Maroney gets diapers at his locker [merged]

Re: Diapers

said the man with 4 TDs in 1 half lol

deep inside i know Laurence is dissapointed with his opportunities. He can say all he wants about winning but when he missed time earlier in season and comes back and we dont run him much..its tough for any player. Hes a competitor and he wants the ball just as much as Randy, Welker, Watson, Stallworth, Brady, etc

Every player wants the ball. Im sure Laurence will have a huge game down the road but the RBs role in this offense isnt huge

in college..he would get up to 40 carries at times..now..he gets 15ish

Well the Pats were not shy about running the ball, and Evans and Eckel certainly got a lot of work. I think it's significant that less talented guys like Evans and Eckel were just hitting the hole quickly and getting what was there. Sammy Morris pretty much did the same thing while he was healthy and got excellent production. Maroney still wants to dance too much.

Notwithstanding whether there is anything to "diapersgate", I think the Pats clearly were sending a message to Maroney, "Do it our way and you'll get your carries, do it your way and you can watch from the sidelines."

Hopefully, as was the case with Larry Johnson in KC, Maroney will get pissed and get with the program. He's extremely talented, but apparently hard-headed. That's certainly not a rare trait among athletes who are used to dominating lesser competition, but he needs to understand that the Pats' coaching staff knows what they are doing and trust them and try it their way.

There is a reason the Colts supposedly wanted to take Maroney over Addai, just as there is a reason that the arguably lesser talented Addai is a better pro so far than Maroney. It takes more than just physical talent.

Still, I am optimistic, and expect "the lights will go on" and believe that Maroney will show us just what we were expecting to get when we drafted him.

Re: diapers

Saw those in preseason and they were very effective. Why not use them in the regular season? I honestly believe the Pats are holding back some stuff for the playoffs. This may sound crazy...but the only team that really challenged the Pats this year is the Colts, and those stretch plays and sweeps wouldn't work very well against them (ends push upfield, fast chasing LBs). You are correct that Maroney is a instinctive, quick, decisive runner in space. Yet the Pats choose not to run any plays that get him in space?

How about another one. Maroney in 2006 = 22 catches. Maroney so far in 2007 = 2 catches (and both of those were in the same game). Think we will see a bunch of screens and swing passes to Maroney in the playoffs? I do.

Give me another explanation that makes sense. Maroney's skills deteriorating in his 2nd year? Maroney in the doghouse for some reason but continuing to get on the field when the game is still in doubt (also known as the 1st quarter)? If we have learned anything about Belichick, it is that he isn't stupid and he doesn't take a dump without a plan.

This is exactly what I have been thinking (or hoping) will happen.

Because of the downfield threat from anywhere on the field, a cornucopia of formations/plays are available, incl. run/pass options from the same alignment.

Just as long as an empty backfield on 3rd down and 3 yards or less is NOT included. Always keep the defense guessing.

Re: Diapers

No it is not possible for that to be related to this story because all the idiots in this thread who want to condemn the guy say it cannot be true. That video would explain too much, be too funny, and make too much sense. It has to be something negative and rude so he will listen to the gods on this board who know more than BB.

That's a riot, although I'm a defender of Maroney, I still understood where posters were coming from. Where did he go in the 2nd half, could it be that Belichick didn't want to risk injury, maybe. But I'm sure the post of the video link deflated some people, their redemption lost in one simple post. I thought that was funny, the video and the diapers gag are great, I wonder if they actually found cabbage patch ones.

Re: Diapers

Why is everyone surprised about Maroney not "hitting the hole hard"?

Maroney has NEVER, even in college, "hit the hole hard".

He is a finesse playmaking backup running back who you want to throw to or otherwise get into open field.

It was always stupid to think that Maroney could be a power running back. He's not. He never was. He never will be.

Re: diapers

I agree that the running play designs and their timing seem to be problematical at times. When Maroney is hit in the backfield, something not intended by the OC has happened on that play. Combine this with a new OL blocking scheme and the possible reluctance of Maroney to run the play as designed and it's not surprising that this facet of the offense is not performing as intended. I say again, there's still time to address this.

Ironic how we're obsessing about a record seting offense but that's exactly what BB is doing.
Is it me or does it seem like it takes 1-2 seconds after the ball is snapped for Maroney too get the ball, and by that time its really obvious that its a running play. It also seems in the running plays they have for him a good deal of the time Brady runs over to Maroney to hand him the ball a good 4-5 yd's behind the line of scrimage. By that time half of the other team is waiting for him, where as the other backs get more quick hitters right at the LOS. I'm not trying to defend LaMa,but I think they have a set of plays designed for him that make it obvious that he's going to get the ball. If I can notice it I'm sure the other team can as well.

P.S. I know I could have made the above more to the point. But I'm not the greatest writer in the first place, and its especially difficult with a nasty hang-over.

Maroney and diapers

I swear I heard this weird tidbit this morning on D and C. They were replaying part of an interview the Pete Sheppard and BB. Bill called in after the game and Pete asked him about Maroney finding diapers in his locker in the middle of last week. Now I might have been dreaming, but I was wondering did anyone else hear this? Anyone know what it was about?

Andy

If it was a weird dream I apologize and will stop eating spicy food during the game.

I heard this before too and I could swear it was like last week. So either this has happened twice or its the same story.

Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

Seriously, this is getting bad. The Past two weeks Maroney has been MIA. What is the deal here, injury or doghouse?
Has Reiss made a comment about this yet?

Game plan, but don't let that stop you from making yet another idiotic thread.

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

Keeping him fresh for the playoffs.

I think he may have a breakout game on Monday. ;)

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

I don't know how many times you need to hear it, but let's try it again:

The plan the last two games was to throw the ball. Faulk is a better receiver and pass blocker than Maroney. Therefore, Maroney won't play much when that is the gameplan. Expect to see Maroney when a more balanced attack is desired.

Two weeks in a row? So was it also part of the Buffalo gameplan to totally ignore Maroney? Why then did Eckel and Evans get such extensive time OVER him?
I can buy gameplan vs Philly, but not vs Buffalo. The Pats ran the ball a lot against the Bills.

Something fishy is going on here.
1 game can be shrugged off, but 2 makes a pattern.

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

Repeat after me: He is a JAG. He is not a special player, thus the reason why BB doesn't use him. I agree with BB. I'd rather see Kevin Faulk in the game than Maroney. Maroney is a JAG.

If you belive that, I can also sell you some stock in a Chad Jackson 200 yard breakout performance. :)

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

Maroney may be MIA but repeat threads about him sure aren't.

Maroney is fine. He's scored a TD in each of the last two games from inside the 5 which is encouraging as we aren't a great running team inside the 5. He's used as needed, like all players, but it's got to be difficult to hand the ball off to him, Faulk or Morris (before he got hurt) when the passing game is so prolific. He sat the second half of the Buffalo game but got most of the few carries in the Philly game. But the bottom line remains - it's difficult to incorporate a 30 carry running game when that takes away 30 passes from Brady.

That's actually the first reasonable theory I've heard. BB reluctant to take passes away from Brady... BUT if that's true, how come the Pats were able to run the ball so much with Eckel and Evans vs Bills. And Maroney was MIA?

Still seems like Maroney might be hurt or in the doghouse to me.

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

What's the ****** big deal if he's getting his carries or not. Are we losing these games?

Re: Milk Carton: Have you seen Maroney?

Just my 2 cents here but;

Against Buffalo he still had some happy feet in the hole and we got up so big why risk some injury to let him work it out.

Phily game I believe it's more of a Game Plan thing then him in the Doghouse. I'm encouraged because they gave him some goal line carries the last two games as opposed to earlier in the season with Morris getting virtually everyone because he hits the holes full speed ahead which is key in the goal line. But I think he's going to be fine and our run game is better than the media pundits are giving us credit for. We'll see but don't expect much from him on Monday because of the match-ups and Faulk will command an extra LB or Safety to help on his pass catch threat and to be honest when Tom is in the Shotgun Faulk is just alot better at blocking then Laurence is right now. So Faulk will get alot of action especially against high blitzing teams.
