Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

It's over. RG wouldn't touch this again with a ten foot pole unless he was
forced to and that ain't gonna happen. Not now, not ever. Follow the money.
The NFL needs to pay attention to the "unadulterated pureness" of its product
and not focus on the negative. Unless something is shoved up his arse like this
was, it's over, and over big time. You are beating a dead horse.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I don't understand all of these "move on to the Bengals" posts.

Are people just mirroring Belichick's rhetoric? If so, they should realize that it's actually only imperative for the people actually responsible for winning the game against the Bengals next week to keep focus on the next game. You know, people like the coaches and players.

We fans can focus on whatever we want, and if some choose to dwell on the mass character assassination/misinformation campaign of the last few weeks, there's really no reason not to.

As for fans who truly have moved on to the Bengals... well, they shouldn't really be posting in this thread, should they?

Well said. I also kind of resent the fact that Kraft seems so anxious that we "move on" from this - of course he wants us to "move on" because he doesn't want people in New England souring on the product. Unfortunately I am souring on the product, not because I think Belichick cheated nor do I think the Patriots' record is "tainted" but because I think Goodell went way overboard on this and made a mountain out of a molehill, all because the media in New York went ballistic about it.

If this had happened in Detroit or Greenbay we might never have heard about it. The irony of course is that it happened in New York BECAUSE Mangini used to work for the Patriots and wanted to tweak his old boss.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I am a Jets fan and believe the reason that the Pats lost a first round pick was the number of times this has come up against them along with other allegations (communications) and most of all, the sheer arrogance of having a guy on the visitors sideline next to their coaches!!!

From what I heard (sorry, I forget where, but probably on the radio) the cameraman was issued the wrong color jersey (he was given the jersey for a still camera not a video) and this is what lead him to be questioned by stadium personnel and (again, forget where I heard this) FBI agents at the game. My belief is that this was all a setup by the Jets (starting with giving him the wrong color jersey).

The FBI part comes from the Jets security director being an ex-FBI employee.

i believe it

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

Although I've been very vocal about placing full blame on Belichick for this debacle, Mangini is a pig!
Scum-sucking pig!!!!!
One good thing is that Mangini can't possibly ever enjoy the rings he was given from the Patriots because he can NEVER come back to this football town.

I have to say...pretty darned good post. Hard to argue against your points.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

No big deal. It was no big deal for us to do it, nor is it a big deal that they did it. Whole story was ridiculously blown out of proportion.

BINGO we got bingo!!!!!

Re: Tim Fox: Jets had cameraman removed vs. Pats last year

Yeah, it's going back a few years, but Tim Fox could play. As I recall, he was a heady safety who was somewhat physical and could cover when need be. He also played next to Michael Haynes, who is the best shut down CB this franchise has ever seen and who's also in the Hall of Fame.

Despite all his experience, Fox however, isn't the greatest commentator. If what he reported is indeed true, it'd be interesting to see how this all plays out.

obviously the "kid" wasn't a fan then....ease up ;)

I assume that lots of teams were doing this sort of stuff last year.

Hence, the memo. You don't write a memo to all clubs unless you think you need to.

I also think this is why Goodell wasn't particularly concerned with the Patriots' alleged past transgressions, and merely burned the tapes once Belichick conceded (in trying to defend his taping this year) his interpretation.

But we got caught after the memo -- in the first game after the memo, in fact. This seems significant to me. I'm not saying it's not a story if the Jets (or anyone else) was doing this crap last year.

But I think people need to throtle back the talk about how this is a Patriots witch hunt and they are being singled out. Goodell sent out a memo, and the patriots got caught in flagrante delicto in the first game thereafter. I imagine the commish would have busted any team that got caught in the same circumstance.

Yep, it was extremely foolish of BB & Co. Absolutely no excuse for it, they should have seen it coming and they hurt the team. But how do you square the idea that lots of clubs were doing this in 2006 with the unprecedented punishment of A FRIGGIN' 1ST-ROUND DRAFT PICK???

Umm, sorry, got a little carried away there. Anyway.

At the very least the ongoing revelations of how commonplace this sort of thing is should tamp down all of the "asterisk" histrionics.

Get your facts straight. The memo was sent out Sept. 06, 2006. So there goes that theory.

edit: Or an *I* wrong about the date? I'm pretty sure it was 2006...

By the way - I've been thinking and thinking about WHY BB would be so blatant about this and what strategic benefit taking video of the opposing DC offers. As many have pointed out its not for future games, otherwise he wouldn't bother with it in something like the Packers game. Beyond that I still doubt that signals can be interpreted, analyzed and passed along to the QB within a span of 15 seconds.

The only theory I have come up with is that BB actually WANTS opposing coaching staffs to see him doing it to foster their own indecision about plays and disguising signals.

In other words, BB gains a competitive advantage through the shere PSYCHOLOGICAL impact of being seen engaging in this activitiy - whether there's an actual advantage or not.

I'm not sure if others have floated this throey but its the only thing that makes sense to me

It's been reported virtually everywhere that the memo was sent out this offseason. I don't know the date.

That's only because people can't read dates. The NFL's own website shows that the memo was sent out in 2006.

This crap about the league "being out to get the Pats" is beyond delusional.

The Pats got caught breaking a rule that was emphasized this offseason in the FIRST game of the season. The NFL made an example of them, as is their right. It sucks, get over it.

We we're the only ones to get caught so we get crapped on, that's life.

The Jets and Dolphins didn't get caught doing anything, they're not going to be fined. Period.

Is that official?

Schefter said they were warned this offseason.

Re: Tim Fox: Jets had cameraman removed vs. Pats last year

It's starting to get real obvious that the NFL wants to get rid of BB and the Patriots. They are going after us and ignoring the rest of the football.

Now you know how we bengals fans feel about Steeler loving GODdell and his inconsistent doling out of punishment to our players!

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I'm not done with it.

not until Miami is either penalized a first round pick, or the NFL comes out and says that it's ok to PURCHASE tapes but "cheating" if you RECORD THEM YOURSELF

I'm not done with it until the Jets lose a first round pick for doing the exact same thing that the pats did.

Then you had better go find the game tape the Jets made which is going to be impossible to obtain for anybody. If Goodell takes a 1st from the Jets without the actual tape as evidence, then he will have to take 2 more 1sts from the Pats for GB and DET. Wouldn't that be great?

We don't need any retribution or revenge of this nature. We're not WHINERS! They are! The only satisfaction that you should want is seeing the look on Goodell's face when he passes the Lombardi to the Pats next year. I'm living for that moment. Oh, and I want 16-0 to screw Miami and I want Brady to have 50 TDs to screw with Manning. That retribution will be the best. Let's have none of this, "Mr Goodell, Mr Goodell, look what we found. Whaaaa, you're not listening. Whaaaaaaaaaaa..."
