McDaniels: "Wouldn't surprise me if BB coached into his 70's"

I never even considered him retiring before 70. He's 64 now, so I'd bet he has 8-11 more years in him? 6-7 for sure.

6-7 years would put him on the verge of passing Shula on the all time win list.

Would he stay to accomplish that?

That was in 2009 though, stuff changes a lot over time.
Regardless, it's a hard job. I could see him wanting to relax at some point and enjoy his millions while he still can.

Hes 102 regular season wins behind him.

Marv Levy stopped at 72.

Maybe. I can also see him going for a long time also. Some people just aren't wired to stop.

My dad is like that. Hes 71 and has the mental energy of a 30 year old.

I don't know what else he's going to do. Lives, breathes, and eats the game.

Yep. His dad was a full time coach/scout for 40+ years and cut back to part time after turning 70.

Clearly running football ops and coaching 100 hrs a week for a billion-dollar, high profile NFL franchise that is expected to compete for a Super Bowl every year is a tad more demanding.

Looks like the press conferences are the most grueling for them. Scar sounded like he really didn't want to be roped back in but eventually was like "**** it."

Given BB's win average over the last 15 years (11.5) he would need 8.9 years to pass Shula.

So 72-73 would put him right there.

Throw in a perfect season (I know ... wishful thinking) and I would love to hear Shula's interview.

"Don.. now that BB has surpassed you in every possible category....... How do you feel?"

"Don... have you eaten at BB's steak house yet?"

If he coached another 9 years he would most certainly put his #1 ranking in all-time playoffs wins out of reach for a 1000 years.

Let's just hope that Goodell doesn't plan to Omiss into his 70s.

You're the dude that shows up to Christmas parties with a fruit cake. Aren't you? :D

For people like Belichick, retiring isn't usually an option. They don't have an "off switch" that lets them suddenly relax and do nothing. It is just too massive of a change in lifestyle. I wonder if something like this didn't happen to Scar.

Even if BB retired at 75 Josh (40) would still be a young-ish Head Coach if he waited to take BB's place.

I wouldn't mind seeing a transition in which BB stayed on as GM and handed over the HC responsibilities to JD.

I want Patricia to take over as HC.

Mcdaniels from article: I look forward to coaching for him for as long as he'll let me

I want Patricia to take over as HC.
Why? Just curious. Is it demeanor?

Love Josh but there is just something about Blackbeard. Not sure if it's his off-the-charts intelligence or the way he is with the players or what.

With that said not sure if he has that shrewdness in him that BB does. Only one way to find out but I think hes smart enough to understand that he needs to be that way.
