FSNE's predecessor may have been SportsChannel. I'm not 100% sure on that one, tho...

It sure was, wasn't a great channel but did have Celtics, though in the 90's they were had to watch.
I do like Comcast sports news show better then NESN, they have more interviews and cover all the sport pretty well. Though really wish that they didn't have Felger hosting, what TOOL.

I have DirecTv and I am watching the free previews this week as well. I am thinking about buying the channel for $12 a month though in order to see all the Sox games. I don't have a Directv sports package, aside from NFL Sunday ticket.

By the way, do they only broadcast the Red Sox? How about the Bruins?

After this weekend's preview, you won't be seeing the Sox on NESN for $12 a month. You will need to buy the extra innings baseball package to watch the games live on NESN. If you buy the sports pack, you will get NESN but it will be blacked out while the Bruins and Sox play (as well as any college football/basketball game that is part of the ESPN+ package). You will be able to see all replays of the Sox and Bruins, but no live games without the $100+ baseball package.

Is NESN the channel Mike Reiss has a spot on a sports show on, or is that FSNE? I used to have both on DirecTV but can't remember which is which.

I have seen him appear on the show Bob Ryan has the globe top 10 or something like that. You will not find many patriots bits on it though as it is mainly a red sox/bruins station.

Oh, thanks so much for letting me know! That's a major bummer! If the Red Sox own the channel, why do they block out the games? Oh wait, it's a money thing, right?

Well, that just sucks now. I am glad I found out though before getting it.

It is DirectTv's decision, not the team's. If the local sports networks (NESN, YES, SNY, etc) aren't blacked out during games, people would pay $12/month for the sports pack vs $150 or so for the baseball package.

We all know that is not possible because of the multi billion dollar NFL TV contracts.

If they opt out of the CBA, revenue sharing will go the way of the cap and then savvy ownerships (like the Cowboys and Patriots) will be able to establish their own regional sports networks ala MLB... This is still a better model for the league, but there is a silver lining for the savvy owners of the haves/large market teams that will make life a living hell for the small market teams - provided of course the league survives a work stoppage.

I am a Red Sox fan too so I might consider getting the channel anyway. I wish they had an all Patriots channel, now that would be cool!

Man DirectTV sucks, My DishNetwork I get NESN for 5 bucks along with all my local channels ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. No blackouts. Granted no NFL ticket but I wouldnt get that anyways.

They show pats highlights but no one show dedicated just to pats or no pats games televised. they do have canadian football league lol

Well, no NESN for me and I will just renew my NFL Sunday ticket. Seeing that I am from North Carolina, I cannot be subjected to watching the Panthers, Falcons and Titans only! LOL Actually I don't believe I could live here with out Sunday ticket!
