So this is the first I've heard of this theory

Well, I threw this theory out way back when. Assuming BB is too smart to get caught at something like this, why would he do it? To put a spotlight on the practice. My theory was/is that Indy used this to undo the Pats in the second half of the AFCCG. Kraft probably complained quietly and was told to go polish his Lombardis.

So, the Pats have a game in Indy this year that may determine HFA for the playoffs -- and may even determine the next SB Champ. BB puts a spotlight on the practice and we lose a #32 pick and cash for a championship.

Since I first proposed this conspiracy theory, others have identified Colts employees as masters of this technique. To me this sounds more plausible than Bill is Stupid or Bill is Arrogant. Bill is Bill and he does nothing that does not contribute to a win.

We'll see Sunday. I wonder if the Dome will be quieter Sunday. It is also rumored that the Colts feed crowd noise into the sound system.

In Bill We Trust

The only problem is that we are playing in Indy. It is a lot easier to film signals of the opposing team in your home stadium. There are many places to hide a camera. With enough zoom, distanct would not be a factor.

Think back to when this was happening.

The Pats didn't apologize to ANYONE other than themselves, BB just copped to breaking a rule through misinterpretation, Bob Kraft did his thing, they didn't ***** about the fine and they didn't whine or point the finger at anyone.

The whole thing was so slick that it defies belief.

I don't care how much of a genius Belichick is, he and the organization would not have been nearly that self-composed if the thing concerned a genuine goof of monumental proportions.

These guys had the whole thing covered from the start.

I thought you were just joking. You really think this whole thing was a set up? Just so Belichick could get other teams to stop taping signals? So he put his reputation in jeopardy and the idea that the SBs are tainted just so lesser teams would stop using camcorders? That's a bit of a stretch.

Belichick didn't apologize to anyone because that's Belichick. He still, I'm sure, doesn't believe he did a thing wrong.

You are ******ed. Your friend/source at Gillette is ******ed. And anyone on this thread who even MILDLY agrees with ANY of this being a possibility is completely and in every way conceivable, now and forever, is TOTALLY ******ed. Shut up.

We'll know only when BB writes his books, after he's done coaching. It would be hilarious if this was his intention.

Not true...I guess u do not pay attention...but that is OK...and because they did not whine what did that REALLy mean...I think it was all done in Dallas...the grassy knoll....the copy guy got it WRONG!!

I think it's a BIG stretch to go that far...a bit more proof is needed to even give this theory any water....actually apologies were to the fans as well...

Dude...you're free to think what you like of course...but I don't think there's any way your scenario is correct. You're making something really simple-Belichick broke the rules and got caught-into something unbelievably complicated just to make a version where Belichick didn't screw up. He did, he paid for it, let's just move on.

+1 Wow, I thought I had read everything on the internet by now but this is
light years beyond insanity.

There are a thousand crazy theories out there.

Because of you, there are now 1,001. Congratulations.

This gossip is bull, for a number of reasons.

Gillette has high technology that allows them to do it anyway? One, you don't need high tech. Low tech would do it. A pair of binoculars with DV recording capability would do it. But if someone squeals on you, you're screwed.

Two, stealing signals doesn't help the poor coaches. It only helps the good coaches. It allows you to tell your QB what might be coming. Only a team that can recognize defensive changes and adjust to them instantly and precisely can take advantage of stolen signals. That's the definition of a well-coached team.

Three, the poor kid that got caught literally was shaking and he pissed his pants because he was told never to give up the goods.

I'd just like to further point out that everyone on this thread who even sorta-kinda agrees with this prepoterously asinine theory is a newbie.

STOP WRECKING OUR BOARD WITH YOUR BULLSH!T.
LMAO 6000 posts doesn't mean you are publishing poetry...
OHMYGOD! I can't take it anymore! If I have to listen to one more national media idiot say the Pat's can't run the ball I am going to shoot someone! Are they not 8th in the league in rushing? Have they not gone over 100 yards in every game but one? I just heard Eric ****erson say, "They don't run the ball cause they can't run the ball."
OMFG!
If it was just him, I wouldn't care but everyone is saying this? Just like I heard that the Pat's receivers haven't been hit yet, so the Colts will be a test for them..... WHAT?!?!?!
It's like I'm pouring salt in a cut watching this stuff but I can't stop!!
AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Right, so someone as smart as BB could have collected his data undetected.

Manning is 'like a coach on the field'

What's your point? Are you saying the intern would have been part of the planning?

I think BB knew that Miami would video tape the Patriots (with full Audio) again like they did last year, since the Dolphins were never punished and this loss (Pats scored zero points, Dolphins bragged about having video and audio of Brady after the game) caused Pats to be seeded lower than the Colts. Moreso than the embarassing aspect of being shut out by Miami, I believe the AFC Championship game would have been at home had the Dolphins not cheated and paid a shill to videotape Brady with full audio either at the Previous Miami game or at one of the away games of the Patriots' right before the second Fins game. Of course BB did this to spite the NFL.

ALSO: I don't see us or the media talking about this, but surely the Patriots must have brought this up to the NFL and got no response. Just because the Pats don't comment or whine to the media on such issues, does NOT mean they don't bring up things like this to the coaching committees and get blown off.

When I read the first post my thoughts were..... sheeeeeeesh moron (or something like that). But then I remembered the one thing that I could never quite understand, the camera right behind the Patriots bench. For all of BB's brilliance, he got caught with something so out in the open, such disregard for secrecy. Unless someone has a logical explanation for an obvious infraction of the rules, I'm withholding judgement. Maybe things didn't go as planned (#1 pick and $$), but maybe there was more to the story.

Assuming BB wanted to rid the league of signal interception, why didn't he just call up Bob Costas and tell him to set aside 20 minutes on Inside the NFL? or just anonymously upload the evidence to Youtube? Or just call Goodell and threaten to do either of those things if something isn't done? This way he keeps his 1/2 mil and #1.

If there is ANY truth to this one, BB is pure genius/mad:

This is coming from someone who worked Gillette stadium security and has ties:

Some are throwing out the possibility that the whole spygate thing was actually intentionally done by BB. Reason being is that BB was aware that there were a number of teams doing it and that by getting caught and exposing this trick of the trade, he knew it would affect other teams much more than it would him - he felt it's a much bigger advantage to more poorly coached teams. Hence, some of the reason that you are seeing a lot of teams play really ugly football/suck this year is a product of the exposure this has gotten and the elimination of filming of this stuff. He said that the Pats have such elevated technology at Gillette, that they can still go ahead and do this at home without anyone ever finding out.

Was also told that he was much closer to losing his job because of the fiasco that you would be lead to believe. Apparently Kraft was completely blindsided by it, embarassed and didn't see it coming at all.

Take it as a grain of salt. Probably all gossip, but mildly interesting.

So he gets caught on purpose because he knows that then other teams will have to stop, and it will affect them more, because he doesn't need it.

But Gillette has elevated technology that allows them to continue filming.

Hmmm, which is it, is he so smart that he doesn't need the filming like other "dumb" coaches, or is it that he can continue to tape because of superior technology.

I think we all need to let it go. Some people around here just need to get laid, seriously.

The Pats would not do that. Too much class (I think this is the first time the 'c' word has been used in this thread). They would go to the commish and quietly make their case.

Idiocy.

Indy "tapes" the signals in their dome! Brilliant! That's how they won the game!! How does that work????

But wait, taping is the first step. Then you have to correlate the signal and the defense called...ie you have to DECODE the tape. This takes time. If it were that easy you wouldn't need a tape at all, just a couple observers taking notes. Be a lot easier and quicker.

So no, taping in the second half in indy last year didn't win them the game. And teams change their signals all the time, every quarter. So good luck.

Your theory is nonsense.

BB most likely did exactly as he said. HE thought it was technically legal or at least a "grey area". He had done it before (Green Bay) been told to stop and that's it. No muss no fuss.

Yeah, he's going to "go to war" with a guy who could ban him for life. Idiots. HE's going to risk having his SB wins considered tainted to "prove a point". What point again? That he has the right to tape signals? He didn't "prove that point". Everyone thinks he's the only one who did it. And he doesn't have the "right". Far from it. That's why he got fined, docked a draft pick, disgraced, etc. Jesus you people. IT's exactly the opposite of what you say. He "proved a point!". Brilliant.

Damn you people are stupid. What do you do for your day jobs?
