Well I was messing around in Madden because I had the #1 overall pick. What happened was I traded Rashad Baker and a 2nd rounder in week 6 of the season to the then 0-6 Cleveland Browns for their 1st round pick. Luckily for me I picked the right team to trade to, and the Browns went 0-16. :)

I knew the #1 pick would take a huge salary to sign so I decided to trade down. I traded down the #1 pick for the #3 pick and that team's high 3rd rounder. Then I traded the #3 pick for the #6 pick and that team's high 3rd rounder as well. So now I've got the #6 overall pick, my own 2nd round pick, and 3 3rd round picks, 2 of them being high 3rd round picks. Talk about a pick bonanza! I turned the #1 overall pick into the #6 pick and 2 extra high 3rd round picks! I now have 5 1st day picks! I'm tempted to keep doing it but there is a max pick limit of 10, and I don't think I could afford to sign 10 1st day picks anyways :p

Question, could the Patriots play the same game and say trade down from #2 all the way down to #7-8 and pick up two EXTRA 3rd round picks? That would be a hell of a draft since we already have two 3rd round picks. That would be the #7 overall pick, our 2nd rounder, and FOUR 3rd round picks!! For a toyal of SIX 1st day picks. Hehehe. That couldn't happen... could it?

I suppose it could happen, but it's a lot different that trading with Madden. I expect that the artificial intelligence in Madden just looks at a trade value chart and signs off on the deal if it's close -- without regard to the other team's needs, cap shape, or draft targets. Just because a team has the ammunition to trade from 6 to 3 doesn't mean they will. They may be content to see what falls to them at 6, trade up to 2, or even trade down themselves.
