Since The NFL Started Caring About PSI, Aaron Rodgers’ Numbers Have Plummeted, Brady’s Skyrocketed

It bears repeating that the balls were not deflated... but if they had been, I'm really glad the NFL fixed the issue for Brady. Very thoughtful of them, and his performance shows it.

Exactly. Being that one or two of the balls (or whatever it was) was 0.02 PSI or whatever low, makes the whole thing ridiculous to begin with. I really doubt they are checking the PSI that diligently especially considering the whole thing wasn't about deflated balls to begin with. Not to mention, I'm still waiting on the Panthers and Vikings to get fined for messing with the footballs.

Maybe it's the rift between him and his family that's causing problems for him.

People tried to blame Gisele for any down game Brady had. Perhaps they should blame Olivia Munn?

Though, I did have thoughts about how a PSI change might affect, "my big hands, I like my footballs at 16 psi", guy.

I don't believe for a second that air inflation has anything to do with anything. I believe that Rodgers relies on athleticism and superior wide receveirs. Now that Rodgers is a couple years past 30 and his receivers are a past their primes and can't get as much separation, he's beginning to slip. I think Brady has never relied on his athleticism and his effort to stay flexible and limber is paying off as his main skill is his brain. As a result of these factors, Rodgers is slipping while Brady is as good or better than ever.

Rodgers numbers have been declining since 2011.
2011 was his best year, but it is inaccurate to say they've been declining since then. He held very steady in 2012, 13 and 14. None of those years were as good as 2011, but they did not represent a steady decline.

Hit the one in the middle

Since Roger has clearly sole his soul to the devil, perhaps Lucifer is using his dark powers to keep all balls at 12.5 no matter what the conditions. The things that this commissioner will do for integrity.

Suggesting air pressure has a huge effect on a QB's performance is probably a myth nobody here wants to prolong.

QB rating:
2011: 122.5

So, lower comp%, lower TD%, higher INT% and lower overall QB rating, declining fairly steadily since 2011, with 2014 being an outlier season.

I don't think steady declines have outliers, do they?

Brady's issue was the 16 PSI balls the refs gave him against the Jets. The NFL may have been trying to help the jets by sabotaging him before

I don't buy this, for QB rating, 2011 is the outlier other than that 2012-2014 are incredibly close before a huge dropoff last year. Completion% they're very close the whole way before a big dropoff.

I don't think it's the PSI, but it is coincidental and thankfully the coincidence doesn't point the finger at Brady like it could have if he'd had an age related dropoff.

Think he's declined physically, mentally, or both?

I think it's a combination of things:

His throws aren't quite as accurate, he seems more skittish in the pocket, he's sometimes holding the ball too long when he's got open receivers, and his receivers aren't quite the group they had been.

2011 receiving crew:
  • Jennings - only played about 1/2 of 2012, and then moved on to Minnesota
  • Driver - his decline, already steep by 2011, was complete in 2012
  • Finley - his only 2 elite seasons were 2011 and 2012 (2013 neck injury essentially ended his career)
  • Nelson - had 63 catches in that 2011 season, with all the help around him, as he ascended towards top dog status
  • James Jones - 16.7 ypc
  • Randall Cobb - easing in as a rookie

Nice road record vs winning teams, aaron. His physical talent is unreal. Probably the only guy who could have made that throw in that divisional game last year. Rodgers is really good, but he's no Brady or Manning.

I don't think steady declines have outliers, do they?
No, they don't. If you look at Rodgers' performance since 2011, it hasn't been a steady decline. It was a step down for 3 years of consistent performance, then another step down. He has only decline steadily since 2014.
