anything it further undermined the confidence your players have in their QBs, letting them know that their team leaders stand little chance and are lame ducks (literally and figuratively)

I'm not saying the Jets are wrong to be interested in Favre - I'm just saying letting this go public served no purpose.

The Pats have done a pretty good job of keeping their free agent and trade prospects under wraps until it was a done deal. Why the Jets either couldn't or wouldn't do the same thing is what I question.

The Jets were tight lipped about everything. They let nothing be known. It was the Packers not the Jets who inquired about a trade about Favre. The Jets went to Pennington and Clemens and told them the exact same thing. From there you even admit the Jets would do themselves a disservice if they did not investigate means of improving the team. Its really no one in the Jets FO fault that ESPN leaked that the Pack gave them permission and thats how this all started. From there the details are blurry b/c we have no clue if a) the Jets made a bid for Favre B) If they spoke to Favre which they would have to do to get this thing done. No one outside of the Jets FO can fully answer those two questions, and for that I think the Jets have kept things under wraps. Publicly they have said all the right things and I cant see one action they have done to show that they are desperate for Favre like many here describe.

where did you get this info? I hadnt heard anything about that, though I admit, I watch nfl net more than espn. Is there a link?

Here is a link for the Packers contacting the Jets about Favre
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=txpackersjetsfavre&prov=st&type=lgns

as for Tanny going to Clemens and Penington thats some where in the training camp quotes from Pennington when he confirms that. I can find that for you later

ok. all I had heard was the jets contacted the packers on nfl net, but I probably heard it wrong. I would imagine the pack want favre as far away as possible. especially away from the vikings, and bears:D

I'm starting to feel bad for Pennington. Only a little though;)

lol trust me there are far more people on your team I despise then like or respect, i.e. Harrison, Wilfork, Brady, Merriweather. But I do respect Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, Ty Law, Vinatieri. Some how im able to put aside team preferences towards classy well performing individuals

You seem like a pretty level headed person …so the fact that you throw Brady in that mix has me confused. I can see you disliking Rodney and Vince (however I know you’d love them if they played for the Jets), but what in the world makes you despise Tom Brady? Merriweather?????? You should love him.... if he had just one finger not made of stones the Pats win their 4th superbowl last year. And don’t bring up his college days at Miami. He’s proved to the Patriots that that was an isolated incident. He’s a soft spoken man who really hasn’t said boo since he’s been here. Now if only he would learn to hang onto the ball!

Well heres the deal on Brady, I had great respect for him and still do. The guy is first class, but the whole I hate the Jets comment kinda has to make me hate him by default. I didnt hear the interview so he could have said it tongue and cheek but when someone says that about your team it cant sit well with you.

Hears my rant to all Pats fans. I understand you have to hate Mangini b//c of the spygate issue, the same way I have to hate Belichick b/c he ditched the Jets HC job. However some of you have said that players dislike him, his ego gets the best of him or he is not bright. After having a chance to go to Jets camp today and talk with most of the players I have to disagree with a lot of those things. Mangini is still learning a lot on the fly. However respected vets like Tony Richardson and Kris Jenkins all say the same thing when you ask them about Mangini. They say he has a great football mind, they say he teaches them things they never thought of or knew (Curtis Martin said similar things 2 years ago) and they say they respect him as a man. I understand some of you are getting ready to make a rat comment after the last comment I made but Richardson in particular told me how he loved how he was a straight forward military man like his dad. Pace said he loved just talking about life with Eric. You are entitled to hate him and I wont blame ya but I just hope you can try to be unbias towards him. Im not a Belichick supporter but I will always credit him as maybe the greatest football mind of my lifetime, a 1st ballot HOF and quite possible the greatest coach of all time. END RANT

THe most suprsing thing about this thread is that there are TWO level-headed Jets fans! I do like reading your insights coming from the other side.

I am not saying he doesn't need work, because he has shown he needs help with catching a few times. But the Super Bowl ball...that ball wasn't entirely catchable if I remember correctly. If he did catch it, it would have been one of those "Holy Sh*t How Did He Catch That?" moments, like Tyree's catch.

Samuel's missed INT, on the other hand, was a case of stone hands.

Come on dog, what about me? Or am I one of the two you were talking about?:singing:

Mangini is in over his head.

Just watch :singing:

The "Jets" don't exist anymore....they have morphed into the RATS...and personally, I could care less what some "fan" of a "team" known worldwide as stool pigeons has to say about ANYTHING. Credibility and RATTING are mutually exclusive.

Some crack addled fool shoots up a night club killing, say, 6 people, and you're going to keep your mouth shut rather than 'rat'?

heh...no....comparing an entertainment venue with ACTUAL CRIMINAL ACTION is about as big a stretch as one can make and still remain in this galaxy...nice try though...

Nonsense, as you well know. You are the one using words used by the criminals, not me. The part about comparing being a stretch becomes very funny given your word choices with "rat" and "stool pigeon".

to help fight the his players dont like him and he has to big an ego charges. A story just recently came out that during the offseason when Coles wanted a new deal, mangini went to florida and went to his house to let him know how important he was to the team. Coles said that alone made him put away his contract differences. Thats just one example of how he has changed to a more liked coach by the players HC.
