Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I'm not done with it.

not until Miami is either penalized a first round pick, or the NFL comes out and says that it's ok to PURCHASE tapes but "cheating" if you RECORD THEM YOURSELF

I'm not done with it until the Jets lose a first round pick for doing the exact same thing that the pats did.

Next question.

I hear ya Keegs. I was just trying to find out if this was true, but I get it that folks are sick of it. I get that. Eighty-Oh, Five-Oh!

I'm not "sick of it", and I don't think any Pats fan should be "sick of it". To lose a first-round draft pick over this is ridiculous. I think the only reason Kraft didn't make a bigger stink is that he's a smart businessman and wanted the New England fan base to get over it.

I realized listening to yesterday's game that I didn't care if the Patriots go 19-0 because I'm so angry about this.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I'd be interested to hear more of the details on that story. I think facts coming out about OTHER TEAMS doing this would go a long way in setting this "scandal" in its proper perspective. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

I agree completely, though it's probably unlikely without a surely destroyed or hidden tape. If more comes out it will probably be a player talking about a former team.

I doubt other teams did this, but it's kind of beside the point. It's a silly and arbritrary rule. A team could have any number of personnel (I guess) taking polaroid photographs of the opposing bench, but not videotaping it. To lose a first-round draft pick over this is ridiculous. Yes it was a violation of the rules, but the penalty makes it seem much more serious a violation than it was.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

No big deal. It was no big deal for us to do it, nor is it a big deal that they did it. Whole story was ridiculously blown out of proportion.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

We are moving on to the Bengals.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I think this may be the take-home message of the whole affair. The huge penalty and the commissioner calling the situation "unprecedented" made it seem like some massive spy ring, completely out of line with the rest of the league's behavior. If they had taken away, say, a 3rd and a 5th for "violations of camera placement rules," the talking heads would have taken their cue from that.

Me too. I love the draft. I will never get over losing a first round pick. The free agent pick ups/trades were fantastic, but this past year's draft (due to the piss poor draft class) really sucked. I was really looking forward to 2008. How fantastic would it have been for the Pats to go into this draft with two 1s and two 3s.

I kind of agree.

On the one hand, I definitely want to move on. But is it really fair to move on when the Pats have been dragged through the mud unfairly?

We should push to get somebody to write an article on the Jets and Dolphins cheating. Does it lessen what the Pats did? No, not really. But it's only fair that other teams be treated the same way, both by the media, and by the NFL.

I am a Jets fan and believe the reason that the Pats lost a first round pick was the number of times this has come up against them along with other allegations (communications) and most of all, the sheer arrogance of having a guy on the visitors sideline next to their coaches!!! I am not in the opinion that it changed the outcomes of any games against the Jets, but it could against better teams. And the media who said it could not help in game are offbase. They get a polaroid of the D setup on every play. You see the QB and O-line looking at them all the time. At halftime you match up the signals from the D coach against the D formation and bingo there you have it for the second half.

By the way. You guys are scary good this year and all this BS wont matter.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

Argh. Getchyer facts straight. He was on the Pats sideline.

As fa as I can tell there's no rule against arrogance. There's also no rule against having two first round draft picks. Fact is, the penalty came down a lot harder on the Pats because they are the Pats than it would have come down on any other organization in football. And that is fundamentally unfair.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

I'm not sick of it. As much as I want to move on, I think it's ridiculous that we lost a 1st round pick for something that other teams are doing too. Just mind boggling really.

Re: Jets Videotaped Pats in 2006

Count me as among those who interested because I am not happy about being called an ardent fan of "cheaters" and "tainted SB champions" whose "records should have a * ".

Appreciate the feed-back, and fellow Pats fans are going to slam me for taking the bait, but..............

It almost certainly was not done for in game purposes. First, although I imagine you will not take our coaches word for it, he stated in his official statement, that it "never' was done for the game itself. Let's say you don't believe him. Well, there is a 15 minute halftime. I heard a former player on Sirius saying there's about 12 mintues left when the players and coaches get in there. They all hit the bathrooms to empty the bladders.....etc. To think the coaches, and video guys or whomever go through coaches signals and have time to......................seems highly unlikely.

Let me throw this at ya. Why would somebody like Brady need somebody to say 'hey it's a cover two'. He looks at the coverage and can tell that.

Jimmy Johnson said that he stole signals too, and after a while figured out what you got out of it wasn't worth it. I suspect the Pats would have figured that out too, but sadly for us, it cost us a #1 pick.

Funny how without this top secret, in game, signal stealing info, the Pats have put 38 points a game on each of the 3 teams they've played. This was much ado about nothing, but Eric The Rat cost the Pats dearly.......short term.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE. Well put. This is the argument that has been completely absent on the national, or local, scene. It is completely legitimate and totally ignored. The media is truly terrible at their job.
