Florio speculates on a BB to Commanders trade

could help explain the puzzling 'extension" announced a short while back.
Pats sending a message, that if teams want to talk to BB, he is under contract, and would require compensation.
protection on losing an asset for nothing
something the team failed to address at the trade deadline

I am OK with Belichick going to the Commanders. It could save face for Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick. Harris is in a rebuild so it doesn't matter what BB does in one year. Harris could fire BB and it would be OK as opposed to Kraft firing BB. Hey, new start for BB. It gets the anchor off his neck. Patriots will have another bad season in '24-'25 with a fresh rebuild.

I like it.

I think the announcement was to settle down the fans.

Too bad they didn't think of protection when Bill dumped the GOAT QB and TE and got zero in return. The Pats ended up with Cant Newton and nobody instead.

BB, McDaniels, Patricia and Jimmy G could be a package going ... somewhere.
This got me to thinking (always a dangerous thing) and the possibility of that group all ending up together again is fascinating. The odds could actually be better than the Pats making the playoffs.

We could throw in the possibility of Daboll ending up with them too. They all go to Washington and the owner will have the bulk of the coaching being paid for by other teams and a QB with an injury history that they can get on the cheap. The perfect storm for Bill.

All this talk of trading BB or firing him is total garbage. It is the the kind of spew you would expect from the afternoon radio idiots like Adam Jones (who is even worse than Felger). The problem is that Jones and Felger repeat this baloney so often the some of the listening public actually believes it.

What's real garbage is filling this site up with nonsense from folks most of us don't want to hear. You need to stop listening to Jones and Felger.

What do you think? Do you really think that Bill is untouchable or should be? If so, why? Using his own standard with players tells me that he's fair game.

Please tell me this "listening public" doesn't vote or serve on civic boards.

Gotta hand it to Florio this dude is persistent. Once he gets an idea about something he doubles and triples down on it and won’t let go. He’s been talking about BB being traded for over a year now.

Did the same thing for Brady unretiring again.

Rivera is probably on his way out there. So why would they want BB?

Florio is a pretty infor person.. he definitely knows how to handle information.. I think there could be something to this. Question though can coaches be traded at any time during the season?

No ONE is untouchable in this league. Coaches ,players, executives. I'm not suprised by anything these days in the NFL. I think the consensus would say there projects to be some changes this off season. Be it with or without BB this franchise will look to get back into becoming a contender.. one way or another

Not aware of any rule that would prevent an in season coach trade. Don't think it's been done though.

Ok.. I know it's very rare. But I'd believe if it did happen it would be in the offseason. Everything we need to do going forward is tied to having the right QB.

Looked it up. There have been 7 coach trades and the Pats were involved with 2 of them. All were done during their team's offseason and at least some of them right after their team's season ended.

Arians who won a COTY with the Cardinals only got them a 6th round pick and they also had to cough up a 7th? Woof.

It IS Florio, so who knows, but such a trade would be fine by me. I think Bill the GM absolutely must be let go, and I'd have to say, with genuine sadness, that it appears Bill the HC is on the skids as well. Such a move would be wise from both a financial and a football perspective. But I think we are about a half-million miles away from being in a position to have any idea whether it might happen.

There’s a whole bunch of people who said my Belichick Trade Value thread was the dumbest topic they’d ever seen on this forum and I don’t want to see them here talking about this at all lol.
You feel validated by... Florio?

Great stuff! Very interesting information. So what you guess BB would fo for?

LOL. Any port in a storm. Sort of like setting your points with a matchbook cover back in the day. Those covers were reputed to be exactly 0.015", the perfect generic points gap.

Well, it's sorta like that.

In my book, BB is untouchable. Patriots fans are spoiled by 2 decades of excellent teams and now that the Patriots are halfway through a down year, everyone wants to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Trading or firing BB is crazy talk. Another Hall of Fame coach is not walking through that door.

That being said, I don't have an easy answer for BB's atrocious GM moves the last few years. I doubt that Bill would continue to coach here if you took away his GM duties. This year's draft was excellent, but the team got cheap and whiffed on DHop.

More than anything.. the season spiraled out of control early. The injuries made it worse. We were already a roster that had literally no margin for errors. The injuries happened to be to the best players. That is tough for any team to overcome let alone us. We all can whole heartily agree BB as a coach 1st ballot undeniable HOF. He's dedicated he life to this sport. I believe the roster decisions and indecision have been so egregious that it's hard for some to look past. Me personally I didn't think we'd be in this position at all. I thought we'd be at the 2021 level or something comparable. We are in NFL mediocrity.

I thought that the backstory behind sticking it to the Washington Redskins in the 2007 mega-blowout was that BB, from his time with the Giants, hated about everything there is to do with that franchise. Granted, they have new ownership now, but if the resentment was THAT deep then it likely hasn't evaporated.
